I got so done with AC when I heard that they killed off the main antagonist that transcends the entire timeline in a comic

not necessarily outdated. lack of new content maybe

or new ideas

their last big thing were the new transformations

Looking at Wonder and I can't really see anything about it being outdated

If anything because it's such a flagship title they are allowed to experiment more

It's not easy for 2d platformers to do

Doesn't just go for 2d platformers. Odyssey is the same for 3d platformers.

yeah saying this mere days before the next title that's obviously shown itself to be experimenting out the wahoo this time is ironic

like i haven't played 2d Mario since the DS game but even i was blown away by the reveal trailer

I think it's 50/50, I think it's easy for Mario to seem like it's experimenting when he only puts out 2-4 real actual titles a console generations. Everything else is just party games. I think for "mainline" Mario games that's true, the Galaxies and Oddesy for example, but, while I wouldn't call Mario stagnant, I feel like there's never a Mario game thats really stepped outside it's mold either

I find Mario to be a weird example of it when it's one of those franchises that does everything

Tennis, football, racing, party games, Olympic games

And a bunch more that I am definitely forgetting

wonder if they are gonna shadowdrop a direct this month with a q1/q2 2024 release. they did the same thing in 2016 with the og switch

I mean…are they really? The core gameplay is the same as it’s always been. 2D Mario is the safest of safe bets no matter what you do with it.

It practically sells itself

There's only so much they can change without changing the identity of a 2D Mario game. They can't metroidvania it. they can't roguelite it. of course the "core gameplay" is going to be the same, that's its identity. it's everything else they've added on top of the core gameplay that makes it stand out from its predecessors which is exactly what experimentation means

Here’s my idea: new IP. It’s been AGES since Nintendo has done something original.

i definitely don't disagree with you there but that wasn't the topic at hand lmao

Nintendo hire snake NOW

nintendo switch +

:galaxyBrain:

neurons activated

Nintendo Switch X

wait no they'll forget about it if it has an X in the name

rip XCX fans

Nintendo Switch + New Deluxe i

You’re right about experimenting, I overreacted. I’m just frustrated because I’m SOOOO BORED with modern day Nintendo.

Honestly after mentioning it, it would actually be very interesting to see a new 2D spinoff that was Mario in a free roam 2D game like metroid lmao
