The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

 

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

 

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

 

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

 

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar.  Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

 

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

 

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

"Maybe I could find a map, or something of that sort..." She mused as she walked up to the rusting heap of metal. "These hinges are so rusted i could probably just knock down the door....", she peaked inside through a hole looking around the interior. "Huh? What is that?" Her eye was caught by something glimmering in the sunlight that streamed through the cracks in the ship. Samantha decided not to bother with the door and slipped through the rusty hole.

Alexander nodded. "Right." He said, wincing some more. His throat was clearing up-- but still it hurt when he spoke.

He leapt through the portal, almost surprised that he came back out in one whole piece. "I...ergh...will have to...figure out..how that..works." He croaked, coughing a few times. He looked around. The tanks were getting closer...

Seraphim shot up with a scream. She started thrashing, and one could finally see a poor traumatized crab scurry away from her leg. The girl panted, looking around.

"Where am I? Wh-what's going on?"

She looked around, seeing the people, the beach. she looked down. Her stomach exposed, she was in her exact outfit she wore when she had arrived at the lab. How peculiar. Sera pressed her flat dancer's belly, then pinched herself.

Yep, awake.

She looked around, confused. "Wh...where are we?"

At the airstrip the tanks continued to close in, until they all immediately stopped and adjusted their aim for the bunker. Within a moment it was being shelled from several directions.

 

Come on, now, prove to me why you're worthy of being alive.

In the jungle the incoming group of tanks all stopped on a dime. They didn't move a bit. Just as soon as they had begun to encroach on the cabin in the jungle they halted.

 

In the next moment a figure darted from the tree branches and landed next to the group of people at the cabin. It looked to be a young boy, no older than 14 or so. His hair was a strangely natural green, and his face was slightly freckled. He was smiling.

 

"Good reaction time!"

A voice suddenly sounded out behind Seraphim:

 

"You're in the future, my friend." It was a mature female voice.

 

The glint from within the ship in front of Samantha suddenly began to move and then shot out from the decaying wreck and into the hands of a long haired red-head who stood behind Seraphim. She wore grey pants and a matching grey jacket. She didn't seem to be smiling but a smirk momentarily escaped her.

 

The glint suddenly revealed itself as an unknown coin, which she moved around in her hand. She looked up towards the beach group.

 

"Nice to make your acquaintance, if you would be so kind as to introduce yourselves."

Rin inched behind Koizumi upon the arrival of a new person.

"You almost killed us how can you be so happy?" she asked, looking at the boy.

"What kind of phrase is 'Good reaction time' in the first place?" Rin said rather rudely, taking her attention off the boy. 

The boy looked at Rin oddly for a few minutes and then started laughing.

 

"You want me to say that you had bad reaction time? C'mon, you didn't do that good anyway. Plus, why do you think I was the one who sent these tanks? I just stopped 'em! Don't I get an introduction for that?"

"Crap!" Ferro yelled as the first shell hit the bunker. "Well, get used to it now, because we're doing it again!" Ferro fired two portals in rapid succession, grabbed the man, and lept through. He left the sleeping one in the bunker. It should stand for now. Ferro and the man now stood on top of the second bunker, the one that was not being shelled. "Here's the plan. I am going to fire a portal near that tank, and one right below us. We will leap off the bunker, through the portal, and our momentum will propel us on top of the tank. We get inside, and then you prove your sidearm worthy. Then we get the hell away from it before it explodes. Got that?"

Samantha turned around, "shes not one of the people on the beach thats for sure....". She thought to herself looking her over. "And who might you be?" Sam asked the strange women, after a moment of observation she realized she had no idea what type of currency the coin was. "Is it possible... that it worked?" Shaking the idea from her head, she looked around the decrepit boat.  "If we are the future... why is this here?" Sam wondered silently before looking back over at the strange women. Something seemed off about her, she didn't like it.

"Seraphim...Valentine." she said. "Who are you?"

She then looked to the others. Two men and a woman. "And who are you guys?"

Henko rubbed his forehead. "That hurt." He complained. Brutality activated and his right arm was covered by a heavy mechanical fist. "This'll teach you!" He shouted punching the tank that he had run into, a number of small rockets detonating on impact had sent the machine flying in a flurry of fire.

Brutality retracted and was replaced with Grace on both arms. Henko could here the other tanks. He smiled. "Such a nuisance."

