To begin with, Kingdom Hearts II took three years for the Japanese version alone which was on the PlayStation 2 and even then it had its flaws.

 

Final Fantasy XIII begun development in 2005 and was announced at E3 2006. The Japanese version was released at the very end of 2009. Despite the fact it was released in NTSC and PAL regions on March 9th 2010. Kingdom Hearts games have a history of taking awhile to be released in NTSC and PAL regions. Try about six months a lot of the time.

 

Final Fantasy Versus XIII was unveiled at E3 2006 and we all know even now a release date is yet to be announced.

At this point, I don't really care if they spend a long time on development. We've already waited this long. If they rush production and it ends up being a crappy game we would have waited for nothing. It's best they spend some extra time to make this game as spectacular as possible to make the wait well worth it.

It's actually a very distant third in terms of a moneymaking series. FF and Dragon Quest make lot more money than KH. Luckily, KH still makes Square Enix enough money that they won't leave us out to dry

 

Anyways, KH2 made use of an entirely new engine and had to be developed from scratch , but KH3 will be made from the Versus XIII engine. So that should speed things along. I hope, anyways.

Actually they said that it won't be out this year. Anywhere. So it's gonna take even longer for all the other games to get developed and released. I'm hoping 2015, so 2016 seems pretty realistic to me. I'll be 27 by then

It's scheduled for December 2011 last I checked. It's not coming out this year in North America though. Though it's scheduled for the first quarter.

but different teams work on different projects and right now the kingdom hearts team is working final fantasy versus 13.

they will release kingdom hearts dream drop distance and kingdom hearts birth by sleep volume 2 to tie us over tell KH3,plus possible KH1,KH:RECOM,KH2 in a collection and in the psp remaster program KHBBS...so yeah a lot of games to tie us over! KH3=2016.

Why give us an already remade game in Re:COM when Square can just give us a Final Mix collection of KH1 FM, KH2 FM, and BBS FM(if they decide to do it)? That sounds like a better deal.

I'm going to add that Nomura has recently said that Versus XIII has just started 'full development' so you can add two more years to that probably.

2. Not entirely true, since nearly everybody is terrified of releasing a new console.

3. If there's one thing KH3 won't be, it's rushed. Nomura has said in previous reviews that he's started conceptualizing for KH3. If your timeline is accurate, that means there will be six years to plan everything else. Also, being developed on a console that has been around for a while would increase the quality of the game if anything, since the team would be very familiar with the workings of the system.

4. Square doesn't fall into this trap In fact, their games tend to have very few glitches. You're thinking of Duke Nukem in this case.

5. They're facing financial troubles, but it's not like they've been doing nothing to fight this. Already they've cut their expected losses significantly this year. They've been reformatting their work ethics to be more efficient, as seen with their much quicker English releases. Besides, KH has always been a franchise Square Enix pours money into, since it works as a sort of testing ground for graphical technology and gameplay. The CGI scene at the end of KH2 final mix, for example, was created as a test that would eventually lead to FFVIII Advent Children. Anyways, I don't see this problem being prominent in the future.

6. That depends on the wait. Pretty much every game since KH2 has existed to create hype for KH3, and people keep crying for KH3. You'll be right if Square waits TOO long, but with the right timing, this wait could maximize their sales, because everybody will be saying 'Finally!' when they see a trailer.

It has already been nearly 6 years since KH2 came out, at this point I am not really fussed when / if KH3 ever comes out.

If there is one thing KH series taught me, it is patience. I will play it and love it, as much as anyone else but does anyone honestly still give a care as to how long it is taking? =D

Square Enix take way too long with developing games, and the quality never justifies all that time in the end.

 

Not to mention the release date for the sequel to How To Train Your Dragon was just announced as June 2014 lol if I can wait that long for a film, I can wait for KH3!
