So it begins.

 

I have gathered them here. They know nothing yet. That will change soon. I wonder how they will take to each other. Time will tell. Regardless, no more time can be wasted. The Experiment must now begin. Time to wake them up...

 

"Good morning. Welcome to the next part of your life."

 

The voice rang out in all of their ears. Earpieces, firmly attached in the ears of all of them. Inside came the unnerving and unnaturally changed voice on the other end. One by one, after hearing the voice, each of the subjects began to wake. Lying on the shore of a short beach was Yumi Yuki Ai, Ember Mors, Luce Angelo, Hazimie Azhar, and Rasiel Kasaragi. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

 

Miles away lay an abandoned collection of bunkers and buildings. They surrounded an airstrip. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay several more people. Ren Cabret, Neisan, Kilek North, Tsuna Sasaki, and Sikota Urinakano. Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

 

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four other subjects; Robert Evans, Karu Kasaragi, Fulmen Aizen, Xander Steel, and Locke Stern. Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an imaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

 

On this island the Experiment is to be conducted. The island itself is only a few miles across, but its jungles, beaches, and bunkers hold long-kept secrets. These people now find themselves as part of a deadly game. They will have to get to know each other, and work together to discover what is sought from them, and in the process they must learn what they seek themselves.

 

The voice buzzed through their earpeices once more.

 

"Time to wake up. The Experiment has begun. You won't want to be asleep for this... Wake up and meet your new friends... and enemies. Wake up...

 

...the game has begun."

"Nobody will be protecting nor fallowing us." Karu snapped, glaring at both Xandre and Humm.

"Bye!" Rasiel smiled as Karu made his way over to the left door, slipping inside the door, he let Rasiel fallow him quickly."Why are you being so protective of me all the sudden?" Rasiel asked after Karu closed the door.

"Xi told me to go through the left door and you through the right...I wasn't going to leave you alone, plus, if you're here and we get into a fight, we are pretty strong together, so we'll survive." Karu said with a smile.

Rasiel hugged her brother before looking to the darkness of what the door had lead them to...

"We should head off into one, Yumi." Fulmen said, looking at each one of the doors available, trying to judge which would be the best to enter. He sighed after a minute, unable to choose.

"Would you do the honors, Yumi?" Fulmen asked, looking to her with an awkward smile. At this point, he really began to lose a bit of happiness-- it was like the thick, oppressively humid air sucked out the energy from him. He sighed, his eyes finally resting on the door to the right of the one Rasiel and Karu had entered.

Joshua walked over by Yumi. "Hi, Yumi." He said a little quietly. He looked back at Humm amd examined him for a few moments. (Hm...... yeah. ...He's taller than me a little bit....) Joshua thought with a deep and dramatic sigh. "And um..." Joshua quietly muttered, looking up at Fulmen. "Um...you're Fulmen, right?" He asked him, quietly and awkwardly. "I'm Joshua.... Joshua Akira. It's...uh, nice to meet you."

 

(So they're made of plasma. How troublesome.) Isaac thought. He took out his knives and chose to jump into action now. He ran out the way of the plasma rather than standing and taunting as before, going to Luce with a swift slice to his neck.

 

"Hm, it will be nothing. You may all have the place to yourselves afterwards. I will take a temporary leave." Lira told Ren. She picked the simplistic bandages as well as a liquid medicine for the blood circulation, and a small pill for the pain. "Here you go." The woman knelt beside Kilek, wrapping his leg with the bandages, and handing him the pill and bottle. "You must swallow this down, and drink this." She told him.

The left door clicked as it shut, locking. Yumi, Fulmen, Xander, all the rest besides Rasiel and Karu had only the remaining door choice remaining...  the one on the right. It opened before them, an empty open room awaiting them on the other side. On the other side of the empty room was a single door. The door on the right seemed inviting, and it was the only remaining choice.

 

Rasiel hugged her brother before looking to the darkness of what the door had lead them to...

 

The room was chilled and empty. On the far side a door stood, but there was a light overhead that shone red, apparently indicating that the door was locked. In the center of the room were the only objects in the room. It was a single pedestal with two items on top; a single red button with a glass cover over it... and a small closed box.

 

Only Karu heard him...

 

"You are not the first person to care for your siblings, Karu. I harbor no resentment for your choice of disobedience."

 

Xi's voice seemed to imply with his voice that there was something worse than his resentment to fear.

 

"Step forward, open the box, and the next test will be explained."

Ren watched critically as Lira tended to Kilek, wrapping his leg skillfully.  There was something peculiar about her, yet he was too worn-out to place it.  He took in the storehouse; apart from Lira and the medical supplies, it was rather barren and empty.  This didn't stop him from stretching out on the floor.

 

"Wake me up if anything happens, Tsuna," he murmured, closing his eyes.  "I'm going to catch a quick nap and regain my energy."

Karu and Rasiel looked at each other before Rasiel turned into her stuffed rabbit form, turning to Karu.

"I'll go. I'm smaller in this form, so it should be easier." she said, cautiously leaving Karu.

