The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

The young man simply stared at Ferro, smiling. He put both his hands on the D-ppendage and brought it to rest against his forehead.

"Do it."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

The centaurs going after Sam were downed one by one by Rodin and Seraphim. When Rodin approached Sam the red-haired woman smiled.

"You do work well together. I'm very happy to see that."

Any remaining centaurs suddenly evaporated. The woman smiled.

"I believe you all have earned my name. It is Elaryse"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"And the grand finale!" Veridyan yelled.

All the tanks rushed at each other and came together instantly in a strange mass of metal with various cannons pointing in various directions and several sets of treads. All the cannons turns on Henko and began to fire.

Ferro clenched the claw of the D-ppendage so that it was digging ever so slightly into the man's head. "You have attempted to kill me and my companions. That should be reason enough to blow you away." he said in a soft growl. "Fortunately for you, you didn't do a very good job of it." Ferro let go of the man's head and instead presented the D-ppendage to shake. "I'm Ferro al'Vere, but you probably already knew that, I'm guessing."

Samantha's eyes narrowed, "Elaryse, ok, so where is everyone from the experiment?" she asked after watching the centaurs disappear.  She slung her weapon over her shoulder,

"how far into the future are we anyways? I assume we made it from you calling me from the past, also why did you feel the need to attack us if you already know we are not a threat?"

Later? Rija could really use some explanation now, but for now, assuming that zombies were bad couldn't hurt. She reached her hand into the bag Terry had grabbed his own weapons from. She grabbed the first thing she touched, and pulled it out. It was a short rod, kind of like a flashlight, with a switch and a grip. She flipped the switch, and deadly focused light exploded from one end of the rod. Long and slender, the light formed a blade kind of like a rapier. 'This'll do. Light sabers are pretty cool after all.' She thought, before kicking into gear. She ran up and onto the tank nearest her. Rija stabbed the energy blade into the metal cockpit of the tank, and carved open a hole. The soldier jumped in and sliced the zombie pilot's head in half. She pushed the dead undead corpse out of the seat, and jumped in. She maneuvered the barrel of the tank to point at one of the other zombotanks. She let loose two explosive shells and watched as the enemy tank exploded in a burst of shrapnel.

Rodin thinks:  Elaryse? and walked behind her.  He switches his weapon to blaster mode and points it at her head.  Suspicious, Rodin says to Elaryse:  "We would like some answers.  After that little 'test' Elaryse, I'm just not sure what your intentions are for or if anything is right with you."

Rin felt something on her side, it was a sheathe out of all things. She unsheathed the sword, and changed it into a gun form. This was Kutabare. She point her gun at Veridyan and started shooting. Why was he attacking them? She grabbed the back of Henko's shirt and pulled him away and tossed him through the door of the house. If the tanks started shooting there he'd have some place to hide.

Henko froze as the tank took aim at him. The next thing he knew, he was grabbed by an unknown force and thrown into the building. He caught a glimpse of his savior as he was flying midair. It's that one little girl! He thought to himself. As he crashed into the building, he quickly rectified his position, pointing Grace's blade forward and shooting a laser at the point where the tank rounds intercepted, where he was, detonating them in a single direction, where they came from, keeping Rin safe.

The young man in the blue vest smiled.

"I respect your mercy, Ferro but just so we are clear, I never needed it." A D-ppendage appeared in the young man's hand, and he put it to his head, and fired. The young man's head dissolved in strange cubes but reformed within moments. "See, when I told you I controlled this world, I should have been more specific." He walked a bit forward.

"It's more like I am this world."

He turned to Alex, Hazimie, and Ferro with his hand formed like a gun. "And while I could end you all right now, I don't because frankly I wish to work with you. What you just experienced was not me trying to hurt you, it was simply me testing you." He put down his hand.

"My name is Rytt, and I'm the reason you're all awake."

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Veridyan sighed; "Awww, don't run away!"

The tank monstrosity began to charge the cabin at a strangely fast speed.

