Welcome Aboard!

 

Hello, people! I've had the idea of making a roleplay based on one of Spike Chunsoft's excellent visual novels, Dangan Ronpa. After a couple of weeks to finalize the plans, this is the product. In terms of connection with the official installments, this one is pretty much an AU / unrelated to the official games other than the basic premise and Monobear's appearance. Although this is a roleplay in a basic sense, it is going to have a few different mechanics due to the nature of the game.

 

The spark notes of this iteration is that your character, on their first day of school starting at Hope's Peak Academy (essentially a high school for the "best of the best" where the students are all experts in a certain field), is brought on this cruise ship with several other classmates. They are not allowed to leave, except if they can commit the "perfect murder" - that is, if they can kill off a classmate AND get away with it after a class trial, they will be allowed to leave and the rest will receive a very nice punishment. However, if you get caught and exposed, it will be you who gets said punishment.

 

The punishment? Death. It's that simple.

 

Now, for the most important thing to start with, the character sign-up sheet. However, instead of posting it on this thread, I ask that you PM me with your sheet. In this way, if you have some sort of special twist with your character than you want to include, it will be entirely private and up to your discretion if you want to reveal it to other characters in the IC segments. However, if you get accepted, you are totally free to post your character and their SHSL skill (which will be explained in a bit).

 

I am going to ask for a minimum of 12 characters. Because of the nature of this RP and how it will go down, I want to keep a limit of 1 character per person. However, I'll open up room for a 2nd character as a last resort if we can't find enough people. Signups are now open for a second character, so the limit is now 2 per person. Find info about second character submissions here. The total character limit will max out at 16, so any characters submitted after the max is reached cannot be accepted.

 

Oh yeah, and there will be a definite end to this roleplay, although it will take some time to get there due to how long it will take. When there is a number of characters left, there may or may not be an opportunity to pursue this ending. However, to progress further in the overall arc, a number of students will have to be killed and trials will have to be given, but I will not go into details. Just keep that in mind for later.

 

Anyway, onto the application template:

 

 

Name: What's the name of your character?

Age: The age of your character (must be between 15 - 18 as these are high school students)

SHSL: Short for "Super High School Level". This is your character's special skill; the thing of which they are one of the elite in their field. It can be a hobby such as "Soccer Player" or "Pianist", or it can be an area of expertise like "Astronomy" or "Biologist" or whatever. It could even be an occupation if you so wish. The only thing I ask is that please keep it at least somewhat grounded in reality; no supernatural powers or whatever. Please make sure you do not submit a repeat of an already accepted character's SHSL, and I won't accept "Hope", "Good Luck", or "Despair" as SHSL to keep it separate from the games.

 

Appearance: What does your character look like? A description is perfectly fine, but if you really want to use a picture go ahead. The only thing is that I'd prefer just a description because these characters can be as "anime" and crazily designed as you want, and I don't want to limit your creativity.

Personality: Just a few sentences or three that describe your character's temperament and the like.

 

Biography: Your character's past up until starting their first day of school at Hope's Peak. About two paragraphs or so will work just fine.

Phases of the Game / Actions and Spoiler Tags

 

The game will be divided into a couple of phrases which cycle through as the story progresses. There will be three major phrases: Free Time, Investigation, and Trial. I will announce on this thread when the next major phase starts.

 

• During Free Time, you are free to wander through the accessible areas of the ship, interacting with any characters or the environment as you please. After a few days of OOC time pass (roughly a week or so), I will open up for murder requests, which will be explained below. This phase ends when a body is discovered.

• The Investigation phrase is the second part of the cycle. For all intents and purposes this is the same as Free Time, but with the goal of finding all of the evidence for the murder that you can. This phase will close when all of the evidence has been collected by at least one person, but multiple people may collect the same evidence.
   
• Trials, however, are a very special case. Instead of a "play-by-post" setup, we will be using a real-time IRC chat. As this requires some setting up, a time for the trial will be established beforehand so everyone can be prepared to be online. During this phrase, everyone will have a mass discussion to reveal who is the killer, and ultimately vote on who it is to save themselves. This phase closes after the conclusion of the trial.

 

During the "play-by-post" phases, you will walk around the accessible areas of the ship and interact with your environment through actions. When your character performs an action with their environment such as picking up an item, using an item, examining a location or item, or walking to another area, it would be nice if you bolded them so they "pop out", so to speak. As I will just be the moderator for this roleplay, whenever you perform an action I will post with the results of said action (with as short of a wait as I can). However, if you are simply taking an item or dropping it or whatever, you do not have to wait for me to confirm. If you are moving to a room, examining part of the environment or using an item that requires a response description (e.g. turning on a computer will require a confirmation by me as I have to inform you what's on it; using a pen or pencil would not, unless you specify that you want to examine it as well). If you are unsure on if you need my approval or not, when in doubt wait it out.