Quickly, she hopped on the pedestal, opening the box reallly carefully before then running fast over to Karu as Karu stepped forward, Rasiel taking her demon form...

Xander released Humm's hand

 

"Goodbye, Rasiel.." He called to her, raising his hand

 

Then he met Karu's glare, trying to give him a reassuring look

 

[Don't worry, I'm staying put, Karu. Even though I wish I could go] He thought

 

"Take care of your sister, Karu.. but I guess you don't need to be told that"

 

Xander's gaze sank to the floor as the door clicked, saddened to be separated from his friends

 

[be careful..]

"Well want to go farther since the only choice that lies ahead is a door?" Yumi asked.

She walked over to the door."I'll just do it,guys stay behind in case the door closes or some'n." She kicked the door and it swung open.

She stepped close to the door and she was surprised to see....

(Just try to speed thing up. It's been dead for awhile.)

Nothing inside. The room was vast and empty. On the other side was an automatic electronic door with a red light over it, but there was nothing else in the room.

 

"The next test requires you all filter into the next room."

As Rasiel went over to the box, Xi began to explain to only Karu through his earpiece.

 

"You thought your sister's collar was the one she had previously, didn't you? It isn't. I made some modifications. Specifically a series of compact plastic explosives primed for detonation at my will. There is a backup that was ingested by her as well, as to be sure. She will not be able to shapeshift in any way to avoid being fatally injured by them if I choose to detonate them."

 

Karu stepped forward....

 

"There are two items here; the first is a button that will fill the adjacent room with fatally poisonous gas, killing everyone else who you have just seen once they enter. Pressing it is the first method to make me not activate the explosives in your sister's collar. The other..."

 

The box was opened. Inside was a lavish velvet lining, with a single loaded pistol laying softly inside.

 

"... is this. Within one minute the explosives will be activated unless, by your hand, somebody else in either of these rooms dies."

 

Through the earpeice Karu began to hear the ticking of a clock. Then Xi made his final comment.

 

"So tell me, Karu, how much do you truly love your sister?"

Fulmen's heart pounded as he stepped up to stand behind Yumi, looking over her shoulder to peer into the room before them.

"Hunh....nothing. It's really dark inside, though." Fulmen said, stepping another few inches to stand right at the edge of the door. His heart continued its frenzied pounding, with him standing there tense.

"Whelp, let's all head inside, shall we?"

The ticking in Karu's ear made his eyes widen, his palms were sweating as he stared at his sister. He could barely speak.

"R--Rasiel...Don't try changing into any other form and stay still, whatever you do--don't move...okay Rasiel-chan?" Karu said, calling his sister by a name only Rasiel would call herself.

"Karu! What's going on?! Are you okay?" she asked, worried.

Karu smiled, stepping forward he placed his hand on Rasiel's shoulder.

"Rasiel, if you were to ever die...who would stop you from your death?" Karu asked, grabbing the pistol.

"You would Karu-kun..." she said.

"Then promise me something. You will treat Xander you treat me, okay?" he said, hugging his sister.

"Why Karu?" Rasiel asked as her eyes dimmed, figuring out what her brother was about to do.

"I am saving you Rasiel." he said, holding the gun to his side, he pulled the trigger as one single bullet ripped through him.

 

The sound of a gun shot echoed through the room, most likely it could be heard in the other room to.

 

 

 

 

"KARU!!!" Rasiel yelled, as Karu dropped to his knees.

Rasiel dropped to her knees as Karu did, holding her brother in her arms.

"Rasiel....our father was found on the road dead...we had two more siblings but dad aborted them. Mom is still alive, remember that. Xi was going to blow your collar up because that collar wasn't the one I gave you. I want you to have my weapons...and....also, there is a small switch on the back of the collar and you're aloud to take it off...it will be okay...alright?" Karu said, holding Rasiel's head with his bloodied hands, kissing his sister on the top of her head. aww....incest...

"It is going to be okay." he said, handing her the pistol with Karu's blood on the handle, he fell back as his eyes when blank as he slowly closed them.

 

Karu Kasaragi was dead.

 

"K-k-Karu!!!" Rasiel yelled, tears flowing down her face. She stayed there, not taking the collar off, she was in a dazed trance.

Joshua slowly followed into the room Yumi went to. "It's dark in here...." he quietly complaint, standing slightly close to yumi. All of a sudden, he flinched at the sound of a gunshot. He.walked to.the wall of the room and could hear Rasiel. "R-Rasiel...something happened...to Karu..." he muttered. "Rasiel!" He called out to her.

 

With Ren soon gone asleep, Lira had departed without a word. She did treat Kilek as she said, but she still left. Once out of sight and far from the building, Lira sighed in her normal, sassy voice. "It's about time. Those guys sure are.boring." She spoke. "Now, from their memories....." Lira soon had spiraling blue lightning shifting through her body, causing her to transform again. Her voice changed as well.

