I mean, this is a prospect that just came to my head... it's just shocking to me that Sora never once questioned why he was asleep for a year. Was there ever a point during which it was explained to Sora what happened in Castle Oblivion and why he was asleep for a year?

 

Otherwise, in acquiring the Secret Ansem Reports (written by Ansem the Wise) in KHII, wouldn't it have become apparent to Sora generally what had happened? Seeing as Ansem mentions Sora's quest through Castle Oblivion and year long sleep to recover his memories in a few of the reports...

EDIT: Also, in KH2 the data from the CO organization members appear when they get full access to Ansem's computer and see his face. In the FM, the data appears when you defeat the member's Absent Silouette.

I think he remembered what happened. Near the end of Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix there is a short cutscene where Sora says to Riku that he never got to thank Namine, so one can assume that he remembered the events of Castle Oblivion at that point in time or shortly before that.

We don't really know we can speculate. But Sora does know why he had to put asleep. Roxas going into him and Namine into Kairi could have caused it.

He still would have told Jiminey for it to be added in the Journal. He even told Jiminey what happened in his dream and everything leading up to meeting Donald and Goofy, so he wouldn't leave out something as important as what happened in CO and why they put Thank Namine. So if Jiminey didn't know what it meant, Sora didn't know what it meant.

I'm kind of making a collective guess with all of this. I personally think that Sora learned it in different stages, all adding up.

a) The info for Organization XIII members from CO was possibly recorded in the computer...? That's the only thing I can think of

b) Someone else said it up there, about Riku telling Sora. Heck, we don't see every single conversation they have on-screen, a conversation about CO is probly just another one that they had

c) Perhaps when Kairi and Namine combined, Kairi got all of Namines memories and stuff like that, and could go on to tell Sora

Nope, it's like Azure said, the only time he questioned why he was sleep was when he woke up from his pod. Other than that, there really wasn't anywhere else where he was wondering why he was in that pod. And I'm pretty sure nobody had told him about what he had done in C.O. seeing as how he never once mentioned anything about it. So, it's all just a big blurr to Sora.

In KHII, Sora, Jiminy, Donald, and Goofy questioned how and why they fell asleep and woke up in Twilight Town. They also questioned how and why Jiminy's Journal was blank save for Namine's message. They even searched for answers throughout the town, but then totally blew it all off after Hayner and the gang told them about King Mickey.

 

If anyone of the guys had remembered anything about the events that transpired in Castle Oblivion before KH Re:coded, I'm pretty sure he would have told the others by now. The four of them are best friends; One of them is NOT gonna keep something as important as what happened in C.O. to himself.

 

I believe it is unlikely that King Mickey and Riku told them about C.O. prior to Re:coded was becuase the events of Chain of Memories didn't really have much of an importance concerning the future at the time and they probably decided to just leave it all alone.

 

Then the events all of a sudden became extremely important in Re:coded. Someone HAD to tell Sora and the others about it because the situation demanded that they be told. This is proven during the ending of Re:coded when it is revealed that the letter King Mickey sent Sora at the end of KHII was informing him of all that he had learned during Re:coded. The letter stated and I quote, "I wanted to tell you right away, About memories from the past that sleep within you, And about the pieces that will tie you to your future." I believe The King was talking about Sora's hidden memories of his time in C.O. and is telling him about them because now they have a lot of importance concerning the future.

 

This all proves that Sora more than likely knows all about his time in C.O.

 

On a side note, this theory is also proven a little bit more in 3D: Dream Drop Distance at The World That Never Was. When Sora gets stuck in the two fold nightmare, it seems he knows who Namine is, even going so far as to stop her from running away from him so he could tell her an important, but unknown, message.

He never found it. He made that promise to Namine and I still believe that one day it will come true. Maybe in KH3.
