og ff7 is mid even for it's time

and it's mostly the gameplay that ruins it

not the story

the minigames and combat system are the equivalent of shit

It's okay, but (I love remake to hell) but fleshing out a world by giving more backstory to characters that have 0 relevance isn't necessarily a strong argument. Fleshing out the main cast more is. But saying hey we know Jessie wants to be a dancer is as inconsequential as if we developed on Seifer in KH2

if FF10 wouldn't exist I would be convinced that CBU1 can't make good turn-based games

What was the last turn based they made?

depends on how people define turn-based

for some people atb isn't turn-based

Didn't they completely overhaul the teams?

FFXIII-2 was imo the last turn-based game and that game was good in terms of combat even though it wasn't CBU1 who made it

technically 7R is turn-based too

and yeah the jessie thing is weird

she doesn't matter at all for the story

unless they somehow revive them in rebirth and make them important for the main plot

honestly most of the stuff in FF7 isn't very important to the main plot

Dyne and Nanaki's backstory don't matter for the overall plot about Cloud, Sephiroth, Nibelheim, Jenova and Tifa

it's the thing I am most worried regarding Rebirth

because new people could see all of this as filler

Those are like little arcs along the way

But they can add like a Cloud needs to build a farm with new characters and it'd be cool

But it doesn't necessarily equate to a better experience...

I just don't see why people feel the need to be what I'd call overly critical of 7

There's things about 7 people criticize that they let slide in 9 or even 8

Someone pointed out that the one guy in the trailer who talked about a dreamworld could be one of the Gi and they could technically use it to connect the entire story with the lifestream and sephiroth 👀