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elaryse sighed. "If my intentions were to do anything bad to you all, let me assure you it would have already happened." Rodin's blaster suddenly evaporated.

"You see, I'm here to help you, and to request your help. However, let's just say that I couldn't be taking chances, so I decided to test you here. I would have been stupid to do otherwise."

She turned to Samantha. "We're in the year you would know as 2204."

She walked forward slowly and admired the ocean. "And I already know what you're bound to ask next; where are we? Why does this not seem like the future? Well, you could say that this island is one of the more futuristic elements of this time." She turned and faced the group.

"Because it doesn't really exist."

Rin imminently ran into the building.

"We've gotta get out of here!" she yelled to Henko.

Rin grabbed Henko's sleeve, shooting at one of the windows to break it and jumping out the window into the jungle dragging Henko behind her.

"My name is Rin......t–thanks for what you did back there...." She said a bit quietly.

"L-looks like we're running." Henko stuttered as the two of them ran off.

"You don't have to be so forceful though." He told her, even though he was practically running right next to her.

"But thanks for saving me too..." He added quietly.

Koizumi jumped out of the way of the tank's path as it charged towards the cabin. She regained her balance and  gripped her guns in her hands as Rin and Henko ran off into the jungle and out of sight. She sighed sightly and fired a few more shots at the tank before motioning to Terry and Rija. "We need to get out of here." she said while still firing at the tank.

"Work with us?" Ferro was surprised. The man, whose name was apparently Rytt, the one who had tried to kill them, now wanted their help. "I'm not about to sign on with something I know nothing about, with a person who tried to kill me. And I don't care what you say about testing. If we had failed, it would have meant death." This was the kind of bargaining that got Ferro into the D-project in the first place; you have to state your demands and stick with them, just like making plans. "And how could a person and a world be one and the same? That defies every shred of science and logic."

Alex held the gun tightly in his hand. He didn't trust this Rytt.

However, somehow, he found himself slightly believing him.

"Perhaps...well, it defies logic that a human would so easily survive a blast to the head...and then have their cranium reform." Alex said, looking at Ferro. "And perhaps he speaks the truth-- we woke up here...someone must have caused that." Alex looked at Rytt. Even if he was advocating for him; Alex didn't trust him enough to exactly 'go along' with whatever Rytt had in mind.

Rin let go of Henko's arm.

"Sorry...." She apologized.

There was a long moment of silence.

"You're welcome. If I Indy you would have been killed...." Rin said in a normal tone.

The two of them slowed down after a bit. "We'd both be dead right now one of us didn't have the other." Henko added sheepishly. "Rin... So that's your name. My name's Henko. But I guess you already knew that." He chuckled.

"So, Rin," he started, "why'd you take part in the whole freeze for the future thing anyway?"

(freeze for the future... that should be a saying of some kind)

Rin glared at Henko and crossed her arms.

"I didn't care about it. No matter what I didn't care about it." She snapped.

But you're here now, aren't you? He almost asked. You'd at least have to care a little.

Henko leaned in until he was only a few centimeters from Rin's face. She was rather noticeably shorter than him, so he leaned pretty far.

"There's something peculiar about you." He said slowly.

Rija watched the younger boy and girl avoided the tank shots, then saw them run. The other girl motioned for them to get going. She sighed inside the tank she had jacked. The soldier shot another round at a tank, before jumping out. She hated to leave a flipping tank behind, but she figured they'd be faster without it. She jogged over to the bag, and pulled out another weapon. This one didn't need a demonstration. It was clearly a pistol, but whether it shot lasers or not, she'd find out later. After she had switched her sword off, and placed both weapons in her pockets. Rija ran over to the other girl, and began to talk.

"So uh, what's your name? I'm Rija. Also, if you could explain a little of how I got here, that'd be appreciated too."

Sam sighed, "what is this a set of some cheesy movie?" she wondered silently watching the girl. "What help exactly are you requesting?" Samantha asked out loud, she hated it when someone had even a little control over her. She knew it was a weakness and she should overcome it but this time was different. This time it was her job to question everything and anything. "And even if you were supposedly here to help what if we had failed your little test?"

