Al Gore Sells Current TV to Al Jazeera

Al Gore is an opportunist, I'll give him that. He can cut his tax rate from 50% to 35% and he'll do it. He claims to be insanely left wing, but he'll be whatever he needs to be to make money. But selling out to someone who hates us? Probably one of his smarter moves. Al Jazeera won't broadcast any anti-American shows here. They'll probably only put on sitcoms and things Americans will willingly watch, because they want money. That money is going to most likely provide them with more anti-American shows in Arabic speaking countries, and maybe even aid in terrorist attacks. Yeah. Good job, Al Gore, I'm glad we voted for Bush.

Hey, Lexi, I'm lazy and didn't read the article! Well, for those of you thinking this, here you go: Al Gore owns Current TV. He sold it to an anti-American company that will show on DirectTV (which has more viewers than every cable network combined) So basically, not good.

Anyway, what do you guys think of this?

I don't have a problem with it. They are a very good news source in the Arab world, they just give don't say Anti-American stuff that often and when they do you have to get our news station does the same. But they wont show any Anti-American stuff to piss off people. c:

Al Jazeera is a very reputable news station, and its good to get your news from several sources, not just one. Sorry that every news station cant be fox news :P

I actually read articles from three different sites and saw it on the news. I don't watch Fox anyway. You should also get your news from more than one station. They're good at reporting news, yes, but they've also done a crapload of other things. They've aired documentaries supporting terrorists, made claims that the US did things like performing witchcraft on terrorists, and basically gone, 'yeah, America, we hate you'.

sorry, not trying to start an argument here, my last post was half kidding. I also get my news from a few sources, but i also have a  business mind. So i dont blame Al for selling to al jazeera, i mean, its his. He can do what he wants with it

Fair enough, but it's almost like he was making a statement. He's doing it for the money, like everything he does, but this is almost taking it to a different level. They're anti-American and though they can report well, they aren't the kind of people Americans should be funding.

At the end of the day it's just business.

And I prefer a creditable news source than "Faux News".

That money is going to most likely provide them with more anti-American shows in Arabic speaking countries,

Did you read this part:

"The English news network has a different news staff and a separate budget from the Arabic network"

Budget is not the same as profit.

It's amazing how obviously greedy someone can be and yet so many people will still support and give their own money to this person.

Don't you think you're exaggerating a bit?

Yeah i don't know much about Al-Jazeera, but to say that they'll aid in terrorist attacks simply because they don't like you is kind of stupid.

And a lot of Arab channels are anti-american, some of them with logical reasons to, but that doesn't mean they'll just gladly aid in terrorist attacks. Yes there's a possibility that they might, but you're just pointing fingers without evidence

I've got reasons, though admittedly I guess it might be for other things. The US suspects that Al Jazeera is up to something. The proof is that on a bombing, they were given the specific location of the Al Jazeera office so it would NOT be blown up. Guess what the only thing blown up was? The Al Jazeera office. They know that something's there. We don't just blow someone up because they've aired stuff saying they hate us. I can't remember where I read this (sorry D8) but they're investigating right now the idea that Al Jazeera sent money to the Taliban. (They also did a documentary on them, where we know they were paid)

Fair point, but you shouldn't just rely on news and documentaries like that. They have a habit of misleading people on both sides for personal gain

Well honestly, where else am I supposed to get my information? xD The news and documentaries are the only places to get anything, unless I go fly to Al Jazeera's headquarters xD

I don't really care that Al sold to Al, because honestly really, he can do what he wants. However, what does concern me is what Gore said were his reasons WHY for selling Current to Jazerra.

Gore said that that out of all the buyers interested in buying Current, he went with the one that he felt was founded based on the same principals as his CurrentTV.

Which... is strange since Gore preaches about how evil pollution is and how Global Warming is going to kill us all, but Jazeera earns all of its money through oil and gas reserves. And Gore wasn't just going off the "high bidder wins" concept, since there are some buyers he instantly turned down without a consideration. If he was looking for "the highest bidder" then he probably wouldn't care who bought Current, he'd just concerned about the money. But by his comment of how he chose his buyer because it was founded based on the same principals as Current, means Gore is looking for someone who can live out his legacy, he is going to choose someone who he agrees with ideologically.

And that man is... Jazerra? Out of all the buyers, HE is the one you agree with the most?

And then another thing that bugs me, is that--here we are, Americans looking for work, and the former Vice President, ALMOST President outsources to Qutar or whatever country Jazeera is from, when he could've easily kept the jobs here in America. (But if he says Current is based on the same Principals as Jazerra, who has made their feelings clear towards America, could this by why he outsourced?)

Then Gore rushes to sell Current before the end of 2012 so he can escape the Tax Increases.

Gore needed the money and didn't care who bought it or how its used, how is this a issue?

He was offered equal amounts by reputable American companies and turned them down. That was even before Al Jazeera entered a bid. So he obviously wasn't going to sell out to anyone, until Al Jazeera came along. For instance, Glenn Beck offered to buy the channel for slightly more than what Al Jazeera offered, but was turned down because Al Gore said that Glenn Beck's beliefs weren't the same as his. Which obviously implies he agrees with Al Jazeera (who hate us). So in this case business = politics
