Prequels often:

Spoil future plot points

Take the mystery out of plot points that at one point were mysteries

Often times since gameplay is expanded than prior entries people playing the next chronological game run the risk of not liking them

There's often tonal differences that it feels jarring going to the next titles.

Often times there's retcons that mess with things they didn't need to

It ruins how others perceive the story.

i.e.: Crisis Core- that game caused an entire generation to misunderstanding FF7's story because they played CC first, and misunderstand crucial plot points, speCIFICALLY about Cloud.

Many times the games that come later all revolve around synching up around said prequel. Like how every Yakuza game after 0 has constant call backs and references to it- more than any other game. That game also impacted the tone of that franchise going forward, specifically the side content.

tl;dr, don't start with prequels.

And Crisis Core Reunion was a bad remake.
