The Beginning

Sony entered the video game industry after Nintendo refused to use discs in the next Nintendo console. And thus the PlayStation was born. The PlayStation won the first true "Video Game Console War". The PlayStation was the console of the nineties. Square liked it so much they ported their Final Fantasy games to the PSOne and released the following three on it. Laying out the impressive relationship between Square and PlayStation.

The Next Big Thing

The PlayStation 2 quite literally was the next big thing. It was the first ever console to play DVDs. It was the first console to play games in Standard Definition instead of Low Definition. Like most things the jump from Analogue technology to Digital technology was a massive one. Final Fantasy X appears in this video. The PlayStation 2 won the second "Video Game Console War" easily. And become the highest selling video game console of all time.

For a bit of Square history. They released Final Fantasy X, X-2, XI and XII. Along with the Kingdom Hearts games. For their first couple of PS2 games the dubbing wasn't perfect. But with X-2 and KH2 it was much improved.

The Next Generation

The PlayStation 3 is the greatest video game console in terms of hardware (At time of writing). It was the first console to ever use Blu-ray Discs. And it remains to this day the only console to use normal Blu-ray Discs.

Pretty cool! :)
I think this would be awesome to see with each of the companies but doubt it'd happen.

so it all started from nintendo :O

For a minute I thought Sony announced that the PS4 would be called "Evolution"

The good younger days. I remember buying the PS1 on day 1.

Well the first video game was like "Jump Man" (Mario and Donkey Kong).

Yay for Crash.

PS2 video is up

I thought the video game "war" of the 90's was between Mario and Sonic.

Sony is my favorite console manufacturer, and I can't wait to see with what they cook up next. :)

You're both wrong actually. The first  electronic game was made in 1947 and was known as the Cathode Ray Tube Amusement Device (as typical of the 40s, it recieved the most un-whimsical name ever).

The first true video game is often considered to be NIMROD or NIM for short,  it was the first computer made specifically for games. This was made in 1972.

Pong wasn't even the first arcade or console game, it's merely the first video game that got popular and proved that this new form of entertainment is profitable.