Her appearance was that of a man's. 'He' was rather tall and quite lean. His hair was a messy and shaggy brown, two tufts of it sticking as well, like an owl's ears. His clothes were rather tight, but still looked great! With a brown cloak and an exceptionally large collar as well. And of course, the nice touch of his somewhat good-looking yellow eyes. "Heh, I feel like a man." Lira grinned. She had turned to the appearance of Sikota.

Xander slowly stepped through the door

 

"Whatever you say" He said to Xi

 

After a few moments he heard a muffled bang from the left wall

 

"What the..??!!"

 

[Was that a gunshot??!! It came from the room Karu and Rasiel went to!!]

 

Xander turned back to the door of the room he had just entered..

Neisan sat down in a corner of the shack to rest a bit. He fiddled with a piece of his armor as Lira tended to Kilek's leg. He was quite tired; the constant adrenalin was wearing down. He began to doze, and quickly fell into a deep sleep. As his eyes closed, his subconscious noticed Lira leaving the shack. "Where is she going?" he thought groggily, then his head slumped forward. A soft, muffled snore escaped from his helmet.

Rasiel heard Joshua, however stayed near to body of her brother. She stared at the wall in which she heard Josh.

"Xi......let me out of here..." she mummbled, turning to Karu's dead corpse.

(R.I.P. Kuru.)Yumi eyes widen at hearing a gun shoot. "Oh,MAI GOWD." She screamed.

"Did..someone just we shot at!" She screamed.

She fell her knee's and covered her head. "Make it go..away." She whispered.

Joshua hesitated, but quickly ran out the door he had entered. He went to the door Rasiel was in, and tried bursting it open to.no avail. His shadow gloomed over, and quickly shred open the door. "Rasiel...!" He called. He reverted his shadow and ran to Rasiel, stopped by the gruesome corpse of Karu.

The door across from the entrance in the room with Rasiel in it suddenly clicked, the red light above it turning green. The entrance door remained locked.

 

Xi's voice came into Rasiel's earpeice. "I'm sorry Rasiel. He would have preferred this to failing to protect you. Proceed to the next room when you are ready." Of all the tests, this one was the one that put some sentiment into Xi's voice. But, why?

 

In the adjacent room, where everyone was collecting, everyone's earpeices suddenly began to buzz with sound.

 

"Karu is dead. He has passed this test for you. Proceed when you are ready." The door on the other side of the empty room changed from red to green, unlocking.

 

In the center of the empty room, a pedestal rose up. On top of it was a glass case, inside was a newspaper clipping. A smiling teenage boy was on the front. A headline read "Orphaned boy found shot in Chicago slum." The parts of the article that had not been cut out explained how the boy was named Phillip Yaerick, how he was at the time believed to be living with his older brother Thomas, and how the murder was said to have been perpetrated by an unknown person or persons, and that no suspects were yet considered.

 

"Life can be so quickly stolen, can't it?"

 

The last thing the article said was how the boy was suspected of criminal activity and was known for urban rumors suggesting he has some sort of super-human ability. The article suggested that although his name was Phillip, he was known to the community as Fi.

 

Xi watched Rasiel through the camera. She was feeling unexpressible pain, something very few people could attest to ever have felt.

 

Xi was one of the few.

Humm flew to Rasiel's side (yeah he's disobedient like that) "No..." He muttered. "I'm too late." He punched the ground, placing cracks in the floor with strength surprising for his size. "I'm sorry Rasiel... There could've been some way I could have helped. I... I'm going to do whatever I can for you from this point forward. That's my promise in his name."

Embers fell from the shadowy figure's eyes. "LET ME MOVE ALREADY!!" He demanded of the ethereal force tying him to that spot. He was unable to help, it was the worst hell he could have gone through.

Rasiel stayed silent, grabbing Karu's jacket that was bloodied on the side, she put it on. His orbs of metal were in the pockets.

"It isn't your fault. It is Xi's fault." she said, still not standing up.

"Karu killed himself." Rasiel stated.

Humm stepped back, there was nothing he could say. He had just met Karu, he hadn't grown up with him. As soon as he made the promise to protect, he failed. Karu killed himself she said. Why couldn't have Humm sacrificed himself instead!? He needed to redeem himself. He would die before he'd let Rasiel suffer through anymore pain. He was her servant. Until his debt could be repaid.

Robert stood in the shadows watching as the others started to mourn Karu's death. [so Karu's the first of us to go huh? I just hope that he's the last.] He wanted talk to Ransiel and give her words of confort, but he didn't know what to say. He then walked over to the glass case, and read the article. [What does it mean?] he wondered, and looked at the others again. [i'll give them some time to mourn before I suggest that we move on.]

Xander turned back when he heard Yumi fall to her knees. He shot a quick glance at Fulmen, then darted out of the door
 
He came to the door Karu and Rasiel had entered, or what was left of it
 
Just as he had walked into the room, he froze
 
There was Karu lying on the floor, blood on his shirt, and a gun lying on the ground

He walked behind Rasiel, tears beginning to fill his eyes as he dropped to his knees
