So, it looks like Riku's default weapon is going to be Way to the Dawn, that much is apparent. The question I have is, what's up with his keychain? It looks like an empty Heartless symbol. (Has this already been covered before? I checked through the whole DDD forum and didn't see anything.)

That has aways been his Keychain...

I think he's asking about the symbolism behind it. Maybe it's suppose to be a symbol that is between darkness and light considering he sees dawn as a power that is both light and darkness.

Riku's symbol is the empty Heartless logo. I doubt there's any real symbolism in it, but it's been the symbol for Riku since the original Kingdom Hearts (where it appeared on his dark outfit).

If thats so then, Way to Dawn symbolizes Rikus choose in end of Re CoM. When he chose to walk road to dawn.

i think rikus weapon symbolizes the path from darkness to light

my thoughts exactly

Why is this in the DDD section? Its been known since kh2 that the heartless symbol without the thorned 'x' is his keychain. Unless you just noticed this, which is completely understandable. The keyblade speaks pretty clearly for itself (white wing emerging from devil wing has a momentum towards the light; going to light, or day = dawn; way to the dawn) and there's not much special about the keychain. This 'empty heartless symbol' was also on Riku's dark suit so it could just be a symbol of his.

I think it might show that his heart isn't completely taken over by the darknes, but there is still a fair amount of it.. It would make sense on his suit in KH1 saying that Ansem SoD didn't have complete control. And if you look at the Keyblade itself, there is more darkness to it than light.

Sorry, I was just asking about the keychain, not the blade itself.

As stated in the original post, I wasn't sure if this kind of question had been posted already. I didn't just notice this, but I did just start to wonder about it. And I made sure to specify "keychain" so that everyone would know that I wasn't talking about the blade itself.
