Everybody says Sora received Riku's Keyblade because Riku gave in to the darkness. That doesn't make sense!

terra chose riku but he gave in to the darkness so the keyblade chose the next person on the list

The Keyblade Sora received at the beginning of Kingdom Hearts belonged to Riku, but when Riku got sucked up by the darkness, it went to Sora instead. Sora was able to wield it from then on because of Ventus's heart being inside him. Later in KH1, Riku reclaimed his Keyblade from Sora, but it soon went back to Sora, for he proved himself he was worthy of the Keyblade with his Heart and his connections to his friends. 

tetsuya nomura said sora was always destined to wield a keyblade, so i assume the reason behind it has yet to be revieled.

 

but i know that the keyblade first reveals itself when its possesor is faced with great darkness/light depending of course

I doubt it actually had anything to do with riku, seems unlikely atm.

It's because Riku's heart wasn't worthy anymore. So it chose the next heart worthy of wielding it. It had nothing to do with Ven.

The Keyblade chooses a person with a strong heart not pure light. Master Xehanort and Terra used the darkness, why didn't they lose theirs? Sora received his because he needed to protect his friends on the island, Riku got his at the time because he was trying to protect Kairi. Sora was connected to Ventus too who was asking Sora to be his friend and he wanted to help him as well. Besides, Lea receives a Keyblade too. He had a strong enough heart to retain his form when he became a Heartless and Nobody, which is how he got his when he came back.

Riku inherited the keyblade because Terra performed the Inheritance Ceremony on him.  When Riku's heart fell into the darkness at the start of KH1 the keyblade sought the nearest being of light, which happened to be Sora, to be it's wielder.  That's why Riku could take it off him later on, because at that point his heart had become the strongest of the two.  Sora fought for his friends and ultimately his heart was the strongest where the blade choose him again, making him a wielder chosen by the keyblade.  However Aqua intended to carry out the ceremony on Sora when he was little, but could sense Terra has performed it on Riku already, and she didn't want to cause a rivalry between the boys.  When Riku overcome the darkness that consumed him and mastered its power for his friends he gained his own keyblade again.

You could say since he succumbed to the darkness he was being weak. So his heart was strong enough anymore.

Both Riku and Sora's keyblade are keyblades of light. He doesn't have Terra's keyblade because they aren't the same keyblade.

Yeah I know, I saw that somewhere and it didn't make sense. Besides Riku keeps using the Keyblade even though Sora has it, so they both got the Keyblade. It just SHOWS Sora getting it because he's the main character

The reason is because of the many hearts that are connected to Sora that are capable of wielding a Keyblade. Terra Aqua Ventus and even Riku and Kairi affect Sora's power and ability in the same way that they affect each other.

It chose Sora because his own heart is strong. Not because of everyone else. He says his friends are his power. But that means that they keep him going and that's what he fights for.

yes but that would require soras keyblade to be unique which we dont know if it is yet.

The ceremony is one of the ways someone can get a keyblade. But the keyblade doesn't have to go along with it. The keyblade was going to go to Riku. But while it was headed his way, it deemed Sora more worthy of it's power.

The keyblade ceremony doesn't necessarily guarantee the person a keyblade- the keyblade must also judge ones heart worthy and then choose that person . Also wielder and master are two distinct titles .Nomura has stated that Sora is the only wielder to not have received the keyblade ceremony - thats unique in itself.

Yeah. If the ceremony guaranteed that person would get a keyblade then they would get it right there and then.

ahhh okay, i must have missed something thanks guys you really cleared things up that ws bugging me for a while now

so was this revealed in 3d or an interview because i havent played 3 and its easy to miss an interview. i know 1 had something along those lines but i was just never sure if it was the case thanks again~
