Alright...

Look, I know its looks bad, but I don't think he would spend hour long videos analyzing both volumes in detail, episode by episode, if he didn't care just a bit about RWBY. It's easy to make a video that's a fifth of that length to just go "blah blah blah, this sucks, blah blah blah, this is awful", but he went the extra mile, and backed up everything he said with evidence from the show, extra content such as the podcasts, and his own reasonings.

Hello, fellow RWBY fans.

This video was recently uploaded by fatmanfalling:

He's encouraged his subscribers to Tweet this video to Miles & Kerry, aka RWBY's writers, to get the message out on this idea.

I've already done it myself, and I suggest any of you who are interested do as well, if possible.

First of all, funny video.

When I watch RWBY, I enjoy it incredibly mostly because I have a bias towards it. But I never stop to think and have that "Oh shit" moment you arrive at when everything in the plot converges together to make the best of twists. Some of my most favorite series know how to plant seeds and combine them to completely surprise the viewers, players, or readers.

Watching all of RWBY and recalling it, I never once was lost (and loved it) due to brilliantly written, complicated plot. I never wondered what the writers were actually planning, because as a writer myself, I recognize most, if not all, of these -sorry to say it- overused tropes and cliches.

I think that IS the biggest thing RWBY is missing. It's missing the 'oomph' in the writing. Sure, the 3D animation isn't that great, fight scenes are the focal point/shining star, and there are plenty references and easter eggs to other works to go around, but the writing holds a plot-driven series together. If the writing is the most amazing thing ever, people can look past the animation, especially without Monty around for the fight scenes, and the series isn't carried by some jokes, references and fight scenes directly contradicting the writing.

Doooooooes that mean you're gonna play the game too? :P

I don't like those kinds of videos because there is only two possibly results from this.  Say all of Volume 3 comes out and it didn't meet this guys expectation then he is going to complain saying that not many people sent the videos to Miles and Kerry to make an impact, or on the other side of the coin is that it dose meet his expectations or possibly go further than that then he is going to claim credit for why it turned out so great which would most likely be bullshit, so there is no possessive outlook with videos like this in my opinion.

They started the writing phase of Volume 3 a few months ago I believe, they have to be pretty far because they still do plan to release it sometime this year and my guess is at RTX which is when they premiered the first episodes of Volume 1 and 2 as well.  RTX is in August this year so they still have some time but who knows how long animation is going to take so they might be either close to finished writing Volume 3 or they are finished, if they are closed they could still start recording lines, which I think they are actually already doing since I believe that Lindsey (the voice of Ruby) said in a few videos that shes been in that she has been recording lines already, so this video is pretty late to the party since it just got released yesterday.

Plus things are different now that Monty has passed we don't know how this or the future Volumes are going to go because of it and we will never know how they would've been if he was still alive, but I remember watching the Rooster Teeth Podcast after they announced RWBY Burnie talked about how Monty was already talking about stuff that was going to happen in Season 4 so who knows what Monty left behind for them to use as notes to further the show to how he would want it to.  Dose Volumes 1 and 2 have their flaws, yes they do but they are still enjoyable to watch, Rooster Teeth production stuff dose take a while to really get up there I mean look at Red vs Blue that is the longest web series ever and the first few seasons of that where not that great either in terms of plot and such but it worked with that kind of show.  RWBY will have people that will criticize it even far more than you do, I have seen it, and that enough is probably the motivation that makes them want to make it better, plus  Monty wanted to start Volume 3 as soon as Volume 2 was done so again who knows what is all Monty's ideas and what won't be, we will never know unless you ask them or work with them.

I'm excited to watch Volume 3 when it comes out I'm sure it will be better than the first two and I'm sure it will have it's flaws as well that people will nitpick at but hey haters gonna hate and to each their own.

Nora heard from a little birdy that the 3rd season will have the backstory of her and Ren's friendship from childhood.  And from this point, Nora just wants them to follow Monty's ideas, just like you said, then build from there. It could fit nicely.

