The wind blew softly over the island. Besides the soft swaying of the trees there was little to disturb the idyllic serenity here. The island stretched out for miles, but at the coasts there was nothing to see but water. The island, like the universe in which it existed, was nearly empty, the remnants of life clung, decaying, to its shores and its trees and its fields, but the yells of excitement, of fear, of courage that has once complimented the sound of the wind ha since faded to echoes. Today, however, that changed. Today life returned to the universe. The only question is; what kind of universe would it return to?

"C'mon, get up!"

"All of you, wake up."

"Rise and shine, it's a new day."

Far away voices entered the hazy minds of those sleeping on the island.

Lying on the shore of a short beach was Seraphim Valentine, Derik Absolon, and Samantha Allison, and Rodin Seefull. The wind blew over them as they lay sprawled over the sand in close proximity to each other. Just as they had been placed. Next to the beach was a mix of jungle and swamp that went deeper into the mainland. Besides that the beach was mostly barren. A wrecked fishing boat was rusted and decaying within walking distance, but nothing more. The waves lapped up on the shore softly...

Lying in the middle of an airstrip surrounded by jungle was a different group. Rusted machine parts lay strewn about, and any sign of activity at the airstrip had long since faded. On the ground in the middle of the airstrip lay Alex Dimanche, Ferro al'Vere, and Hazimie Azhar Two desolate bunkers flanked the airstrip they were on, with a control tower at the end of the strip. Forest flanked the airstrip on all sides, with a single winding road leading out. The wind cut through the trees and sliced past the bunkers onto the airstrip. Only the wind and the trees provided any sound to the desolate military installation...

Deep in the jungle was a pair of rusted jeeps parked next to a crumbling house. The jeeps were long past functioning, and their engines were removed recently as well. The house sat surrounded by the trees with a single road leading somewhere further into the jungle. Inside the house were the four people; Rija Mors, Terry Frost, Henko Tenioenai, Koizumi Onnea, and Rin Nozomi Part of the roof of the house had caved in, and most of the belongings and furniture were gone. Remaining in the house were a few pots and pans, and single picture in an immaculate frame on a table in the room where the four people were laying. Silence pervaded the house...

The far away voices slowly awakened all of these people. The clouds in the blue skies above moved slowly; the morning was upon them. It was time to wake up and find the future...

"Henko!! Run!" Rin shout. Rin activated her rockets, grabbing onto Henko's hand, and making them go twice as faster together. In what seemed as seconds, Henko and Rin reached the door together.

Henko pulled Rin with him inside. Back and forth it seemed. One pulling the other. They barely even knew each other.

"You got any way of lighting this place?" He asked her.

Terry grabbed and pulled along anyone who was lagging in the group from the toxins.

"Nice place we've stumbled on." He said as he made it into the computer room.

He fiddled with his armor till he flicked on a couple of lamps on the front of his armor. Seeing the computers seemed to interest him. He walked over and pressed some keys.

"How we doing gang?" He asked over his shoulder.

The lights in the room suddenly flashed on. The elevator to everyone's destination stood in the middle. Not everyone was in the room yet, but it had already begun...

Ferro, Alex, Henko, Rin, Terry, Rija, Rodin. They now all faced each other.

There were no transmissions... from anyone.

What happened next was up to them.

Ferro quickly stood up and activated his shield. So much for the plan he had been forming. "Hold on a second!" he called out. "Before we go laying into each other, we should talk. Being the last humans does not mean we should not be civilized." Ferro gestured to where Alex was hiding. "I have asked my companion to hold his fire, and I always practice what I preach."

Derik managed to shield the others in the room and funnel them into the next. "Okay. Now for myself." He thought. "But first, these turrets aren't gonna stop. Their gonna try to turn and keep firing on whatever they can, so it would be better to take them down now." He gripped the console and chucked it at one of the turrets, and in meantime, he ripped another one out and chucked it to the other one. After that, he made a mad dash to the door, which succeeded, but what now if the turrets came back from that room? Derik desided to pull the door closed behind him, after he was sure everyone was out. Once they were, he grabbed one side of the door, then pulled it to its center position, then preformed the same action with the other door, only making sure that that half was bent in a way that made it unable to open again. "Well... That was a thing..." He said aloud, sighing, he turned to see that the three groups convened into this one. "Well. Nice to meet you all. By chance, dose anyone in their right minds want to die today? If not, hold your attacks back."

Rin imminently stood straight behind Henko, staring at Derik the boy who just spoke.

"Why are we all here in the first place.....?" She asked quietly.

Rin imminently stood straight behind Henko, staring at Derik the boy who just spoke. "Why are we all here in the first place.....?" She asked quietly.