Rodin stopped, stood up and looked to the other awaked woman.  He says to her:  "Apparently we are on a beach.  But if we're supposed to be in the future, we should be in a lab right?"  Rodin turns around and sees an unfamiliar woman standing.  Asking for his name, Rodin scratches the back of his head and replies:  "I'm Rodin Seefull.  Just a guy interested in the future, but confused on why we're here."

Alex nodded. A quick glance proved his companion right-- the jump would certainly propel them to their destination. The velocity and direction...it should work. They may feel some pain and scufffs; but the plan will work.

"Right. I..am not too certain on the side arm-- I am not proficient with guns. But, I am certain it will serve us well."

The rumbling stopped and Koizumi watched as a boy came into view and Rin going behind her. Nothing was still making sense to her. She raised an eyebrow in curiosity and looked at the boy up and down. "What is a brat like you even doing here with these tanks. Who are you?" she asked. Koizumi should have reworded her words a bit nicer since she didn't know what that kid was capable of if this kid was actually the owner of those tanks. Koizumi frowned in annoyance.

"Great! Jump through after me. And just fire that thing at whatever is in the tank. You literally can't miss." With that, Ferro leap through the portal, catapulted through the air, and landed effortlessly on top of one of the tanks. He grabbed the hatch with his D-ppendage and ripped it off. Inside the tank was. . .

The woman smirked.

 

"Very well, it will be very useful to know your names. I'm glad to see you are all co-operative. I know you have many questions. They will be answered soon. But before you gain very precious information, I must know if you are as competent as you co-operative."

 

She slipped the coin in her hand and caught it. As she opened her hand again and looked at the coin she smiled.

 

"Tails. I was hoping it would be tails. That means you get to be tested by..."

 

A huge roar ripped through the serenity of the beach, and the ocean before them began to get more and more rough. Suddenly emerging from the water came around 15 or so creatures. They looked like centaurs of old mythology, but they seemed to be entirely robotic. They were each armed with a spear in one and and laser cannon on the other. Five of them immediately converged on Sam, her being the closest. The other ten began to rush for the rest of the group. The mysterious woman waved her hand tersely and in all of the humans' hands appeared strange weapons.

"I have examined your personalities and skills and deemed these weapons your best chance at survival. You will want to get straight to using them, the test has already begun."

 

The metallic centaurs raced towards the group...

Deep within the jungle the boy looked around at the group. He furrowed his brow at Koizumi's comment.

 

"Brat!?!"

 

Without the treads moving a bit, all the tanks suddenly shifted their barrels to Koizumi.

 

"At least I'm a powerful brat!" With this comment he burst into laughter. "I'm just jokin' with ya! Don't look so weird at me!"

 

He jumped into the air and quickly and then transitioned to a roll, landing in front of Koizumi, his hand outstretched, his green hair warmed in the light coming through the trees.

 

"I'm Veridyan, and I'm the reason you guys even gotten woken up!"

He grabbed the hatch with his D-ppendage and ripped it off. Inside the tank was. . .

 

...two blue eyes looking back at him. The face was a young man's. He was dressed oddly- with jeans, a grey button-up shirt complimented with a blue vest. He wore black gloves. He was smiling...

 

"Hi."

"Test?" Rodin says in a confused tone.  He looks past the woman and sees robot centaurs charging towards the group?  Rodin looks at his right hand and finds a red glowing broadsword laying in it.  Even more confused, he says:  "What?  How did this get here?"  Seeing the centaurs coming closer, he says:  "Better not worry about for now.  Time for action!" 

 

Holding the sword with both hands, Rodin dashes and slashes down on one of the robots.  Stumbling a bit from raising the sword up again, he thinks:  A little heavier than I thought.  Rodin looks on the sword and spots a button with a gun symbol.  Curious, he presses it and the sword shifts into a blaster.  Smiling a bit, he says:  "This is something else."  Rodin fires four shots at two other centaurs, keeping distance between them.

'Ugh' Rija thought to herself, regaining consciousness. She opened her eyes and realized a man was holding her. Rija's instinct kicked into gear, and began to treat this man as an enemy. She grabbed the man's torso with her arm, and swung out of his arms and onto his back. She tried her best to use her weight to make him fall to the ground. "Who are you? Where am I?" The former soldier yelled at the man. Then she looked around her, seeing the tanks, the jungle, and the three other people here. Her memories flooded back, but not all of them. Last thing she remembered was passing out from blood loss on the helicopter to Washington DC. "What in the world happened to me?" She muttered, not meaning for anyone else to hear.