Monty's ideas could still be tweaked if necessary Nora.

Like most of his ideas in the first two volumes.

The person who made this video is a well-minded individual who understands critique and quality, and he's not going to be upset at anybody who didn't send the video. its a choice. Its a game for his subs, nothing more and nothing less. Also: he's not going to claim credit for RWBY Volume 3 being good because frankly, anybody with a brain should expect it to be good and cover up the flaws from Volumes 1 and 2. Though whether or not that remains to be seen is, of course, still up in the air.

And the rest of what you said can basically can be summed up in the words I highlighted in bold. You should know how I feel about that phrase. And the term "haters" in general, so uh, yeah, boo to that crap.

Either way, I'm not holding anybody hostage to do this funny bingo card game-thingamajigger. It was just an idea made by a fellow RWBY fan who recognizes the major flaws in RWBY and wants the series to get better going into Volume 3.

Also, it doesn't matter what Monty left behind for Miles and Kerry. They still have to make it good, unlike most of what they have produced for Volumes 1 and 2.

I mean no disrespect or offense I may have caused, I didn't know how you felt about the phrase haters gonna hate or the term haters.  I just couldn't take that video serious or that guy in general considering that he says that he couldn't think how Volume 3 could fix Volume 1 or 2 and then said that if he couldn't think of an idea how he dreads what the people who actually work on it will do.  To me right there that just seems a little disrespectful it's like he's saying if I can't think of a way Volumes 1 and 2 will be fixed with Volume 3 then there is no way the people who actually work on it will.  I don't know this guys background I don't know if he has any writing experience or not I'll give him credit for the whole bingo thing he came up with.  I think the series will get better with Volume 3, this whole show is something different than what they normally do, this is a show that started with a serious feel to it with some sillyness along the way, while the majority of what they worked on before, RT Shorts, and RvB, are all sillyness with some serious, so it's a little different but they are doing the best they can with it.

Doooooooes that mean you're gonna play the game too? :P

Just watched his 2 hour review on Vol 2 and I agree on many points, though he did gloss over some that I would beg to disagree with. Vol 1 > Vol 2, but that doesn't make Vol 1 any better. It's sad that RWBY was Monty's plaything for his action scenes and now that won't even be there.

Well first off, some of that video wasn't meant to be taken serious. I don't know if you could tell but this person is also a comedian. Second, he's shared his experience of screen-writing various times in his videos. Just watch his reviews of Volume 1 and 2. There is nothing more to be said. Like I mentioned, he backs up everything he says with evidence/logical reasoning.

Also, if you actually watched his reviews, you would know why he has low expectations for Miles and Kerry on Volume 3. It's not because they're comedy writers, it's not because its something different, its not even because they're terrible writers, because they've proven they are not in past with RvB. It's because of various problems and decisions that have been made in RWBY. Plotting, characterization, basic use of logic in both realistic and in-universe sense. All of these elements have been botched in some way or shape of form with only some little redeeming quality to be left of it. Not to mention that it seems like K&M are either constantly re-writing or forgetting parts of the show's scirpt or lore, plus the fact that (as proven with evidence from commentaries and podcasts) their habits of literally throwing things at the wall and seeing what sticks. All of which is a big no-no in terms of quality writing and sunken RWBY down a very low run of the Ladder of Successful Storytellling.

Bottom line: fatmanfalling is trying to do good for the series, not bad. Any help at this point should be welcomed to improve the show.

Everyone! There was a grimm at the dance in Volume 2!

Ignore Jaune's eyes- there's clearly a grimm back there where my arrows point!

I just kill grimms I'm no good at identifying them, but pretty sure it's an Ursa Minor

Out of curiosity, which you mind sharing that you disagreed on?

Just some misunderstandings.