"Well, I, myself am here just trying to gather info and materials, my associates here want to unteather the artificial intelligence that unfroze them. I'm assuming you want to do the same for your robot pal? Well, I'm not in your way, your not in mine. Just act like I was never here." Derik stepped into the elevator alone and fijitted with the buttons until the door closed. He had selected a lower level to go to, and was waiting for the elevator to be set in motion.

Alex glanced at them all.

Ferro's acting as if I'm his subordinate.. He thought, lowering his rifle an inch. Alex decided on staying quiet; let the others talk and he would put in his own input when he felt it necessary. Hopefully, he thought, this wouldn't end up into a terrible gun battle.

Rodin watches Derik and says:  "Well, looks like someone can't wait."  Probably with a good reason.  Rodin then says:  "Just like what my....associate said, I'd guess mostly everyone came here to remove the tether holding our respective SAs.  And each of us being in a dire toxic situation by this 'Daerius' voice and having to escape to here.  I think that kind of sum things up here.  You know, with not counting personal reasons."

Rija walked forward a little bit so she could get a better view of the newcomers. "If we're all here for the same reason, than I would suggest working together. I mean, we have no reason to be against each other, so the next logical step would be to work towards the same goal." Rija suggested a plan of action. She could only hope that this would all go over well. Theoretically, with more people together, wading through "Daerius" traps would become much easier.

Ferro decided to play off the general good mood of the group. "Perhaps we could split the tether into three parts to unhook all three? Or just deny them all and find some way to leave this station." Ferro thought it was safe to put his shield down now, and he did so.

Henko readied Brutality. "Working for rival SA's it seems. Maybe I should just take you all down and let Veridyan have his way." This Daerius seemed to be a bigger threat, but Henko was suddenly in a bloodthirsty mood. He always regretted coming out of these, but he wanted to fight nonetheless.

As Derik stepped towards the elevator an electromagnetic pulse suddenly surged through him and he was thrown back with violent force.

Daerius was back.

"I'm so glad you all are getting along. As you can see there is currently an electric surge field around the elevator stopping anyone from getting through. I will disable it, but only after I explain the rules of my final lesson. I'm going to let you get to the tether. One group of you. See, once I put down the surge field a sort of contest will begin, as the surge field will be instantly adjusted the first contestant here steps into the elevator, and it will restrict access to everyone not wearing their armor specialization. More simply, the team that reaches the elevator first will be the only one allowed within it. The others will be left here, at which time I will active the bridge's self destruct capability."

The doors on all sides instantly locked.

"You have 45 seconds before the surge field goes down. So tell me, oh noble humans, how will your superficial virtue supply a solution to this? My advice is to simply beat the opposing sides into submission, as to be sure they cannot beat anyone to elevator. One team will find the tether... one team will find Project Genesys. The others will die. Lessons like this are hard, my students, but they must be learned. You must learn them. Sacrifice is inevitable. You wish to find me? You wish to find the truth? Be willing to end the very same aspirations of others to do so."

The  screens in the room began counting down from 45.

"Begin."

Henko clashed his fist together. "Forty-five seconds to decide which of you's going against me!" He declared. He looked at the people around him. Two people seemed particularly interesting, the hasty elevator dude, and the old man with the claw. What could that claw do? Henko wondered. Hopefully he'd get to find out. He licked his lips. "Tick, tock."

Ferro didn't like the way the metal-fist guy was staring at him. "The circumstances have not changed. Even if only one team can get up there, they can still act for all of us. Let's try to remain cool and collected." He slightly emphasized the last three words with a sharp look at the fist-smasher. Ferro primed his D-ppendage for shield usage, just in case things got out of hand.

Seraphim had taken initiative, plugging into a console directly and begining to hack. The timer appearing only made her more determined.

"I'm going to try and buy you guys more time. Everyone, go. If I can't stop the timer, maybe I can lower the field for a precious few seconds." She grimaced - Daerius had amazing cyber defenses.

But she wasn't Valkyrie for nothing.

As Sera continued her hacking, the time ticked away. "Just run everyone! There is a way you all can go! Just be ready - if I can lower the field, you guys can escape and find the truth!" She glanced around to see people prepped for battle.

"FOOLS! Fighting each other is not going to do anything! Enough humans have died! Work together to succeed! Can't you see how all together you could do even more?"

Seraphim had to resume hacking.

"Is killing each other the only answer you people can think of? Blood-slicked halls and bodies abundant? How about you search for the pulse emitters and see if they are anywhere within reach."

She didn't want to die.

But Sera didn't see any other way.

There had been enough death. More needed to live this time.

"Begin."

