I mean after KH1 she kind of disappeared sadly. She had potential.

Re:CoM she had some importance.

KH2: Kairi could have peacefully stayed in the island. It was not necessary for her to get kidnapped story would have fine.

Days: Not even in the focus other than the connection with Xion and stuff.

Re:Coded: see days

BBS: She is saved, like always, by Aqua and touches her keyblade and all that, which shows the connections between them.

DDD: She is going to get trained.

Lately, especially in KH2 ,l feel as if she is forced in the games more than she needs to be. Her role was fine in KH1, useful. She should have been a Mage.

It is like she is part of the trio, but there is no development behind her. I wish the would have developed her more so she would not she would not feel forced. Now, it is at the forcing point.

I think that she is not useless at all, but KH2 on forward she felt forced in when she is not needed to be.

Do I make any sense? No, probably not.

What do you think.

I don't even know what to think of SoKai.

Don't think about it at all.  Is who's having sex with who that important?

Wait.  Don't answer that.

Wait.  Don't answer that.

Huh? I was talking about the pairing not sex.

I kind of feel like Kairi's meant to be an important character, but they're failing at giving her an important role.  in game one she was the damsel in distress, and in game two she was just sort of all over the place, and yet not really important.  She's all Riku and Sora ever talk about, and yet we aren't shown much of her to understand her significance to the series at all.  So, in a sense you could call her a pretty useless character.

They're trying to make up for that in more recent titles though, I've noticed, namely in the secret ending to Dream Drop Distance.  I've also heard tell that she'll play a larger role in KH3, but of course that awaits to be seen.

She's not useless, she's just... not much active. She's kind of a damsel in distress because of the 'everyone wants to kidnap the Princesses of Heart thing'. And with Sora and Riku being Keyblade-ing around all the time, she hasn't been given enough time to develop as someone useful. She's a nice character. I just wish she would use her Keyblade now that she's told to...

nvm.

Well after her training, she won't be so useless with a keyblade.

This topic right here is the thing that angers me most. Not only that people think that way, but because they can't help it. Nomura made them think that way about her, because he failed to broaden her character.

In the first title, she was extremely important to the plot. Like, the character that was always in our head, with us thinking to ourselves, "Where the hell is this girl? Why does she keep popping up out of nowhere to Sora but is invisible to everyone else?" I know I couldn't get her out of my head, simply because she was so important to Sora and Riku, and she was essential to the story, whether she was a Princess or not.

CoM, important to the plot, but kind of hidden behind Namine. That was where the downfall began.

Days, was Xion's base, essentially. Sora's memories of Kairi were so important they became a different person/Nobody/replica. Little mention, important, but still hidden.

In Birth By Sleep I was actually very surprised to see her. I knew that we would see Sora and Riku as little ones, but I figured that Kairi had gotten so little screen time previously that she wouldn't get any at all this time around. Wrong, but for excellent reason. You finally understood why she could wield the Keyblade in KH2. And the fact that she established a connection to Aqua gave her some points; Aqua is a kickass woman, and a Master, so it gave hope that she could follow in the same footsteps.

Now onto Kingdom Hearts 2, where things got worse. She is seen having a connection to Roxas through Namine, which is interesting, because it means that she can connect to others through her heart, and can actually speak with them in real time. Sora, especially. (Could that be a potential factor in KH3? They do mention their hearts are connected...Hm.) But then we don't see her for a long time, depending on how many hours it takes you to get to the point where Axel scares her off. When she ran through the portal, I thought to myself, "Oh? Is she gonna go kick some ass now?" But nope, not a damn thing. She only got kidnapped again, with a minute of screen time at best. She became "the fire that feeds Sora's anger," which meant that she was simply a plot device and nothing more. It was almost too cliche for my tastes; the hero has to save the girl, and that's what their relationship is really based off of. It was cute, but it pissed me off to no end. Why would Square stoop that low? Why would they have to the whole Princess-must-be-damsel-in-distress thing? I mean, they did switch it up when Sora didn't actually save her and Namine helped her out, but it was still a little lazy on their part.

She turned things around, though, when she got the Keyblade and managed to defeat some Heartless, and then said that she, Sora, and Riku wouldn't be separated again. It gave me hope that her character would finally be established, but then DDD came along and they completely shut her out. Until the end, at least. Which gives me some hope that they'll finally finally finally develop her character.

Apart from the fail summary as far as Kairi's character goes, what I'm trying to say is that it's not her fault. So why are people hating on her when they should be hating on the developers or Nomura? He came up with the story, so why doesn't he broaden her character? He can do more with her PoH side than have her be a damsel or "dainty" and "useless." Make her an awesome mage or something! Let her put her powers to work! There has to be a lot about her heart that we don't know!

And another thing... Where is the so-called "love" that she and Sora share for each other? If you're gonna develop her character and not take the fighting route, why not establish the romance between her and Sora? I'm so curious as to where they could take that. We got somewhere when they hugged in KH2. GIMME A KISS DAMMIT.

Sigh. I'm done now.

In case some of you have not forgotten. Kingdom Hearts is a JAPANESE game and in the words of Alotta Fagina/Cleavage from Austin Powers: International Man of Mystery: "In Japan, men come first and women come second."

Do you think that quote explains a lot about Kairi being "useless"? Or why you think this series is so "sexist"? For a more detailed explination look up the role of females in Japan.

she was kind of a disappointing character to me since she didn't do much, but i don't exactly hate her. Since she's going into training in KH3, she might become useful but it's a possibility
