Director Motomu Toriyama talked a big more about how the "world driven" game works. The Final Fantasy XIII team reiterated that FFXIII was "story driven" and FFXIII-2 was "player driven".

Lightning has 13 days to save the world in Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII. While Lightning tries to change the future, the world moves at its own pace with a 24 hour clock and day/night cycle. Toriyama said "time management" was one of the key systems inLightning Returns.

Players might not even make it to day 13 because Lightning’s actions can slow down the world’s demise or speed it up. Battle Director Yuji Abe says in-game characters act on their own schedule and there are different events depending on the game time (morning, afternoon, evening, or night), which changes in real time. Square Enix is still adjusting the time of one Final Fantasy XIII day, but Abe says he thinks it will be between 1-2 hours.

Abe hopes fans will discover new events when they replay Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII and players will talk about what they saw during a run through the game. Toriyama said the foundation of Lightning Returns is the world driven concept and like a Daruma otoshi toy (a game where you smack the base of the Daruma with a wooden mallet) each part of Lightning Returns is a different block on the Daruma. Toriyama said he will explain his philosophy for the game design during Game Developer’s Conference which sounds like the next time we’ll hear about major developments in Lightning Returns.

So basicly, it's Final Fantasy: Majora's Mask in a nutshell

How many FF13s will there be?!

I like 13 days instead of 3 though.

This is set to be the last one. But there is still Versus 13 too. I can't wait until we get more information on the game! I want to see a trailer already!

Woah. O.O

It seems kinda challenging, but I'm game! :D

Lemme at it >83

I bet it will go up to FF13-13 xD but seriously i really hope this is the last FF13 game. I just FFvs13

DAWN OF THE FIRST DAY

- 312 HOURS REMAIN -

So do you guys thing this game will save the FF franchise, or be the final nail in it's coffin?

P.S. I blame Enix for ruining FF. Think about it. Imo, X was the last great FF game. It was also the last FF Square made before the merger. Coincidence? I think not!

Also has anyone else noticed that gaming companies only seem to reach the full graphical capabilities of a system at the end of its lifespan?

I cant wait for this game, but i really need to play XIII-2 D:< I'M SO EXCITED TO PLAY IT. but i really cant wait for Lightning Returns, i can't wait to customize lighting and...real...time...blocking. ohhhh

seriously, final fantasy 13 is not as bad as some people say. I liked it alot. If you didn't like it ff xiii-2 is it's saving grace, they fixed most of theproblems and added more, which is awesome.

sorry for getting off topic, but on Lightning Returns, i'm super stoked. It's going to be the finale, and am I the only one making connections between this game and versus 13? Both are open world, and have the wanted perspective of bringing in the player into the world of final fantasy. Thoughts?

^They better not be ripping Versus off for those ideas. I don't want LR to come out before Versus, and then have Versus be blamed for unoriginal ideas

I think it'd be 'final nail in it's coffin' except a bit less extreme. SE has been completely ignoring the complaints from fans raving about Versus, and instead milking a series that not many people these days like. I enjoyed FFXIII/-2, but it's a little unfair that SE gives attention to a series that are a lot less demanding than Versus. Heck, look at Type-0. The game looks amazing, yet SE is still in localization limbo, and are still ignorant enough to give more attention to LR. It's a little disrespectful to fans, you know?

I wouldn't say it's Enix at all...

I mean, come on, they made Dragon Quest.

Especially because the Dragon Quest games are still great.

I'm not saying Enix doesn't know how to make great games, just that they don't know how to treat FF. I loved DQVIII. I played IX but just couldn't get into it.

That's the thing though, even though others may say that Versus is unoriginal, we know better right :]?

finally, the end to XIII series. now we all can just forget it and continue