"Electricity. Figures." Derik pondered a way to get rid of this. "A short circuit would be excellent, but I lack a blade or an object I can use to act as a circuit rod... if someone had some rubber or plastic on them I could just carry them over. Well..." His mumblings would only serve to frustrate him as he lacked any ideas that could work. If he had plans of the area, he would just punch down and tear out a cupling or a wire of some kind, but no such... "Wait... The hacker girl... I've got it." he started to walk over and then she started her small speech. "Eloquently put. But she doesn't notice the yahoos we are surrounded by. She just waited her breath." His mind couldn't help but comment on the situation silently. He walked over to her, finally. "Hey, get me some plans of the area, If I can find the locations of a power cupling or something of that nature, I can force a short circuit of the area."

He turned to look at the crowd of people. "I'll handle crowd control. I'll make sure no one's dead after this, but you need to make it possible for everyone to escape. I assume you can handle a task of this magnitude, at the least." He didn't wait for a response as he turned towards the boy licking his lips. "That gleam in his eye... No doubt about it, he's hungering for blood." he muttered, walking over to him. "You look like you want a little blood-spill. If you don't mind, I'll tip my hat and your cup of blood into a round or two." He nonchalantly tilted his head around to see if any other challengers were there, noticing none, he then proceeded to somehow make a sound like that of knuckles cracking, but he didn't move a muscle. "Now that I'm loose, and it doesn't appear that there are other challengers, let's start, shall we?" he took a simple stance, left side forward, left arm up but hand hooked over, his right hand preforming a similar appearance, he couched down and prepared. He had a similar stance to that of what people call a "Mantis Style" fighting pose as he prepared for his opponent to take his stance and start the fight.

A plan of the area? Ferro could do that. He ran a complete scan of the room, both of the area and the electronics. The consoles all led off to different parts of the station, and the wires and emitters that kept the surge field up were all contained within the field. "Damn!" he muttered under his breath. It would require breaking through the floor, which seemed to be a good few feet of metal plates. He walked over to the man who had first encountered the surge field (Derik). "There's no easy way to take that field down. Just wanted to tell you that. And if the fight get's out of hand, I will intervene." With that, he backed off a short distance to give them room.

Pulling up what she could, Sera frowned. "Can't do better at the moment. It is hard to find the damn conduit that controls the surge field." Sera continued hacking. She had to.

"Dammit Elly, I should have made sure I had every hacking module and tool available...wait she did." Then Seraphim got an idea. Leaving hacking tools assaulting the surge protectors, Seraphim did the indirect approach - she began hacking into the self destruct mechanism itself, attempting to take it offline for a few minutes at least - long enough for everyone to get into the elevator.

"The material this place is mad of is far from hard for me to punch through, even without gauntlets. My only worry would be the electricity that would come. I've not started my shock training yet, so I'm not yet ready for overly high voltage, but survival means survival. Tell me, are the main technology in the field itself? If so, then we may have an issue, as that level of voltage could fry any one of us." He asked, glancing at the man. "And don't worry. If things even had a chance of going too far, I would step out. I plan to just knock him out, but if he dies, it's his own fault. He asked for a fight, and if he won't get knocked out, it means he's just to stubborn or hyperactive to sleep."

"Or the one to win." Henko added, having moved closer to Derik while he was distracted. Brutality began doing it's work, tiny hydraulic pistons reeling back ready to burst and rockets ready to detonate as Henko's mechanicalized fist came towards Derik's midsection?

Ferro was about to tell Derik that the field projector was contained within the field, but closed his mouth when he saw the fisted man make a move towards Derik. He didn't want to distract Derik with information while he fought.

Rija watched quietly as everything happened. She thought about what it meant to be a soldier. You had to sacrifice things for the greater good. You had to do your duty, as professed by your superiors. All of the people here were now soldiers, whether they wanted to be or not. Some would have to sacrifice themselves for others. Rija tried to tune out the voices of the others, trying not to hear the voices of the people she was about to kill. "Sorry," She muttered quietly. The soldier ran, avoiding the ongoing fight, and making a break for the elevator. She had been the fastest of her squad, which was a squad of elite soldiers. She could only hope that she could out sprint the others.

"Do you mind? I'm having a conversion, you twit." Derik simply moved away from the blow. "Next time, try to be faster. I'm wearing a metal coat and you can't hit me." He grabbed the incoming attack as he said this, using a large amount of force to show his dominance in this fight, he placed dents into the gauntlet about as big as his fingers, and then noticed the girl running at the elevator.

"My, my. Aren't we daring?" Derik, said, slightly adjusting his position, he lifted his opponent off of the ground, then threw his opponent at the girl. "But guts get fried by electricity, I'm afraid." Derik sighed.
