Nintendo Game Cliches *Grand List*

Posted

Be warned, minor spoilers ahead of certain Nintendo Games!

Feel free to add more in posts so the list will grow and I can add them!

Every video game is fun to at least one person, are they still fun, even if games in a series continue with the same storyline, same problems, ETC?

YES! Some games are perfect or near perfect sequels, and a sequel is meant to be a game where the story is different, but still carries the main characters over, or someone else, not the same game where it's just harder.

Nintendo games all have cliches, but they are still fun! Mario? Saving Princess Peach constantly, sure, but there is normally one new power up and new area. Zelda? Not always saving Zelda. Sometimes fighting against her, but just because she's being controlled. There are never the same dungeons, save for the same name.

  • In a Mario Game, there will almost always be a Plains, Desert, Ocean/Water Island, Ice, Sky, Mountain and Volcano/ Lava world, even in the Paper Marios.
  • Save for CD-i games, you will always play as Link in a Zelda game, though it may not be the same incarnation
  • Kirby games. Kirby has always been able to float, and spit, and eat. Goes for Nintendo made only and Main Games.
  • Zelda Games will start out with Link having a major problem, normally.
  • Zelda games will have at least one sword and shield.
  • Pokemon games will always have a team of poachers who want rare pokemon, or they want to 'set them free'.
  • Bulborbs have always been a Pikmin game, as of now, as they are what you could say the series mascot, the others are a flower and red pikmin.
  • Super Smash Bros. game will always have Mario, Link, Kirby and Pikachu.
  • Pokemon's main series is always get 8 badges and become the champion. (VlllAxel's find)
  • Pokemon games will always have Pokemon in them! (WakelessDream. Lol)
  • Though the series is named after her, Zelda is found nearly through a little at the beginning, at the end and sometimes at the middle. (WakelessDream)
  • In nearly every Mario game with Peach in it...she will always get captured by Bowser or some other bad guy. (Silver3drago)
  • Metroid games will always involve Ridley in some incarnation. (Ztar)
  • All Pokemon games have you fighting against some kind of evil organization using Pokemon for their own ends, usually of the world domination sort. (Dracozombie)

Nice find! ;)

Here's one: pokemon games will always have pokemon in them *shocker*

-Zelda only making an appearance in the games 1-5% of the entire game even though the series is named after her lol

-Another one: Most if not all Zelda games involve some type of musical instrument

Yea but put the things you listed together in a game, tweak it to make it newish and voila! you now have the formula for a new super mario/smash bros/zelda/kirby/pikmin game.

i think you meant incarnation.  incarceration is to be put in jail.

Metroid games all have Samus in them

That's not really a cliche, as she's the main character.

I don't really think these are 'cliches' they're more of staples to the universe of said game.

However- In nearly every Mario game with Peach in it...she will always get captured by Bowser or some other bad guy.

you make it seem like a bad thing

Metroid games will always involve ridley in some incarnation.

I don't think she does in the Mario&Luigi series.

List has been upgraded.

I agree with you on this matter. Peach should be captured by Sephiroth this time

One cliche I've found throughout Nintendo video games: the villain always loses. :P
