I need advice about my PS3 super slim

Posted

Alright, I got a PS3 super slim late December, and I just recently actually brought it to my college to play God of War III. So, because I wanted something to keep it in, I brought a side-bag that my sister doesn't use anymore, which it fits in nicely. I don't have a TV in my own dorm room, so my playing games consists of bringing the ps3 out to the lounge and playing it there.

So my question is: is it safe to put the PS3 back into the sidebag right after I finish playing? Because I notice that my PS3 gets very warm when I play for a couple hours or so. I mean, not burn-your-hand warm, but still very warm so that it's a bit concerning. So, should I wait until it cools down first, or is it fine to put back in right away? Also, is it normal for a super-slim to get that warm that quickly?

One other thing- I've noticed some slow load times with GoW III, and recently, Portal 2. I don't remember how the load times were when I had last played Portal2, (since the other day was the first time I had played it in a while) but I'm worried that the PS3 is not working as well or something. And, I'd really like to be able to play 1.5 ReMIX without ridiculous load times.

So, anybody got advice for me here?

i bring my ps3 to my friends all the time and when i go its still warm and i've never had any problems

Well, so long as it's not activately generating heat, I don't imagine that you'll have to much of a problem. Once it's off, the heat dissipates very quickly. I would maybe give it like a minute to breathe and then you should be good.

But, if you don't want to risk it, then just give it five minutes or so and you'll definitely be fine.

As for your load times, I see no reason why they would suddenly increase. Perhaps you've gotten to a point in GOW III where the environments are larger, and thusly the load times are longer due to the game. Portal 2 doesn't have terribly long load times, but they can go on. So I don't think you have a problem there.

The slow loading times might be associated with the game disc, not the PS3 itself.

Small heating is nothing weird, you can try out my lap top it heats up so much that it really burns your hands but still no problem carrying it around ;)

Loading times change in GoW 3 a lot, depending on the scene. Going around in smaller rooms = shorter loading times, big areas with epic scenes and enemies = longer loading times.

And as ProwerPowah said, there may be something on the discs. And you shouldn't worry about loading times in KH 1.5 HD ReMIX because it is a HD remaster and usually those don't take too much from PS3 to handle just fine.

KH 1.5 will inevitably have slow loading times due to the higher quality material the machine has to load from the disc unfortunately, though these are usually less than 30 seconds (which while you're sitting there waiting feels like ages but really isn't) so I can live with that

I never bring my PS3 anywhere but if you're worried about over heating problems, I'd turn it off and let it cool down for a few minutes before packing it away.

Alright guys, thanks for the advice. That's one less small thing to worry about.

The Super Slim was designed and produced cheaply. No surprise if you're having issues like that.

Make sure your ps3 was placed in a more open air instead of somewhere closed. Keep your ps3 in the bag when you're done playing and keep the bag in a cooled place.