 

You are free to combine actions in one post if it is something continuous or has already been addressed to your character.

 

Talking and interacting with other characters, however, are free actions. They do not have to be bolded as you are not interacting with the environment. But, if you are interacting with the environment while addressing someone, that should be bolded.

 

Because of the nature of this game, to ensure that some characters will be left out of the dark, I am instituting a system that utilizes spoiler tags to keep things hidden. (i.e. the [ spoiler]

thingies).

• When people split up into separate rooms, any actions you take in said room that you don't care who else in the room sees will be in a spoiler tag marked with the room's name.

• When you are in the same room as someone but want to keep information from at least one other person, mark your spoiler tag with the username(s) of the people you want to address.

• When you want to keep an action hidden from anyone else, mark your spoiler tag with"@GM", so that we will know said action is only addressed to me. Moreover, anything addressed to me will require for you to wait on a response post by me since you may get caught if someone is nearby.

• Moving from one room to another does not need to be in spoiler tags; you can just flat-out write it.

Although it is impossible to ensure that only the people allowed will read the spoiler tags addressed to them, by using this honor system I feel we can detract the temptation to read something that might wind up as playing the metagame, as part of the fun is not knowing what other characters are doing while you're just talking with one of your fellow prisoners.

 

So please, don't read when you are not being addressed.

Committing a Murder

 

I must approve of murder ideas before anyone can go through with them. If you want to request a murder idea, just PM me with this template:

 

 

Who: The persons involved in the murder, whether it is accomplices, the victim, or the killer him/herself.

How: The specific details of the murder, and how it goes down. (Any items used in the murder must have been revealed to yourself before submitting a murder request)

What: The clues that are left behind (e.g. the state of a room, specific items for evidence, alibis if applicable)

When: The time of the murder (can be a ballpark estimate, as this will be for the coroner's report when an investigation starts)

Where: The location of the discovered body (NOT the actual murder location, if the body is moved before being discovered)

Why: The motive for the murder.

 

 

If I find the murder fair and reasonable to solve, I will contact the victim's handler and if he or she agrees to it, you have a few days to set it up to resolve any ongoing interactions with other characters. However, for the sake of keeping it a secret, don't literally act out the murder. Just make sure the event of the murder makes sense and that no one mentioned in the murder request could see it being carried out. It'll be an "off-screen" event.

 

To bring up an earlier point, this roleplay will require a number of characters to be killed off, so if it comes to a stalemate where no one is willing to kill / risk the killing of their character, we will not be able to progress through the overarching storyline.

The Rules

 

 

You may not:

 

• Share information about characters outside of in-character posts
• Read a spoiler tag if your character isn't in the same room, your character isn't specifically addressed, or if the spoiler in question is a hidden action. I know this is impossible to enforce, but it really does make the game much more fun if you keep yourself from knowing everything that happens even as an OOC force.
• Post OOC notes. This is what this thread will be for, so please don't pollute the thread when it goes up with non-IC stuff.
• Godmod other people's characters
• Kill someone before a murder is approved

Please:

 

• Use spoiler tags if you want something your character does to be private from others (e.g. whispering to another character)
• List the room or specific character you want to address to read a spoiler tag
• Bold any actions your character takes (and be specific with them if examining something!)
• Wait for my approval for actions that require a follow-up description or have the "@GM" spoiler tag.

You are allowed to swear, but keep it tasteful.

Short posts are okay for action-only posts. If you are talking or interacting with another character, please try to have a couple of sentences of content, just so the addressed person will have something to play off of.

Please write with respect to the English language. A few spelling or grammar mistakes is fine; in fact, I'm a terrible speller and spellcheck is a life saver for me. Just make sure your posts are understandable.

 I just recently discovered Dangan Ronpa ^__^ I'm a little confused by the rules but I guess I'll join. Feel free to kill my character if you like, I don't mind.

Yeah, I'm sorry about how messy the rules are formatted. I'm going to revise it by tomorrow so it's clearer in some aspects (since, honestly I really was rushing it so I could get it posted during peak hours and I had to get to class and I couldn't find the Word document I prepped so I had to rewrite from memory and it was just aaaaaaghghghghg), but I believe the gist of everything is there.

 

Again, if there's anything anyone needs clarification on, feel free to ask!

Name: Clove Fletcher
Age: 17
SHSL: Super High School Level Maid
Appearance: 
Personality: Because of Clove being a maid, she has a habit of following orders despite the person not being her master. This also makes her a little OCD about things. Clove isn't sure how to interact with strangers but she guesses giving the person a latte or two would make her a friend. She fears people who gets mad easily since Clove loves to satisfy people's needs.

