With all these new technology systems taking a storm (ie--the Kindle, Nook, Tablets, etc.) how do you feel about kids tossing paper books out the window and hooking their hands on these new gadgets? In all honestly, are people actually READING on these things, or just playing Angry Birds? Do you feel it increases learning? What happened to sitting on something comfy and feeling the paper and the text on the touch of your fingers? I can't do that through a screen. Do you feel a screen and back light form some kind of disconnect from the book, or do you feel there is no change at all?

There is school by me where each student has an I-Pad. They've thrown out all the textbooks, and everything that they will need will be on their I-Pads. How do you feel about this?

Pros?

Cons?

Also, anyone can make a book. Not everyone can make an eReader.

It is not the same as holding the book in your hands, but sometimes you can't find a book or whatever your looking for and you might need to uses a Ipad or the other stuff.

By universal I was referring to how they can be found almost wherever there are people. Considering that tablets are pretty new, you'd have to do a little digging to find them. Let's not forget that in places with library's you can use books for free.

We're close but not close enough to see the massive technology leap that will turn humanity into a space faring race, unless some genius shows up and solves the enigma.

You can get library books from an eReader for free as well...

We don't need to be a space faring race to figure this one out, in recent years, some very real steps have been made towards near perfect 100% efficiency.

Anti Matter power could solve many of life's problems.

Paper books becasue they don't freeze up.

You still have to pay the base fee for the eReader, most of them aren't too expensive and I guess you get what you pay for. I believe it's an acquired taste.

I didn't say we needed to be a space faring race to solve the puzzle, I just mentioned that it would be the result of us solving the puzzle. Probably the biggest limit to space travel is that we simply can't keep things running. Once you leave the solar system, the solar panels are nearly useless.

Are you implying books are indestructible?

Well, at least a book can take a beating. An eReader can't take a freezing.

Spill coffee on your book? Just wait for it to dry. Spill coffee on your eReader? Pay for another one.

Spill coffee on a book, you can't read a section of it ever again.

Spill coffee on an eReader, get a new one thanks to warranty, with all books intact.

i like regular books and e-readers. my mom bought me a kindle last year and im not gonna let it just sit there, so i use it whenever i get a gift card. kindles only need to be charged like once a week. and ya you can buy games but i think thats a waste. but i like real books cuz i loe the smell of them and i love turning pages, and the way they look after a bit. the only bad thing they have in common is that you cant read them in the dark without a light or something >.>

Books I hope will be around forever, I don't read many books, But I prefer my manga on pages rather than online, and gameinformer inpages not online. I can feel each page as I turn it. while with Ereaders and tablets you stare at a screen or a ink screen which I would rather look at paper, and in this day and age a lot of things can be changed by a click of a button. Reading a book you know it will not be edited unless a revision of it or something. Books do last longer than most tablets I know of but do take up some space. My book shelf Is completely filled with books, Manga/How To Draw/Space/Guinnes World Record/comics/ and some chapter books, I would rather have them site on my shelf and read them anytime I want than use a tablet to read them. Call me weird but tablets just give you another reason to be connected to the internet limiting your time for other stuff you could have been doing either way I just hope books stay

What if your warranty is out?

Besides, for example, in the show, Friends, Joey is at a really scary part in this book he is reading, so he hides his book in the freezer until he can gain the courage to read through the rest of the book. As funny as that scene is, you can't put an eReader in a freezer, who knows what would happen to it? It could lead to possible water damage. With a book--you can still read through drink spillages. Done it plenty of times! (Don't get me wrong, I am not the one spilling drinks on my books, but when you read as many books from a public library like I do, you tend to learn how to read through the questionable stains.)

hmmmm...

Also, if you have a book, you can share them with some people, and you can't transfer books to other eReaders. You can write notes in your books that help you with study. Also, the feel of it is just...i don't know how to describe it. Lifely? An eReaders is so cold, lifeless, and made of steel. I mean, have you ever rubbed your fingers between book pages? It feels nice. Last but not least, books have actual covers, while an eReader doesn't. K, that's all

I like books, I take care of them and there aren't any batteries to die on me. (and I can say I actually own all the Harry Potter and Percy Jackson books)

The only book store near me just went out of business soooo not too fond of Kindles and eReaders. Now I have to get all my manga and books online >_> (which bugs me cause I always flipped through the books to see if I really wanted them)

eReaders barely use any power, as they don't produce colour, and have a low refresh rate. And, you realize your problem can be solved by the same thing that's giving you trouble, right? Before buying online, look around the internet for some pages from the book, and see if you like it.

I personally prefer books than eReaders.

Books can last for a very long time. No, they aren't indestructible but they can get pretty damaged and still be able to read them. Unlike eReaders that can get damaged very quickly if the owner isn't careful. Plus, with books you can let someone borrow them though I never do that. Another thing is, eReaders can cost quite a bit of money. Unlike books, that can only be about $20 at the highest. I guess I just love the smell of the paper and turning the pages. I also love getting all of the books in the same series. I get all proud and jazz when I put them in my bookshelf. Yeah, I'm a nerd. <3

Anyways, I think books will always be around.

You can't always count on the internet for giving you the first chapter or something like that. It can be copyrighted.

Or really time consuming trying to figure out, with manga, which chapters are in a volume and whether you like the content of those specific chapters, and considering I'm normally trying to pick one out of 50... -___________-
