I don't know if any of you saw this already, but things I've noticed here did raise some serious questions

I always knew that Final Fantasy was anti-religion, but I never thought Kingdom Hearts was. To me, Kingdom Hearts seems like a religious game. "Light within Darkness", What do you think?

Never really seemed for or against it to me but I guess it could be.

I don't think it's anti-religion so much as it is anti-institution. A major recurring theme in Final Fantasy is taking down a power structure and promoting individualism, so in the case of things like Yevon, it's not so much that it's a religion so much as it happens to be in a position of power, and is abusing said power.

The theme of spirituality is actually presented in a very positive light, for the most part. If anything, the religious aspect seems to be the thing that falls victim to villainous forces. The Ancients who protect the planet are destroyed by Jenova, the Espers are made victim of technology and corruption, etc.

What's religous about KH???? Light and Darkness is pretty much Good Vs Evil.

Other than Olympus Coliseum, have you heard the words: Heaven, hell, goddess or gods or a church or anything like that????

No,while in most FF games, you either fighting Sephiroth who wants to become a god and avenge Jenova,Beating the Fal'cie the demigods of Cocoon,or fighting evil gods tricking a civilization.

None of this exist in KH

I realize that Final Fantasy is more upfront about it, but Kingdom Hearts has all of the same central themes about hope and friendship that the bible talks about. And these underlinning themes make me feel that it's a little religious. I realize everyone is intittled to their opinion, but maybe since i'm a christian that's what I relate it to.

Dude, hope and friendship are mentioned in other things not only in the Bible.

Nothing religious in KH unlike FF which rehash the plot of:Evil gods, someone who wants to become a god and kill everything......

The use of gods in games is getting really really repititive and old.

i personnly think that there is hints here and there but playing ff isnt gunnna make me trun from God or anything. (ima russian orthadox btw not to start any fights just felt like putting tht out there

I'm a Christian and I've never felt these were the least bit anti-religion.....even the Bible talks about evil/false gods

I don't say that FF tells you to disobey God,I'm a muslim(Yeah I'm a muslim and I'm not a terrorist) and my faith in God is absolute so I'm not offended by games that has gods.

But the fact that they're using the same plot element of gods over & over & over again and everytime they're the enemies is just overdoing it and it makes the plot of many RPGs repititive and boring when no one tries something different Unlike Kingdom Hearts and Pokemon which both has unique plots that didn't need a divine symbol to be good....yeah Pokemon's plot is simple but I still like it and it's simplicity is part of it's charm

Why would you being a Muslim make me think you're a terrorist? No one I know even thinks that way....

Sorry..it's just I'm pissed off that some people in the west think we're terrorist because that asshole Bin Laden blew up the towers with an action that has nothing to do with Islam whatsoever

That's the minority of the country...most people have no problems with Muslims over here

It's interesting that X has a lot of parallels to Christianity (you know, with the main villain being named "sin"). Then one god--Yevon, being evil and all that. But as a Christian, I can say I really don't care that they have a lot of Christian parallels and an evil god. Stories always have some higher being being evil, so they're bound to have gods as villains every now and then. The games aren't a critique on religion itself; I think in X it's a critique of ignorance. Not all people who believe in a god are ignorant, despite what many people seem to think. X could critique religious systems too, but it's not a direct attack on Christianity for me. It's an attack on Yevon. X is its own universe--it doesn't have to line up with reality.

By the way, I didn't watch the video. Just sayin' my thoughts.

In Final Fantasy IV they pray that Cecil and the rest will survive, FF IV also has the whole Kain and Abel   Cecil thing, and some of the places in FF III are named after the bible, one of them is where Jospeh and his brothers grew up, and in FF IV you also destory the Tower of Babel, something which God hated.

The bible warns you of false gods and that's what Jenova, Sephiroth and Kefka are. Yevon was a false god too and lead everybody astray. Every Sunday School we get warnings to read the bible after lessons, because somebody who may look like he's in the path of light, could be actually be he's in the path of darkness, trying to lead us away from the true God and into Satan.

Kefka and Sephiroth are like that, false gods, that lead people into the wrong path or into Satan's path, or in FF X's case death in vain.

So, I don't think so. But I think that they made it so subtle that it could be up to debate or you could choose to believe that FF was anti- God or Pro- God. This guy believes in the anti- God path.

I think that FF is more pro- choice, wake up and be aware of who you're following, kind of thing.  :)

Meh. Any game could be seen as being anti religious. It just comes with the territory of making a story.

As far as Final Fantasu goes, I always thought X was a commentary on religion. With Yu Yevon and a corrupt church... I was 11 and I thought that.

The reason that the ascension plotline gets used so much is because it works pretty well. If you can accept that a God would be the ultimate source of power in the universe, the idea that this power would be given to someone with malicious intent is pretty terrifying. It's pushing the stakes to the highest perimiter: not only is your physical being obviously threatened, but the idea that the very existence of the world revolves around a villain means that the heroes absolutely have to defeat him: it's not just life at stake, but the after life and possibly reality itself.

The reason a cliche becomes a cliche is because it works well enough to be used again.

Look at Soul of Rebirth in Final Fantasy II, in which The Emperor ACTS LIKE AN ANGEL and INSISTS he's changed and is now 'holy'. Naturally he's defeated and proven false.
