I go to a certain dinner that starts as soon as the dining hall opens for an all you can eat service.  Yesterday we got in line only to be told that they were no longer using trays to prevent people from wasting food.  Here's the problem: It's an all you can eat dinner with different two service counters, a drink stand and a salad bar.  How would someone get all of their food to their table without a tray?  And we eat in a cafe on the other end of the building.  Don't get me wrong, I don't like wasting food - there are children in other countries that have to eat dirt, but getting rid of the trays is only going to tick people off. If they really wanted to cut down on the food waste, they would be better off getting rid of the all you can eat service and make everyone pay for each item of food.  And they did without warning, too.  No "Oh, but the way we're no longer using trays" posters or anything.  They did realize that it wasn't for the best, because 10 minutes after we had gotten our food, others were coming into the room with trays due to many complaints.  All I have to say is really people?  Really?

wow. That's just yeah, weird. I mean if they want the food to not be wasted make it no longer all you can eat or make it to where they have to pay something. Not surprised they got complaints.

some schools are completely demented. my sisters old school still sends the school newsletter to my mum via email and she left that school 2 years ago...

I wish I had a school cafe like yours, an all you can eat. Our's is only a single meal and highly overpriced for moderate food. I stopped buying, started bringing. Anyways, the tray thing is just ridiculous. All the buffets and all you can eat diners all have trays for a reason, it's not like we have a million hands to hold so many plates... There are better solutions to prevent wasting than to remove trays. 

 

I don't know, but I feel like School Boards and such are getting a little dumb. I've been reading articles where schools suspend little kids for ridiculous things. One for bringing a small toy gun, another for pretending to throw an invisible grenade that doesn't exist. What really made me laugh [not really] was in Florida, the School Board is banning all School Clubs so they don't have to pass the Gay-Alliance Club. And the list goes on.

your right. my school has people constantly coming and leaving (teachers and principles as well). our last principle wasn't the best but the best thing she done for the school was having macbook pros as laptops instead of the crappy ones the rest of the country gets (tiny lenovos)

Yeah, that just doesn't make that much sense if they're wanting to reduce food waste.  I mean, cutting the tray's nice and all, but I think the first thing to go should be the "all you can eat."  I mean seriously, how are you supposed to carry everything without a tray?  Silly people.

Yeah, that idea just kinda sucks ._. okay wasting food is one of the things I despise in this world the most, but that doesn't make sense

There are similar cases in my school every now and then and generally just ideas that are so bad that I can only imagine monkeys banging on drums thinking them up.
