Why wasn't Pride Lands and Jungle Book in this game?

Posted

For Pride Lands I've heard a lot of different stories. Some say "at the time, the PS2 did not display the models of lions correctly" and others said "the game did not have enough space for Sora and Goofy to walk on four legs". How did it not have enough space, I don't get that.

Why was Jungle Book removed? Was it for similar reasons?

Anyway, at least we all know Scar was supposed to be one of the original KH Disney villains along with Maleficent, Hades, Jafar, Ursula, Captain Hook, and Oogie Boogie.

And FYI, I did not just find out about this, I've known about it since at least 2008.

Deep Jungle was in Kingdom Hearts rather than The Jungle Book. The Jungle Book was nearly in Birth by Sleep. I guess having Scar and The Pride Lands just seemed.... odd in Kingdom Hearts.

I heard his model didn't look right but recently I heard that "the game didn't have enough space for Sora and Goofy to walk on four legs". What the hell does that even mean?

Nomura said that the tech wasn't right for the Pride Lands to get the best experience from them at the time. With Jungle Book, it might be because it would be too similar to Tarzan, world wise, that they didn't want to mess with it.

Well, Jungle book wasn't in BBS because it was too much like Never Land.

And what is up with all these topics? Do you want a free copy THAT bad? e-e

I think a 4 legged model is harder to animate than a 2 legged character...

We've heard a lot of reasons why The jungle book wasn't in BBS! As for pride lands in KH, Namura-san said that the animations hadn't worked out quite as planned!

It's the explanation I hear the most. Or maybe there just wasn't enough space for the whole world. Who knows?

Uhm no I don't. It's almost as if you people are suggesting I don't post any topics. I have no intention in getting a free copy so please leave me the hell alone http://kh13.com/forum/public/style_emoticons/default/dry.png.

Yeah sometimes the worlds seem so small yet KH is still one of the larger games ( gameplay and memory wise)

That's exactly what I'm assuming and

Nomura is such a troll that he leaves us asking questions about games 10 years after its release.

Maybe Pride Lands was not in KH1 because it's story. It was destroyed like lots of other worlds. And after defeating Ansem it came back.

This is so correct! Remember, Simba was a summon in Kingdom Hearts. The only character summons in Kingdom Hearts had their worlds consumed by Darkness. The Fairy Godmother said so. Plus I think they mentioned it in Kingdom Hearts II.

That's their excuse for leaving the world out. It is implied that Nomura wanted this game in Kingdom Hearts 1.

That would only be true if the fact that the Pridelands was destroyed was a major part of the plot. Which it wasn't. That is a small detail that could have been changed to some other world being destroyed (Pridelands wasn't the only one...) or that detail could have simply been removed altogether. That detail was probably only created to explain why certain worlds were not visitable.

No idea why the Pridelands was left out. It could have been an animation issue as people have suggested... it might have been a space issue (no idea how much of the disc's space was still available after the entire game was made)... it certainly wasn't because "making Sora, Donald, and Goofy walk and 4 legs made the file huge" (which obviously makes no sense).

It could have also been due to the Pridelands being irrelevant due to not having a Princess of Heart (or Princess at all for that matter). However, this is doubtful considering that they included Halloween Town, Olympus Colliseum, and the plot-related worlds Traverse Town and Deep Jungle... none of which have a corresponding Princess (and Atlantica which has a Princess but no Princess of Heart... and the 100 Acre Wood although that's more of a sidequest).

As for the Jungle Book not appearing... my guess is that it was a combination of being too similar to Deep Jungle and the fact that there was no "villain" in it other than that tiger and snake which were quite different from the other Disney villains (I really couldn't see them summoning Heartless or seeking power or anything...)

What I stated was "the software did not have enough space for Sora and Goofy to walk on 4 legs". Now that I think about it, that does make no sense so I'll go on that KH Wiki and talk to those bafoons. But note the fact that Sora and Goof were supposed to be a lion and a turtle which are both 4 legged animals and Donald was suppose to be a bird, flying in the air. I think 4 legged animations are harder ti process then a two legged animtion.

What I originally heard was that "at the time, the PlayStation 2 did not display the 3D renders of lions correctly". I'm not sure if that's what Nomura exactly stated but it's close.

Oh and yeah, the Jungle Book would have no real plot. Shere Khan and the Pooh Snake were both useless and stupid villains. Scar > Shere khan, Winnie the Pooh > Pooh Snake.

Pride lands was dam hard to program, that's why they drop the proyect for the KH1, but nomura loves simba character, thats why it stayed just as a summon in the game, and i think the explanation of the fairy godmother was pretty convincing, it's a shame they forgot to include it in the following games.

They didn't forget it, they just completley disregarded it.

That's completley right. And as for Jungle Book...eh...idk. Why wasn't The Sword In The Sword in the game? (Don't say "Merlin plothole") Why did we get Bambi and Mushu without a world based off thier respective movies? (At that time, for Mushu)... I guess it boils doen to"they didn't think about it at the time" or "it would have been 2 many worlds".

Uhm no. A world based off of Bambi would be useless and the Mushu part is quite obvious. It's like the guy said earlier, the villains in The Jungle Book would be too lame for Kingdom Hearts.

Good point....

That's completley right.

That is true, but I doubt it was beyond their skills (or the system's technical limitations) to do. Also it doesn't take up any more space than an animation with just 2 moving legs... if anything then it would take up slightly more processing but even that I doubt.

What is so obvious about the Mushu thing? There was a Mulan world in Kingdom Hearts Ⅱ...

Would Nomura spend more time trying to make lion(ness) designs for Ventus, Aqua and Terra?

Quite possibly.

I heard something about needing another collision detection engine for the level and or something about difficulties portraying convincing quadrupedal movement. Plus since it was early days on PS2 there must've been all sorts of issues against it
