Idea: Merge the comment and status updates systems

Posted

Currently, as you would have seen, when you post a comment on a page (by this I mean, on a page like http://kh13.com/videos/ for example), your comment becomes a post in a thread dedicated to that page, in the Comments forum. However I have an idea to replace this system with something else:

My new idea is as follows...

When you post a comment, your comment is also posted as a status update. However, it would work like tagging in Twitter... if you were to comment on http://kh13.com/videos/, then the resultant status update would be "@videos my comment blah blah". And of course, on the videos page, all status updates with @videos would be shown.

It's worth pointing out that if I did that, we'd probably have to start again with comments... all existing comments would be deleted.

So what do you think?

I think the @videos is better. Then we won't get confused and we'll know what certain people meant by saying this or that.

No. Just no.

It sounds like a good idea.

I like this idea. Maybe make the status updates a little longer too since the status will get more updates

Seems interesting, but I agree with Oishii about expanding the new status updates then, because they'd become much more frequent.

sounds good but at the same time it doesn't, eh, maybe

Definitely maybe I think

I agree with Rob this is not a good idea.

Eh, I don't really like the idea. When I read peoples statuses, I don't really want to see what they think of "KHII Cutscene [insert number here]*". If I really wanted to know, I would go to the thread about it. Plus, it would make the updates more cluttered, with personal stuff mixed in with "Lol, I loved that part when Sora made that goofy face*." I really don't see a point to it anyway, as the comments are listed under the video, and they all have their own thread (if I understood the first post correctly).

But hey, it's your site, and if the majority want it, go for it.

*Just some examples

I'd probably prefer it the way it is now.

Why don't you make this today's poll of the day?

Thanks, this is a really convincing argument why it's a bad idea.
