The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

Derik was inside, by what seemed like a miracle, but this wasn't the problem. The problem was that Derik was rocketing forward at around 32vmiles per hour."I'm just gonna have to try and adjust my trajectory." Derik thought, bringing his body into a ball-like shape, he slowly forced his body to turn a little, which after sucessfuly doing, he was pointing his feet at the corner of the airlock. He let himself fly freely again, his knees naturally buckleing down from the pressure, but in such a way, it looked almost practiced, and then he sprung off of the wall and at a turret, using a rocket-like set of momentum to propell him forward at one of the turrets, bracing his hands for the contact, he shoved the turret(which barely turned in time to shoot a single round into Derik's helmet, cracking it a bit) and shoved it off, using huge velocity to send it flying. "Hey, you wouldn't happen to have a spare helmet, would you?" He inquired to the robot.

Seraphim brought up her computer.

"Elly! What frequency are they using for the remote targeting? If it's wireless in any way I can try and get the rest to stop firing!"

Of course, she was first off trying to avoid being shot.

"Impatient aren't you?" Henko said, sending his rockets to send him into the station as fast as possible. A cluster of meteoroids were coming together to block his way. "Great..." He said sarcastically. He used Brutality to give him an even bigger burst of speed and sent him flying impossible fast towards the space rocks. "Take this!" Time seemed to slow as Henko's mechanicalized fist made contact with his obstacle, firing off a cluster of miniature rockets and blasting everything in his way aside in a flurry of space pebbles. "Happy now?" He asked Veridyan, landing into the station.

Terry, miscalculating a thrust, made it to the other airlock a few meters behind Henko.

"Check the landing zone." He called to Henko. "I'll make sure the others get here."

Terry anchored himself and pulled his plasma rifle to his shoulder. Making sure not to hit the others or disrupt there current trajectory, Terry aimed and fired on some meteorites, blasting them out of the others' way.

"I'm hurrying! I'm hurrying!" Rin yelled, she started fallowing the route Henko took, managing to get through the rest of the meteoroids and to e airlock safely.

"Yay! I made it!" She exclaimed.

Looking at the two all ready there, she sighed.

"Hi Gideon and Henko..." She said.

Rija landed next to Rin on the airlock platform. "Zero-G is so much fun." Rija said, grinning slightly. She walked up to the door into Psi.

"Hey, Veridyan, how do we open this? 'Cuz I'm about to cut this door open with my light saber." The soldier, said, hoping the robot would hear her. She examined the door further, finding nothing of too much interest.

Elaryse's voice suddenly sounded in Derik's helmet.

"There's no way to replace gear from this far away, you're on your own until you disable whatever is controlling those turrets."

Her voice then sounded through Seraphim's speakers.

"Here, I've set your hacking module to their wireless channel, do what you will."

The airlock door was open, awaiting it's visitors, and the turrets continued to fire....

The hallway was now dead quiet, only Ferro and Alex remained. Suddenly a voice crackled through their wrist-consoles. It was Rytt.

"You ne-.... keep mov-..... toxi-.....left do-..."

The voice cut off once more and only silence remained.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"No worries!"Veridyan seemed cheerful again. "Give me about a minute and I'll heck into the door controls an-"

The airlock door opened into the oxygen venting chamber.

"Oh." He seemed stunned. "I didn't do that. But hey, surprise is the spice of life, right? Everyone in! Let's see who our mystery doorman is!"

"That's fine. I just needed to know if you did." Derik said, with a sigh. "Come on! For peat's sake... I don't have rockets, yet I made it first. Hurry up, slowpokes..." Derik thought, watching the turret he broke float off. "I wonder which planet we're near. If we were near Mercury, I would ask the bot if they had any suits that could withstand the pressure, as well as some containers. I've always wondered what liquid metal hydrogen's property's. If I could get ahold of the material and solidify it, it could make great armor or weapons." Derik thought as he prepared to make another lunge and knock out another turret.

"I'll be fine.." Alex replied,"Just help me get that wrapped on, and let's move. I don't want to stay in one place. I'm getting the feeling that staying here too long will most certainly get us killed." Alex said, nodding to his wrist console, "And from the static, it seems Rytt really wants us to get moving, too."

"It seems he was about to say toxic. Yes, we definitely should get moving." Ferro quickly wrapped the wire around Alex's arm, drew it tight, and twisted the wires together so they would stay. "Let's go." Ferro helped Alex to his feet, crated two portals, and returned to the end of the hall. "Which way do we want to go?"

"Whichever way will get us farther away." Alex muttered. His mind was foggy and unclear. Usually his deduction skills would enable him to give a close-to-accurate guess, but the pain shearing through his arm made any thinking impossible. "Preferably, if along the way, perhaps there will be a med bay...or something close to it." Alex said, holding his rifle close. It would be difficult to use it, Alex knew that. Without his other arm, aiming and holding the weapon would prove unwieldy.

"I suppose it doesn't matter which way we choose, considering we don't know the way through the station" Ferro had his implant do a quick random-number generation. "Left." Ferro felt in his storage unit to make sure the extra holo-comm was there, then stepped up to the door, which opened. Past the door was. . .

Henko moved ahead and into the oxygen chamber. All seemed clear. He extended Grace. Nothing seemed out of place.

"Looks safe, you guys, come on." He gestured his group to follow.

Rodin thinks:  How could he get there before us if these rockets should make us go faster than him?   shouts to Derik:  "Excuse me for wanting to make sure myself and the others don't get struck by bullets!  And we don't have any more time to try dodging them like in the Matrix!"  Rodin makes it on the station and gets inside the airlock.  He turns around and thinks:  Just the ladies now.  Hm...  Rodin shifts his weapon into blaster mode and tries firing on the turrets.

