So... popular series, eh?

Though I wonder which of the anime is better: the original or the remake?

What do you guys think? Please, guide me to the promise land.

Hey guys, how's it going?  You know, recently I started watching Full Metal Alchemist,(it's so frickin awesome!)and I think it's a really good anime.  The humor and plot is well placed, and all the characters show such vivid emotion.  But the character that most closely sticks to me long after I've turned off my TV is Alphonse Elric.  The fact that he has no body and that he only has a suit of armor to keep him alive is so sad.  But what strikes me most of this character, is his sense of kindness and innocence.  I mean sure, Edward is awesome too, but Alphonse has a more gentle nature, and seeing how he does his best to guide his brother down the right path is heartwarming.  I love the heart to heart moments the two brothers have, and it makes me smile every time they bond.  Alphone has such a sense of innocence that lacks in children nowadays, and that's why he's one of my favorite characters of Full Metal Alchemist.  What do you guys think of him? :)

I've been watching FMA Brotherhood ( you can clearly see that xD ), so I know what you're saying.

But still, I like Mustang more.

YES ALL OF THESE FMA FANS ARE JUST ROLLING IN I'M LOVING IT! I'm still the true fan here though!

I'm going to say you're watching Fullmetal Akchemist, and not Brotherhood, which you should probably watch after if you like FMA, Brotherhood, in my opinion is better although FMA has its perks.

As for the question, Alphonse has always been one of my favorites, even with the fact that Alchemy basically ruined his life he looked at the good side of it, and that he'll keep striding along with Edward to get to their new goal. I don't want to mention any stories because I don't know how far you've gotten, but I love the sense of mercy both brothers have with their friends and enemies alike. They also keep on going no matter what brings them down, especially in regards to Shou Tucker and what he did to Nina and Alexander. Mentioning this, you should really hear this music, it plays during the anime several times, but here at 3:40 its now singing, in the place of Edward Elric. Mentioning what he and his brother go through and how they failed to their mother, etc. You should really hear it its wonderful.

Truly splendid.  The song gave me goosebumps. :')  And yes, I plan to see Brotherhood when I finish seeing FMA.  I'm still on Season 1, on episode 12 or 13 I believe. I already saw the episodes where Edward and Alphonse met the two impostor Elric brothers.  So then, for all who see this post, do not spoil anything to me!  Feel free to give your opinion on Alphonse but do not spoil me! Please and thank you. ^_^

I like him.

This, while trying to avoid spoilers I'll just say he's a wonderful person who really cares for his brother no matter what he goes through.

Haha I just finished FMA recently, and I can tell you that the ending is definitly not as you'd expect! but I still have yet to watch brotherhood

I have to agree Alphonse is one of my favorite characters, because his personality is so optimistic and gentle. :3

I couldn't think of a better Anime for a person to watch!

Full Metal Alchemist is so well written. The person who made it - Hiromu Arakawa is brilliant.

Alphonse Elric is my favorite character....he is so sweet and just really cares for his older brother.

As you get more towards the end of the series, Al really gets you right in the heart, with everything he goes through to get his body back.

Brotherhood is better if you prefer a deeper storyline and more heroes to follow. The older series is better if you like bawling your eyes out because it will break your heart and give you many many feels. Personally, I liked Brotherhood better for the story because it didn't have any fillers and it was just more intense. FMA is a more touching story emotionally. So depending on what you like more (epic story or emotions), you'll like one series over the other.

I finally caved and starting watching after years of hearing how good this show is. I'm watching the original as its the only one on Netflix. I believe I'm on episode 12 or 13.

Gotta say, its already made me more emotional than almost any other show I've watched (and probably most movies). Episode 7 Spoilers

Nina and Alexander being turned into a Chimera by Nina's father, really got to me. For three days after watching this episode I couldn't stop my mind from wandering back to this episode. I realized something was going to go very wrong from the preview in the previous episode, and I knew it would involve Nina, but I just wasn't prepared for it. I cried after watching this episode, I really did.

I'm actually watching Brotherhood in Japanese right now, and I gotta say, I'm liking what I see. :)

Whelp, I've finished watching the entire series, as well as the movie*. Really great show, but

I really didn't care for the ending. That's with watching the movie. In fact, I think I felt sadder seeing the end of the movie than I did seeing the end of the show. Sure, Ed and Al were reunited and Al regained his memories, but they were stuck on Earth, never to see anyone else they ever cared about. Ughhhhhh. As cliche as they are, I always want a happy ending.

Another problem I have with the movie is that the deaths of some of the characters felt rather abrupt. May just be me, but Wrath, Envy, Hohenheim's deaths just felt really sudden and quick. Hohenheim's in particular.

*Had to see the movie after that ending. I literally went online and bought it the morning after watched the last few episodes.

Also, about Envy

I totally went through the entire series, up to the point where its revealed that he was Hohenheim's first son, thinking Envy was female. Needless to say, it was a huge WTF moment for me.

Envy is a dude in FMA, and genderless in Brotherhood.

The show is done and there's only 64 episodes. So you have all the time in the world.

Yeah, that's a little more reasonable than some of those other animes. I've been trying to catch up on One Piece for some weeks now, and I'm still 100+ episodes behind lol... But there's no rush, best to take my time and enjoy them!
