We know just about jack about how the games and the consoles will turn out and how developers will work their magic. We'll just have to wait and see like everyone else but no expectations are the best expectations.

The problem isn't a lack of potential, it's the developers' mindset that prettier=better.  They won't take advantage of its awesome capabilities because they think all they have to do is make it look realistic and boom, instant profit.  Even so, there are many current hyper-popular games that look good and play good, so it's not like there aren't any games that haven't taken advantage of the new hardware.  It's just a shortage of developers who are doing so that's the problem.

I have seen lots of people complaining that with the next-gen of consoles coming, all we will have in games is better graphics. I just thought it would be good to put out there that with better technology and game engines, we can do a lot better then just better graphics. We can have bigger worlds, that are more detailed and interactive. More games will run in 1080p, and most games that dont will be so the game can run at 60fps. The possibilities are limitless, not just with graphics but also with gameplay. Its silly to think games wont get better but just look better

Problem is,most developers don't use those engines to expand their games.

They use it for overglorified over dramatic cutscenes that fills almost 10 hours of the game

Exactly

This is one of the many reasons why I prefer Nintendo, they put more effort into what truly matters instead of making it look pretty.

Graphics don't mean a damn if the physics and gameplay are broken.

True. Although the Wii did have lots of dud games, there Nintendo games were fun as hell. Couldnt of cared less about the graphics on those games.

.I enjoyed a lot of the Wii's game. I don't really play too many 3rd party games, so I pretty much only have their spectacular first party ones. People don't give Nintendo enough credit. Seriously, most of its hate stems from the lower resolution graphics... -_-

This,gameplay is king.

And that's why Mario's the king of gaming.

Well, it's never too late to get into them, if you're interested that is. If it's JRPGs you're after, there are a few Mario RPG games that can be really fun, like Paper Mario or the Mario & Luigi saga.

I'm looking to get into them but since I don't live in america and games aren't cheap as they are over there I am able to probably get a game every 3-5 months(kinda long story)and their are alot of great rpgs on 3ds for me to still get so.....

Gameplay is always the main component of a game that should be worked on the most. It's pretty much common sense and fact. However, there's a standard you have to meet when it comes to graphics. It's 2013; we can't have a game coming out with 8 bits or looking like it was shoveled out from a last-gen perspective. *coughDukeNukemForever* As long as it's decent, though, I could care less about judging the game itself just because it doesn't look like a Pixar movie.

Oh, that sucks. I kinda know the feeling, I don't have a job and barely make any allowance money, so I don't get games often.

I know what you're saying, but some games can still do well with lower level graphics. I still play and enjoy a lot of old games even today, and some more recent games have made even 2D spriting work. Yeah, huge companies don't have the excuse to be lazy, but there's no need to overdo it, and not all developers can afford next-gen graphics.

Of course old games get a pass because they're old. They're not up to today's standards and they never can. And again, I'm not asking that every game look super special awesome: if a game has a budget to work off, that's understandable. Still, lots and lots of effort should at least be put in  so to not make it look like crap. Simplicity can be beautiful too. It just takes some hard work and a little elbow grease.

I'd still rather see gameplay/story over graphics, but yeah, I understand what you're saying. There's a certain amount of effort that should be put into games for every department (Except for multiplayer, since not every game out there NEEDS that). The issue here is that a lot of companies are too busy with the graphics to actually care about gameplay/story.

Also, this is kinda off-topic, but I get the idea that the way most people view graphics (No pun intended) is the way I view music. It doesn't effect the game overall, but I fanboy over a LOT of game music.

My tv isnt even in color, so graphics means nothing to me. Gameplay is all that matters.
