Why can't some FF fans just get over the fact that the new FF titles won't go back to how they used to be in terms of gameplay?

Posted

I mean seriously.

Alot of FF fans loved the earlier games like VII and VI, and since the new titles aren't close to being like those games, they UTTERLY HATE THE NEW TITLES. Im sure a big part of the FF fanbase who can't get over that fact are part of the people who hate XIII just for that reason.

They need to realize the series will keep changing and will probably not go back to how it used to be, otherwise they're just gonna be dissapointed with the newer titles and end up hating the whole series all together. Seriously.

Because a lot of them only played VII/VIII/X and refuse to play anything that isn't those three

Well, there's a point where there's too much change, so I can kinda see the reasoning of the people that don't like the changes. Of course, the FF fanbase overreacts to just about anything really. Just because it's different doesn't mean it's not bad. I and IV were incredibly different, yet a lot of people welcomed the ATB. I guess people grew too attached to the old style of gameplay. I definitely think that a game needs to change things up though, otherwise it gets stale.

Except TWEWY the gameplay in that is perfect. I'd still be fine with any positive changes to that though. :P

But still the new gameplay is good. Like in XIII and LR FF XIII, the gameplay for those games are great, but they still prefer the "OLD GAMEPLAY". Hmph. Oh well, they're missing out big time. Too bad so sad for them. xD

I personally haven't really had much interest in the main series past X (Except for XV which looks amazing), but I've loved the spin-offs (Crisis Core coughcough). I'll still try to see if I can rent XIII-2 at some point to try that one out though.

XIII-2 and Lightning Returns are good.

To be honest, after X, i didnt like any FF titles past that until XIII came along and was amazing. Now thanks to XIII and now XV, im getting more interested in the series again. But XI and XII i thought were pretty bad honestly.

I don't care if it's new as long as it's fun to play.

Unlike the FF fanbase and the Sonic fanbase who wants everything to be an exact copy of what was in the 90's

Who thought that the two worst fanbases in history can marry each other ??^_^

I completely agreed. If its fun to play and new, i don't care. Ill love the game.

12 was just awful, the story for some reason decided that the main character should be someone who do absolutely nothing(a.k.a Vaan)

And the battle system is overcomplicated more than nessessary

everything that 12 did wrong,Xenoblade has done it absolutely right

I hated the battle system of XIII, which left me stuck on a boss and stuff so I gave up trying the game.

But hearing how Lightning Return's has a better combat system that allows me to move around, block, and stuff I'm more used to, and to a better extent, am more comfortable with, I pre-ordered it.

I'm coming in hoping Square fufills my hopes.

Why did you hate the battle system of XIII? Its more or less like the battle systems from the earlier title, with the ATB gauge having to fill up to let you do commands. The only real differences are you can do more the one command at a time, use the TP gauge to summon and do special moves, and use paradigms to let you do certain move sets(like Sentinel for defensive moves, and Medic for healing).

And trust me, Lightning Returns will not leave you dissapointed. If you want to know more aobut the story though, you hsould just watch the cutscenes for both games on youtube.

And i recommend getting FF XIII-2. Its SOOOOOOOO MUCH EASIER. Trust me, its nothing compared to XIII, its worlds better.

I'm used to KH, Skyrim, Fable.

I want to jump out of the way, block, roll. Not turn based.

Seriously. If I really wanted to sit there and act like a punching bag, I'd grab Pokemon >.>

Also, XIII was my first FF game. Ever.

I dont dislike XIII because its different, I just litterally dont like it. FFXII battle system was nothing like previous games, but I didnt mind it. But the battle system for XIII was actually "MADE FOR RETARDS". You dont need any skill whatsoever. It wasnt just bad compared to other FF's, it was just a bad game, and a poor RPG. I have accepted that FF will never be the same, and allthough it makes me sad to think that I will never see that old gameplay again, it doesnt mean I wont enjoy the new titles. Xii, XIII and XV have gone a whole different direction, but I honestly really dislike the direction FFXIII went. I dont hate XIII because it was different, I hate it because it was a bad game.

ugh...FF why can't you just be satisfied?!?!? i mean i know i am

Wait a second, there are people who don't like FFXV's awesome sction gameplay system? Smack them one extra time for me please.

XII is my least favorite game I've ever played honestly.  <_< Kinda interested in XI, but monthly fees, and the price shot up recently.

Oh ok then. I understand. You just don't like turn based games like Oishii, you prefer Action RPG's. Got it. :)

I understand with XIII that you can just spam Auto battle, and that makes it "Made for RETARDS", but other then that, its pretty much LIKE ANY OTHER RPG. You CAN IGNORE THAT BUTTON AND ACTUALLY CHOOSE WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IN BATTLE YOU KNOW. If you want to continue to use Auto Battle and ignore the fact you can choose your own moves, fine. Then you'll always think its gameplay is shit. If you ignore the Auto battle, you can choose what you want to do each turn, like any other turn based JRPG, and let the battle unfold. But you act like THAT ISN'T EVEN AN OPTION. If that is your version of "MADE FOR RETARDS" then i can't believe you liked ANY of the FF games aside from the ones taht are Action RPG based. Seriously.  :|

But, that aside, i think maybe you might like Lightning Returns anyway. They ditched the gameplay from XIII and XIII-2, and made it Action RPG Based, and its harder now. They chose the better direction this time, at least i think so.

Personally i'm glad it's changing, i'm glad FF15 isn't turn based, the series needs to change in order to not get stale, i started with 7 and while the older games are great i'm glad it's changing

Wait a second, there are people who don't like FFXV's awesome sction gameplay system? Smack them one extra time for me please.

They're mainly the "Hard core" fans who are scared of change

They need 8-bit graphics and classic rpg gameplay... Jk. But seriouslu, these people are annoying.

Its just FF fans who hate the games that are different. I cant wait to play it :)

Actually mainly what made it stupid was the fact that you couldnt expand your character how you wanted and the lack of battle creativity. By this the game decided everything for you, and you ended up with a lvling system where you had next to no freedom. The remark about retards wasnt just referring to the auto-battle but pretty much everything that came into the deciding factor. Coming from older FF games, XIII made me feel like I was stupid and the game had to take care of most things. It was not an enjoyable experience.

Because a lot of gamers are blinded by Nostalgia. I must say that Final Fantasy has expanded my horizontals. FFVII was my first game, and the game that got me into the series. Every time a new ff game comes out, I expand my tastes and horizons, because I understand that Final Fantasy is SUPPOSED to change with every title.

The fact that every title is different is one of the reasons this franchise is so successful.

However, many people have a certain vision of what final fantasy "should" be like and when a new game comes out, they're are disappointed because they feel like it is nothing like their favorite ff.

Nostalgia is a very powerful thing.
