What would you rate DDD, as a whole?

Posted

On a scale of 1 - 10, what would you rate DDD.

As my first KH game, my opinion may be a little biased. But it completely BLEW ME AWAY. The depthful story, the developed and interesting characters, and the astounding gameplay all satisfied me like very few games have done for me before. But, like other games, it has a couple flaws.

The things that really dissapointed me were:

1. The game was too short. Most KH games have more than 7 worlds, and have ALOT of extra content to do after the final boss, but DDD lacked that.

2. There was only one Extra boss. Most KH games have like 2 or 3, but this game had only 1. Being able to refight stronger versions of the previous bosses didn't satisfy me at all.

But, those things aside, I loved DDD. I give it a 9.

It was kind of kiddie; however, my coro coro passion burned oh so brightly to being able to play with and breed cute adorable creatures!

*☐* Long life my passion for Coro Coro type Anime/Manga/Video Games!!!

sorry...

I gave it a 7.

It felt waaay too short...and it didn't really sit well with me. No matter what, it just didn't 'feel' like a Kingdom Hearts game. There was so little to do beyond the main quest--and the world felt so empty.

Beyond that, it played well and the Dream Eaters are certainly a cool version of enemies/companions.

It gets a 3. And it's only getting that high of a score because, in retrospect, I enjoyed the development of Riku's character.

Aside from that, it did everything in its power to make me mad.

Legitimately, I hated that game.  Seriously.  It lacked SO much.  The maps were so freaking empty that I honestly didn't care I could make it "3D", because you know, that's so cool, apparently.  The only moment I enjoyed in that game was when Riku remembered Terra.  And what ruined that moment, is that that particular scene occurred during a boss battle that we couldn't replay.  Honestly, what the heck was up with that?  We can fight all the other bosses that were mediocre at best, but we couldn't fight Ansem again?  There were so many ways that game could've gone right, but it just didn't.

While I think it is a fun game, with new interesting mechanics (the DEs, fighting an enemy you can put on your team), great graphics for a handheld system, and that it finally brought all the games together and got the story ready to dive into KH3, I still think there's a number of flaws or set backs.

  • Like the amount of time it takes to raise your spirits affinity level is ridiculous, the DE menu and interactions were interesting at first but when you're past 6 DEs and still have to do all the petting, poking, right place, balloons, barrels, treasure, feeding, it just gets really boring.  That's the whole reason I don't play nintendo dogs.
  • the overpowered capabilities of Flowmotion,
  • how mentally regressive Sora was made to make Riku look more collected and clever,
  • the large empty areas (I understand they didn't include NPCs 'cause the system but really, they were so vastly empty and large),
  • I didn't like the range of keyblades (there were so many other benefits you would have got in previous games, in this it every keyblade was just *critical hits boost *reality shift trigger *Something else to do with hits/reach.  I wanted treasure magnet and increased treasure drops for when I'm collecting items).
  • By the time it takes to actually get all the items and everything on your first play through (Proud in my case) you're generally really overpowered at the end, making the end bosses ridiculously cheap.  The time it's taken me to complete all the portals, ace all the dives, get all the treasures (that was the quickest), collect Dream pieces, etc (optional stuff in the game) I am grossly overpowered (85+ or something), and can kill a swarm of enemies in one X command.  By the time I get to this point in any game I get really bored.  I've been feeling this way since 40+.
  • Riku has no secret portal in SoS or else it was CoM, I forget which, but I wanted it, and they didn't give me it.
  • A lot of the story was rushed, you skipped through worlds feeling no progress with your characters story and then had a shitload of information thrown at you at the end.  Needs better pacing.
  • The 3D effect really means nothing to me.  I used it sparingly since I thought "it's a 3D game, I should during cutscenes and stuff?" and didn't use it often.
  • The forecast gets annoying, near having portals complete, but the only ones available in the forecast are ones you've already completed for multiple drops.
  • I would have rather had it where you dropped at specific points so you didn't end up ages ahead in one story, doing stuff, that the other person would have had to set up before, yet you're doing their part after since you don't know when exactly you should drop to have a chronological story.

8, mostly for the string of awesome bosses towards the end.

Cons:

As said above, the variety of Keyblades really disappointed me, if for no other reason than for looks.

The reality shifts are all lame in my opinion, save a couple which were kind of cool the first few times you used it.

Linking with your Spirits seem overpowered with Sora, and underpowered with Riku, even though, in my opinion, Riku's looked cooler.

Some of the worlds were shallow, meaning I didn't really get into the storyline on them. They were kind of boring and over quick, leaving a sense of disappointment in me.

Pros:

The flow motion is awesome. Although a little over powered, if used in moderation and strategically, it can take the battle system to a whole new level of awesomeness.

Playing as both Sora and Riku felt really nice without a card system.

The DE's variety was very fun to me. Choosing that perfect party of DE's for a specific command deck build is enjoyable.

This game really surpassed my expectations on visuals. It looks amazing, and (i'm pretty sure) all the cutscenes are voiced.

The main story had it's confusing moments, but otherwise it was another very satisfying storyline.

Overall, it's not one of my favorite KH's, but it did have a lot of great features that I think will carry on nicely for future games.

You asked for a rating, I gave you a half-ass review. Unnesassary, but whatever. I felt like it. :)

7. I enjoyed the game, but there were some things didnt feel right to me.

I rate this game a 9. I know that the story is a little rushed, but I actually enjoyed the gameplay and the plot's complexity.

Gameplay:

The commands in this game are more flexible than in Birth by Sleep. For example, you can preform Sonic Blade and Ars Arcanum in mid air. The flowmotion can get overpowered, but it is enjoyable if you use it in moderation. The dream eaters are make great allies since they grant specific commands and different abilities. The noticeable flaw for me is the drop system. I think that the game should have given the characters a longer playing time.

Plot:

The plot of this game is a little complex. It can be a problem for someone who has not really played Kingdom Hearts that much. But I actually like the overall plot. The plot demonstrates the development of Riku's character and the imperfections of Sora's actions. The Disney world portion of the game was confusing for me since Sora and Riku were in different places. Despite the short length, the storylines of each Disney world stayed true to the movies. What I like most about the plot is its climax. I will not reveal anything, but I can say that the final stages of the game are shocking and exciting.

Overall Dream Drop Distance is one of my favorite Kingdom Hearts game. It's definately my favorite bridge game, and I'm glad I have pruchased it!
