i really wish square pronounced Marluxias name as Mahr-Luhx-ee-ah in stead of mahr-loo-sha i mean marly is already feminine enough hellow! he has:

I like the way you say it. When I first read the name (way back), I read it like "Mahr-loox--ee-ah," which sounded odd to me...I guess Mahr-loo-sha makes sense, but I don't like it much.

 

I think originally they were going to have Marluxia be a girl, but changed their minds for whatever reason and made him a guy but decided to have him so feminine.

I just call him Marly cuz then I don't have to deal with my friend tell me that I'm pronouncing his name wrong lol

It was more than just "a programmer decided to change it." Think about it; the only two female members in a primarily male Organization trying to take it over? Bad idea.

 

But anyways, that's just how Marluxia is pronounced in Japan. For u's, they use the long u, instead of the short. And yeah, he controls flowers; flowers that are the symbol of death in Japan I might add. He's essentially a grim reaper, which someone has alraedy mentioned.
