can this affect my academic career by legal means? or just a formality?

Posted

ive had this sucker since i was 13 (now im 16) and could this affect me into getting into college? and no im not associated with any gang in any way or form. all i am is just a teenage girl that made some poor choices...sucks to have a bad reputation but anyways, ive heared that the college people actually CHECK you if you have any tattoos. is this true or some old myth?

ps what i mean by "formality." i mean the general stereotyping of people with piercings, tattoos, ect.

ummmmm, i guess it depends on the college, but i am 99.99999999999% sure that it shouldn't affect your chances.

Nice tat!

And to answer your question, that's definitely a myth!! I'm in college and I have 4 tat's haha Not true at all. Having tattoo's piercings or different colored hair does NOT make you a delinquent!

I am in nursing school and it is mandatory to cover all tattoos and any type of piercings if they are visible with clothes on (clinical uniform). If you are going to any health-related school I suggest not putting tattoos on any part that could be visible xD I have a classmate who have piercings on the back of her neck and it should be covered up every time we go for clinical rotation (she covered them with something like band aid). xD good thing that I am a guy and not having to color my nails because it should be removed during clinical as well.

I am expected to graduate this May and I only have 8 weeks left of school before preceptorship then graduate with a BSN degree! :D

And no, they don't check you -.- you just have to cover them (if visible) for some colleges. :P

my science teacher got like 6 of them. 2 on each arm 2 on each leg, 1 on face(small)

I'm pretty sure that's a myth. And considering where that tattoo is on your body, you could sue the guys checking for sexual harassment, if worse comes to worse!!

No, they can't deny you from going to college because of that, just like they can't deny you of a job because of a tattoo on your face. You can sue them for that.

Nope it definitely is a myth. I have friends who have tattoos on their hands, legs, necks, and arms, etc. and they are still able to attend my college.

I seriously doubt the college about your tattoo unless whatever that tattoo shows ends up on television. On the other hand, the college will definitely care about what activities you have been doing which may or may not be affiliated with tattoos. They might go through your facebook (just b/c it provides quick information) but as long as you don't do anything stupid and write about it, they won't care.

What I define as stupid:

1) Writing. "I copied my friend's math homework and my teacher won't even know about it."

2) Writing, " This weekend was awesome. I totally got high by the end of the night. Those mushrooms were awesome."

What they will probably ignore:

writing " I love playing minecraft and warcraft"

writing " I love death metal music"

writing " I like Game of Thrones"

Well I don't know American rules but I'd assume it wouldn't affect anything, and everyone else seems to think so as well, which is a good sign. May I ask how you got a tattoo at 13??

That's what I was wondering. Don't you have to be a certain age to get a tattoo?

Yeah, everything Exodaze said. Only I was too slow.

Well, that shouldn't be a problem at college, but if you aren't getting tattoer (is this right?) as a job, then your career may be affected. Well, as long as no one can see it I guess it's okay.

my uncle took me to mexico and he had a friend that was a tattoo artist. in america you have to be a certain age. i made a promise to him that i wouldnt tell my mom and to this day she STILL doesnt know c:

Probably not, unless said school/ workplace has a rule against tattoos you should have no trouble getting in. A shoulder tattoo is easily covered anyway.

As long as you don't have anything over the top then your chances shouldn't be ruined.

Your parents can co-sign. A bunch of kids at my school who aren't nearly old enough for a tattoo have their parents sign a waiver agreeing they can have it.

I seriously doubt they can stop you from getting into college because of a tattoo. That's like saying "ew ugly shirt you can't come to our college." They'll probably be a bit more reasonable than that, although as mentioned before, depending on the type of college, it may be better to cover up. I'm sure the school's website has a policy on it and if worst comes to worst, that tat looks pretty easy to hide.

Cool tat dude anyways.

No it most likely won't

No it won't trust me. Most colleges couldn't care less about that. Unless a college you want to go to into the future has a rule about it.

sweet im relived c: thanks people :D *likes every post on dis thread*

No, they can't deny you from going to college because of that, just like they can't deny you of a job because of a tattoo on your face. You can sue them for that.

Unfortunately you'd never be able to tell if they denied you for that reason; they could say it's your grades.

Just a warning though. Colleges will look on Facebook and the likes. If you have a bunch of pictures of yourself on it showing the tattoo off or doing less savory things, the admissions people, who are just regular people, may judge you. So keep it under your shirt for now, but I still don't think that say, if you were the top Harvard perspective student that it would make a difference.

And no, they have no way of telling if you don't have any pictures with your name on them.
