So going into KH3D I thought that Xemnas, Xehanort's Heartless, and Young Xehanort were all some sort of "dream phantoms" that Riku and Sora were encountering as they traversed the Realm of Sleep. I was wrong, I should've known not to assume anything about the plot of a Kingdom Hearts game, haha.
Instead of a game about dreams, KH3D turned almost abruptly into a game about time travel, and it was revealed that YX had brought Xemnas and Xehanort's Heartless forward in time along with all of his other selves so that they could become his vessels of darkness.
Then he fails. All of the different vessels are sent back to their own times. According to YX, once you return to your own time you lose your memories and experiences during time travel, so the 13 he gathered have now forgotten the events of KH3D. MX tells Mickey, Riku, and Lea that neither the unions of light nor darkness were achieved.
Now, here's what I'm a bit confused about. It seems impossible for either Xemnas or Xehanort's Heartless to be vessels; he was only revived by the destruction of those two, meaning his heart and body have been "recompleted". Xehanort cannot be his Heartless and himself in the same time frame; his heart can't be contained in his Heartless if he's going to split it among thirteen vessels, right? To that point, how can any of his past selves be a vessel now that they've gone back to their own times?
Isa and Braig have been revived in the current time, so they can act as vessels again. And Terranort should be back since Xemnas and Xehanort's Heartless are destroyed. Most folks have been generally agreeing that the 13 vessels are incarnations of Xehanort, but I'm not convinced yet. One of them obviously has to be Xehanort in some form or another, but without Young Xehanort the Time Lord and his Keyblade TARDIS (or however he time travels) he can't gather the Nort brigade seen in KH3D.
I might have misinterpreted some things, but let me know if I have. KH3D wasn't exactly straightforward in places and I was definitely confused. What do you guys think?