Seraphim went to work as fast as she could, and as she approached the station, every turret on the outer shell went dark.

"Thanks Elly. Let's hope no one died before I managed to shut them down I guess."

She flared out and caught the edge of the airlock, flipping inside, nearly hitting Rodin.

"I hate this!" she screamed as she rebounded off a wall and smacked into another.

"Ow."

Ferro felt in his storage unit to make sure the extra holo-com was there, then stepped up to the door, which opened. Past the door was. . .

A large control hub. They had entered through one of two doors in the room, the other one was on the opposite side of the door, locked.

There were large stations and consoles mounted on walls and placed around the room, with various measurements and interfaces running. An early 21st century medkit was stored in a cabinet to the side. The room didn't look to be the bridge of the station it wasn't big enough. It looked like some other sort of control hub.

"Welcome to the atmospheric retention and gas control section." Daerius's voice boomed out from all sides. "Rytt isn't here for now, he was never a good teacher, anyway. Take the medkit and I will help you help Rytt, by showing you how to swiftly and effectively get rid of competition.

The airlock area in front of both Elaryse and Veridyan's group suddenly started emitting a hurried beeping sound.

The outer doors on both airlocks were closing.

"Move it!" Terry yelled to the rest of his group as he saw the airlock closing.

He did what he could and made sure that Koizumi made it in before squeezing in himself before the doors closed.

"Got it chief!" Rija called back to Terry, dashing in herself. She turned back to face the door, trying to find some way to stop it from closing. No big red button jumped out at her, so she yelled instead. "Rin! Come one before these door close."

Rin leapt through the door, about falling on her face once she was on the other side.

"I'm sorry...." she apologized, bowing slightly.

"I'm such an idiot...."

"How did he... Read my mind?" Derik was flabbergasted. "Telepathy... Damn..." He thought, hoping Rodin wasn't listening in.(I hate my phooooone.

(Yeah, you're fine.)

The two airlock doors slammed shut.

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

"Okay, you're in, good." Elaryse had regained some of her composure. "I applaud you on a job well done with handling that improvisation. Things should hopefully go smoother from here. Now I'll just unlock the opposite door and then we c-"

The voice cut off. The room was silent for a moment.

"Welcome to Psi" It was an unfamiliar voice being routed through their wrist-consoles now. "Here to untether your good friend Elaryse? So she can, what, gain full power enough to kill you off and become the strongest being in the universe? She's direct, no-nonsense, I was the one that taught her, I know how she thinks." The voice was half deranged. "She is like all of you- selfish. That is one lesson that all parts of life teach us. It is the most important lesson. SAs, Humans, they are the same. They wish only for the things that will help them. For example..."

The wrist consoles suddenly showed a holographic feed of two humans in a small control room. There was no sound, but the image was very clear.

"These two are currently about decide whether they kill you all, or another group of humans. Why are they going to do this, because that is what shall help them. You and your group are only an obstacle. Do you feel alone yet? Do you feel betrayed by your people?"

There was a pause, the feed continued the live broadcast of the two.

"Don't worry," the voice said.

"You will."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Veridyan's group was safely in the airlock chamber.

"Wahooooo!!!!" He was more excited than usual. "Yes, yes, yes! I knew you guys could do it. So awesome. Those meteors were all like 'Hey hey hey, we gonna get you!', and you all were like 'no way, we're Veridyan's crew, we're awesome, Veridyan is awesome!' Yeah you all are gonna do great, ya hear me? I'll start the oxygen filtration cycle and open the door into the station so you can find the tether an-"

His feed cut off. Another, deeper, faster, more deranged voice suddenly began to speak from their wrist consoles.

"Find the tether and allow you maniacal SA friend Veridyan to have all the destructive fun he wants. You realize that, don't you? He's a monster, a child with a gun, and you're about to turn the safety off for him. You cannot blame him, though, he is simply doing what comes naturally- whatever he wants. You are no different, you have come here to help him because it shall save your own skin. You have surely deluded yourself, I know, into thinking that there will be no repercussions, but there will be. You will have to hurt people to continue on this path, and I know you will do it, because you humans only ever care about yourself. My main directive was to teach valuable lessons to those who needed it the most. You and your ilk need to be taught just how much your deluding yourself. Doing things for the greater good eh? You would kill others to get what you want, I know it. Let me show you."

A holographic display appeared on everyone's wrist consoles. It showed two men in a room. There was no sound, but the image was clear.

"These two are about to murder either your group or another group of humans. Why, you ask? Because they want what you want- the tether, and you are nothing more than obstacles. They can only choose one group to murder but I'm sure they would choose both if they could, just like you all, they would do whatever it takes to gain what they want. Watch them..."

The feed continued to run.

"See how much they care about fellow humans- that is, not at all."

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A holographic feed came up before Ferro and Alex. The medkit was sitting next to it. On the feed were two screens. One showing one group of people-wearing red armor, and the other wearing green. The groups were made up of different people but they were mostly the same size.

"See to your wounds, and then you have a choice to make. My first class project. These two groups of people are coming to this station to take what you are both after. They are larger than you, so thus they are overall stronger than you. You don't stand a chance, but luckily I wish to help you."

Daerius paused and then continued with a single statement.

"To move on from this room you must select one of these groups, and poison gas will be channeled to their airlock atmospheric introduction chamber. Once their oxygen runs out in a few moments they will all be killed, and you will have one last thing to worry about. See, see how much I'm looking out for you both? A medkit for the injured one, and a leg up on your competition."

There was no communication from Rytt.

"Oh, and you have one minute to choose before I gas them both and you as well."
