Since I'm a fan of RPG games and anime and since it is the most awaited anime of the summers, I decided to start watching it, and it exceeded my expectation, and now I ask, who else besides me on this site has been watching it and what do you think of it?

Don't get me wrong, I love Sword Art Online, but the concept just isn't anything exceptional. Kirito and Asuna are cookie cutter characters, and at least at one point or another, each of us has wanted to be part of a video game. The whole thing, really besides that mystery murder episode, is nothing unique. Granted, no anime like this has been made before, but the plot and characters are so normal that it really doesn't get me going. I'd be more caught up in it if something more unique happened--come on, we all knew that they weren't going to have to make it to the 100th floor (because they were moving so ridiculously fast) and that Kirito was going to kill Kayaba. Then when he found out Asuna was in ALFheim, we all knew that he was inevitably going to save her from marriage and free her from the game. I wish they'd thrown in a few more plot twists or at least something that wasn't at least halfway predictable. 

 

Anyway, I just wanted to get that out and the thread for the anime seemed like a good place. Again, I love the show, it's just got its flaws. (like many other animes, sadly.)

Yep, that's all I also know about it, but It would be better if the finish the light novel first and then make the anime of GGO arc and the Project Alicization/Underworld arc

Of all of the episodes I watch the story gets intresting, I bet Gun gale online is the real thing

So long time I tried to make actually good review of this show, but since I suck at writing I decided to make boring and bland list of things I liked and which I did not like

I think it's better to start with good things:

The opening is awesome

I like the idea of MMORPG

First episodes are really interesting and cool

I like survival game theme of first 15 episodes

 

Then bad things:

The story gets really predictable later on. 

OST is bad

Many of interesting characters are left out right after their introduction

Villains suck

It's unrealistic for MMORPG: Kirito got randomly system admin powers from ghost of Akihiko (seriously wtf), Kirito suddenly revives in fight against Akihiko 

The lack of RPG elements, we rarely saw the stats of players or any skill trees and the usual things that people do in MMOs. Where was grinding? Getting new weapons? We saw only 3 or 5 big boss fights. Where are missions?

Time skips. seriously you have to think things again if you are going to do timeskip right after the first episode and do that in like every single episode. 

 

Okay I think I have bashed this show enough so I just stop. Overall it's okay, but nothing spectacular really. One of the better animes of 2012, but not the best

Yeah, you accurately pointed out the bad things about SAO, enough said, let's hope they do better in the next anime

Sword Art Online will be getting an English dub at some point. According to the Facebook page as well, it appears one or two of the dubbed episodes appeared at a convention in Boston.

 

It is also apparent that the English voice of Kirito will be Bryce Papenbrook, while the voice for Asuna will be Cherami Leigh.

 

If I, or anyone else can find these dubbed episodes, I'm sure a lot of you would be greatly obliged.

Well I was actually going to start that series but now I will totally wait for the dub version!!!

I'm aware of that. I'm only putting this up because no one else had said something, and I felt like those who like SAO should know.

Oh wow. This is going to be interesting. I think I might re-watch the entire series in English Dub. Though I'm curious what kind of voice actors they will use. I'm slightly worried about that. 

i dont like the voice actor for Kayaba he dont sound right for the character to me but Asuna's and Kiritos characters seem alright so far hope they dont ruin this now with english dub like how they do with so many other great animes

I know! I expected Kayaba to have more...mysticism to him. Not a really young and relaxed sounding guy. Kirito's voice sounded alright, but Asuna's I found to be pretty well done.

I'm really excited for this! I loved the original subbed version, and this one looks great so far! SAO's definitely my favorite anime!
