Indecypher 495 Posted January 13, 2013 No one knows, and it depends on what you mean by story. If you don't want to miss a thing you should start from FF1 even though besides recurring characters and such each FF has it's own storyline. That's what I did. If you mean the FF13 story universe it has it's own little series of games, called Fabula Nova Crystallis Final Fantasy. It's games include: Final Fantasy XIII, the first title in the series, was released in Japan on December 17, 2009, as a PlayStation 3 exclusive within the territory. It was released in North America and Europe on March 9, 2010, for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 consoles. On December 16, 2010, Final Fantasy XIII Ultimate Hits International was released in Japan as an Xbox 360 exclusive. It features English voice acting with Japanese subtitles, an "Easy" mode, and a small book of short stories titled Final Fantasy XIII - Episode Zero.[14] It, together with its two sequels, are now generally referred to by Square Enix as the "Lightning Saga". Final Fantasy Type-0 was released on October 27, 2011 in Japan.[15][16] It has yet to be officially confirmed for release in the West,[17] but despite rumors to the contrary,[18] there is still a possibility of an English localization.[19] Square Enix has registered trademarks for Final Fantasy Type 1, 2 and 3, though there are currently no details available on these projects.[20] The game has since inspired two mangas and two novels telling an alternate story. Final Fantasy XIII-2 was released in Japan on December 15, 2011. The North American English version was released on January 31, 2012, while its European counterpart was released on February 3, 2012.[21] The pre-order bonus pack of the English release came complete with the translation of a prequel story titled Final Fantasy XIII: Episode i, set immediately before the events of the game. Along with the game, there are two 200-page-plus books that tell of events before the game's start that are hinted at or partially seen,[22] and show events that happened during and after the game, tying up loose story threads.[23] Lightning Returns: Final Fantasy XIII, a sequel to XIII and XIII-2, was announced on 1 September at the 25th Anniversary Event in Japan. Set to conclude both the story of the main character Lightning and the FFXIII story arc, it is set to be released in 2013 for the Xbox 360 and the Playstation 3.[24][25] Final Fantasy Versus XIII, another official title in the series, was announced in the same year as XIII and Type-0 (then Agito XIII), with a trailer featuring plot features and gameplay footage released in 2011.[26] This is the only originally announced game in the series that has yet to be released. It was stated to have entered full production in 2011.[27] Despite Kotaku reporting a rumor that the game had been quietly cancelled by Square Enix,[28] this was later denied by Yoichi Wada, who stated that the game is still in development, though no release date has been released.[29] The game's producer, Shinji Hashimoto has recently hinted that, although it would not be appearing at the Tokyo Game Show, it would likely be making an appearance in 2013.[30]

Mystics Apprentice 2,397 Posted January 13, 2013 thank u!!!i was afraid of getting like?the 7th then the 10th and skipping the story=)but they are seperate right?Thank u They have a pre-order up for Versus XIII on Amazon, (link), but, honestly, I won't believe it's coming till I see an actual release date. Each Final Fantasy runs in it's own universe and era (well, basically) and no characters cross other games. For example, Final Fantasy VII has an ENTIRELY different cast and world from Final Fantasy X, so it really wouldn't make a difference which you played first. Now, both games do have sequels--Final Fantasy X-2 follows Final Fantasy X directly, as does Dirge of Cerberus for Final Fantasy VII--so I wouldn't necessarily play one of its sequels first. But unless a Final Fantasy has the same number in its title, they're running on very separate worlds. You should get either X, VII, VI or IV first; they were my favorites. Pyrrha Nikos 1,162 Posted January 13, 2013 (edited) We've all been asking that question since it's announcement On a serious note. No one knows when it will be release, but there have been rumors speculating that it MAY show in next week's Famitsu magazine. But I wouldn't get your hopes up if it were false.
