as far as I'm aware, its only because they respect his decisions. he actually has no say in what they do with kingdom hearts and its characters, but they respect him enough to ask him too. so they could theoretically go above him for any decision they want

Like yeah they give them guidelines and rules but they've always been very careful not to ruin that partnership lol hence why they bend the knee to them more than any other partner.

KH has always just been in the gray zone of what the firetruck is going to happen with it because there are so many toes to watch out for lol. one minute they could be marketing the hell out of it, the next they pretend it doesn't exist alongside other huge Disney IPs

no, that is correct afaik. they own everything, Square Enix are purely the devs. of course the FF characters/terms belong to them, but otherwise it's all Disney calling the shots if needed. They let SE do what they want, but if anything ever comes up they can step in and call any shots they want.

They should have made that a Square IP first before introducing Verum Rex in Kingdom Hearts.

disney being so cautios is the reason why a lot of their brands nowadays suck

I don't see them taking any risks that had a real pay off

all the live action stuff is boring

and most of their new stuff sucks because the writers lack creativity and limit themselves

there's obviously some great pieces

but they create more bad stuff than good stuff