Koizumi barely flinched at the barrels sudden movement being pointed towards, nearly looking not amused, her but in the inside, she could have probably heard her heart drop. She took a small step back as Veridyan came towards her. "If you woke us up..." she said, putting her hands on her hips, still frowning. "Then explain to us where we are exactly and why you even have those tanks with you." Koizumi heard a thud to the ground and she quickly looked back to see that the girl was was asleep earlier was now awake. She same somewhat of a grin. "Nice of you to join us finally."

"Oh, good! Everyone's up!" Veridyan beamed.

 

He looked towards Koizumi and smiled. "Yeah, yeah, I get it. You all were frozen, I woke ya up, you want to know why. Don't worry, we'll get to that. But I have to be sure the goods are what I was promised. So before I answer your questions I have a question for all of you, you guys can vote!"

 

Veridyan's smile turned ever so slightly malevolent, while still maintaining a strange odd childishness.

 

"Would you rather be attacked by zombies or aliens?"

"Wha-! When you get over here don't shoot!" Ferro shouted to his companion. He turned back to the gloved man in the tank. "Who are you?" he demanded. "If I don't like your answer, you can count on your head being in a different dimension." Ferro pointed the D-ppendage at the man's head.

"Neither!" Rin snapped, answering Veridyan.

"Veridyan.....I am Rin." She said rather quietly, looking over at Rija.

She frightened Rin a bit, stepping away from her.

Sam looked over toward the ocean, "uh.... thats not good....". Looking down she realized her old weapon appeared in her hands. "Now why give me the weapon I used to specialize in....?". Samantha looked over at the women, "this boat is a death trap, I need to get further up the beach." Without having time to squeeze back from whence she came, Sam knocked down the rusted door and ran from the five beasts who were after her. "This is impossible! Is the girl controlling them? Maybe if i take her down the monsters will shut down". She nodded approving of her plan and took off back down the beach. Avoiding the harder fight was what she was always taught, she just didn't know quite yet who would be the better opponent.

The man smirked and laughed a single dry laugh in front of Ferro.

 

"Sorry, my friend, but that wouldn't be possible."

 

Suddenly the young man was standing next to Ferro. "You see, I'm controlling these tanks, and I'm controlling this world." He jumped down from the tank.

 

"You're going to want to get down from there. I'll admit you and your friend there did well for the first part of the test, but there's one more challenge I have to be sure you can handle before I decide to take a gamble on you. "

 

The tanks all at once started to shift and change. Metal was turning and twisting and locking into place, and soon they did not look like tanks at all. They looked like... giant limbs. The treads that remained carried them toward each other and they started one by one to connect with the the other ones. After about a minute they had formed into a 30-foot high mech. It had huge arms which seem to have built in machine gun turrets built in. Curcuitry suddenly began to show around its neck and joints. It's eyes suddenly came alive, and they focused on Alex and Ferro. Suddenly weapons appeared in the now-small humans' hands. Ones that seemed built for them ((If you didn't already have your weapons equipped)).

 

The young man stood on the shoulder of the mech. "I thought those may come in handy. Show me something good now, I've scoured every possibly anime I could, I'd love to see a new original mech fight here."

 

The machine gun fire was racing towards them before he finished the sentence...

At the beach 3 of the centaurs broke off and formed a tri-formation racing towards Rodin, spears aimed...

 

The woman stood on the far end of the beach, awaiting Sam... "How very confident of her..."

In the jungle Veridyan laughed happily and then jumped over to Rin. "Well it's very nice to meet Rin! You seem nice! But you're kinda indecisive too, so I'm just gonna go with zombies, 'k?"

 

Before anyone could answer a hand emerged from the ground and grabbed Rin's leg.

"Now what's going on here?" Henko had returned form his voyage in the jungle. Grace was pressed against the hand that had grabbed Rin's leg.

"Name's Henko, by the way." He told everyone. "I ran off a few minutes ago and thought I'd keep this thing from harming the little girl here." He applied further pressure to the earthly wrist, ready to sever it completely.