  • He mentioned that Penny shouldn't be at the dance because she isn't a student, but if I remember correctly, all students from all kingdoms were invited, were they not? Though it doesn't explain how many students from all kingdoms are at Vale just wasting the school year away. I feel like this was just taken from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, where the two schools live at Hogwarts for the year.
  • Weiss's change in character, although very pronounced and pretty much done weirdly (aka trying to use puns like Yang and standing on top of a chair like something Ruby would do), DID make sense. Weiss is slowly being affected by her team and part of friendship is sharing/picking up the same jokes and traits from each other as long as they don't meld into the same characters. I wish they were a bit more subtle though, I think the pun thing did work, not so much the chair thing, directly contrasting her actions.
  • That being said, I did agree with the many other contradictions regarding character personalities throughout the series thus far, like Yang looking for her mother and caring for her sister, but saying she did not want to know about what tomorrow would bring.
  • He mentioned a distaste for the romance scenes or lack thereof between Pyrrha and Jaune, and I personally enjoyed them, though they really didn't do much to progress the story. More of a personal reference in my part.
  • Coco taking out her badass weapon, I thought, was due largely in part to the large gap between freshmen and sophomores, meaning Team RWBY and freshmen by extension are living inside a tiny bubble within a large, unexplored vast ocean. After he pointed out many flaws in the story, I'm starting to think this was just one of those moments where the animators took their own liberties on it or even worse, it was intentionally written into the story without any thought put into it. I'm giving Miles and Kerry the benefit of the doubt and say it's the bubble in an ocean metaphor.

That's all I can remember from the top of my head.

That's all I can remember from the top of my head.

The school dance was never specified to include visiting students from other kingdoms. Just Beacon Academy. Penny was sort of thrown in there considering that a) she's a vistor and b) her handlers supposedly forbid her to be outside (and no, having the guards by her as she dances doesn't help, it actually does the opposite. "Don't go outside" means "don't go outside". She's not a dog who's getting time off her leash, she's a freaking robot who can possibly kills things.)

Also, he meant that lots of Weiss's previous established traits were basically thrown out the window in favor of having her do those silly gag scenes with the team. It's not like she sporadically changed from Vol 1 to Vol 2 in a way to make that stuff seem legitimate enough, especially after her mini-arc in Vol. 1 was pretty much retconned by her actions in the finale of Vol.1. She's still irritable, dumb when it comes to combat and basic social interaction, possibly still racist against Faunus, and has problems with her family, so having her act the way she does is in Vol. 2 is just wiggity wiggity whack in terms of character development, and the gag scenes i.e. playing up of her stupidity for comedy (plus her ship teases with Neptune) aren't helping that. It's not because the "team is growing on her", she is deliberately forsaking her established character traits. And now she's even less of a character than she was in Vol 1. thanks to it. She's basically turning into a walking punchline, both in terms of actual comedy and in terms of her faltering characterization.

Everything else I'm fine with.

You know what, never mind. lol

im not about to send a video to miles, kerry and shane that basically says what they made wasnt good. i liked what they made. and knowing miles and kerry if they did see this video they would probably just laugh and go on with their day

I haven't seen the video yet, but I don't think this is the way to look at it, whenever Burnie speaks about RT he says one of the best things about online video is getting instant feedback, meaning they would probably appreciate hearing anything, anyone thought was wrong with the seriesAt the end of the day RWBY is cool but not perfect, nothing is perfect, but unlike most other shows we can tell them directly how we think they can improve

RTX TO BE IN AUSTRALIA THIS YEAR!!

Saw it on the rooster teeth Facebook page.

RWBY Volume 3 has gone into production as said by Grey who will be co-directing this volume along with Miles as Kerry has stepped up to be the director for the Volume since he worked the closest with Monty on the other two Grey also talks about other stuff which you can read on his Rooster Teeth Journal here

There's still an argument that RWBY isn't an anime lol. Previously, I've stated it isn't one also, but I'm not here to start fires, otherwise Natsu would just eat them. What RWBY is or isn't doesn't really matter to me at this point.

But on that note, I wish they would gather some of the American creators that make animations inspired by anime to sit down and decide on a name for this particular of genre/art style outside of Japan. That way, everyone can agree it's 'THIS'.