Koizumi lowered her guns and looked at Rija. "The name's Koizumi Onnea and to be honest, i still have the slightest clue on how we got here, or where this place even is. From the looks of it, we're in the middle of a jungle but i don't know what's far beyond it." Koizumi glanced at the tank Rija just came out of. "How do you even know how to work that thing so quickly? Were you part of the military or something?"

"I'm rather certain it's a virtual reality." Derik had finally unfroze and had walked to the little congregation. "When I think about it, we're not in life-support machines and we lack any reanimation systems to safely defrost us. It just doesn't make sense..." He picked up a handful of sand. "The sand is odd, it's so much more like a pile of dirt, not-as it's name calls it-sand-like, and our body's all safely reanimate despite revival equipment... Seems like it's nearly impossible to me..." he muttered to himself, not realizing that he was thinking aloud. He then looked at the group. "Oh, sorry. I'm just walking through and trying to figure out what's going on. I'm assuming that our little group here is made of people whom were also cryogenic frozen... So hi."

"Hey! Hey! Hey! Stop ignoring my stuff!" Veridyan was not terribly happy. "Fine, psh, I guess you did good enough. Just don't you all get cuddly with each other, that's gross."

The tanks and zombies all suddenly blew away with wind. Nothing was left but the remnants of the cabin and the people.

"Once you all are done being all buddy-buddy over there, come over here. I'm done the tests, you guys passed, now I gotta make sure you're all okay in the head before I let you out and explain it, kay?"

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Rytt turned his head to Ferro and pointed towards Alex.

"This guy, I like him, he's smart. You see, there's a lot don't know, and you should do your best not to assume to much, it'll get you hurt. Firstly, you were never in any danger. This world isn't real. It's what you may call a simulation. As for how I am the world, well, that may take a moment to explain to someone who's been frozen a while."

Rytt paced a moment before looking back at the people before him. "I gotta know before we go any further; you guys can fight alright, but none of you are crazy are you? If you guys are legitimately crazy that's gonna put a wrench in my plans, or whatever phrase you people use. The whole freeze hasn't gotten in your head, right? Damn old human tech..."

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Elaryse sighed.

"So many questions, you're not gonna like the answer to all of them." She glanced toward Derik. "He's right, though. This is not reality, it's a software based interface that you are all connected to. I'll explain why once I get you out, but before I do I have to make sure you all are still good at thinking. Older technology is not superb at full preservation, do I must simply make sure that none of you have been damaged. So... I want you all to say what country you are from, okay?"

Elaryse walked a bit down the beach and stopped.

"As for what I need your help with. It is better I save that until you're fully awake. You may handle the news better."

"Wait... I said that a loud!? Darn. Oh, well." He sighed. "I come from the US of A's, Las Vegas Nevada, to be precise. Derik Absolon's the name, weapon-forging is my game." He put his hand on his chest proudly as he spoke. "Anyway, you said we have to help you with something. Lemmie guess, something happened and we're the only humans left?" Derik said sarcastically, tracing a circle in the air with his index finger, and then he laughed. "Yeah, right. It would be insane to think all of the human race was gone. Besides, whoever you are, lady, you look human-enough. So, tell me: Do people still look for weapon smiths in this time-period?" He asked.

"Germany" Samantha said begrudgingly still refusing to reveal her name to the strange women. She really would rather not be a part of all this but if what the lady said was true it didn't seem she had a choice. "I'll stick around until she wakes up our real bodies... then I'll decide what I need to do". Satisfied with her plan, Sam crossed her arms over her chest and looked around at the other people there. The last to wake up seemed rather full of himself and quite dense, for the rest she had yet to form an opinion.

"I was right!" Sera punched the air. "Knew this was virtual!" She didn't see anyone else smiling, so she faltered. "And uh...USA." She glanced around, a bit...and felt uneasy. The other woman was a bit intense. The guy she saved...not sure.

The last guy? She didn't like much.