Biography: Clove's heart pounded as her Master dropped her off at Hope's Peak Academy. Looking up at the tall building, Clove grasped her sweaty hands around her suitcase as she forced herself to calm down. 'Since Master's not with me, who am I suppose to take orders from?' She thought. Clove Fletcher have been titled 'Super High School Level Maid' in her community when she saved her Master from being kidnapped for ransom. Also there was another task when Clove took care of the cockroaches that overtook her classroom without flinching. As a reward, Hope's Peak requested her to join their fabulous school. 'Master saved me from the streets when I was young, if it wasn't for him, I would be dead on the sidewalk. So now I shall do whatever he says. No matter what.' Taking a final deep breath outside, Clove stepped into the school.

Personality: Soft-spoken,cheerful,yet very manipulative.

 

Biography: Yuri is the daughter of the owner of a "Host Club" and an unknown male client. Living in a house of sin located in a nortotious neighborhood,Yuri was taught to act,lie and steal to survive. She started young,stealing money and jewelry off male clients while they were busy with the ladies. It escalated as she grew up,stealing from rings to watches and wallets in and out of school,from students and faculty. Anytime she was blamed by anything accounted missing,she would turn to her acting lessons to have them drop the charges or blame it on someone else. Even when she was accused and her acting didn't work,when searched she had nothing on her to prove the blame! As she grew she started to take advantage of her innocent looks to steal from people at parks or at busy night-streets,asking for change to be able to eat,stealing the rest of their money after they had spared a quarter or two. Her collection of stolen goods grew more and more each day,including the clothing she wears today. A thief at heart she still passed her grades with flying colors,most of it by hard work,the other half by stealing answers here and there. She was one day offered to attend to Hope's Peak Academy,and what a joy it was for her and her mother. She would attend to one of the most prestigious schools of the country and that meant a great opportunity for her future(Along with lots of stuff she might want to steal). But when she did get to the academy,it didn't turned out how she expected,as all she remembers is passing out at the entrance and waking up in S.S. Despair...she has never had to kill before to get what she wants,including her life...that would change today.

SHSL: Figure Skater 

Appearance: Nevy is a somewhat pale girl that's 5'6. Her hair is pale brown and reaches down to her mid-back; she has hazel eyes. She usually wears a white muffler that she hides half of her face in at times and wears grey sweater over her school uniform shirt ( which is white). The hope's peak academy  insignia is on her jacket. She wears a back skirt, long white-blueish leggings and dark brown school shoes. Nevy wears snowflake earrings and a necklace with an ice skating show on it as a gem.

Personality: Nevy usually gets along with everyone and tries to avoid conflict. She's also really good at giving advice to others. She tries to keep a calm and cool type of personality around others.

Biography: Since the age of 5, Nevy has been on ice for years. She started to take an interest for ice skating when she saw it on TV and asked her parents if she could try it. Since they lived near a local skating ring, they didn't turn her down and she signed up the next week. The instructor took not at how fast Nevy was advancing through her lessons, she even passed the older kids that has been practicing for months and she managed to surpass them within a few weeks. She went to her first ice skating competition within the next year and easily won. Nevy has been to competitions ever since. She came in first place every and became so good at it that she made it to the Olympics level. Even though she conquered that, she rather compete nationals so she hasn't been to the Oymipcs for another go at it. Still, she keeps practicing hard to continue skating professionally in the years to come.

We now have 4 characters that have been approved, so we're just a quarter of the way there to being able to start!

 

I have revised the first post to clarify and bring up a few points that I felt needed to be addressed. Specifically, the spoiler tag / actions system has been greatly expanded on, the murder request app has been expanded, some extra fluff at the top was added, and a list of the approved characters was added to keep a nice database to prevent duplicate SHSL skills and to know who's controlling who.

 

Please remember to give it a quick read-over, and feel free to ask any questions if the need arises.

(Also just as a side note I'm more concerned with overpowered people than people with questionable SHSL skills, but since this is high school I cannot either confirm nor deny that notion unless they were actually 35 years old or something or if you could really convince me that you can pull it off)

Why, of course you can! The reason for asking people to PM me their character sheets over straight up posting them here is so anything that you want to keep secret from the other participants in the roleplay can just be between you and me. Dangan Ronpa has a few characters that have personal twists when it comes to their backstory or whatever, so this way I can keep the same spirit from the games if someone wants to go that route.

 

Just send me a character sheet, and if I approve it, anything goes as long as the rules are followed.

So my character got accepted (to my surprise, thank you again Jilly, I honestly thought I'd be a complete fail) so here it isss. Just know that i removed a lot of stuff out, stuff that i wanted to keep secret from the rest of y'all but it's still technically "their". sooo uhhswag.

Appearance:

 

Personality: Gizmo comes off as a cool and just character - however, it's been said that he really is too extreme in his beliefs. He is an excellent actor, and it is hard to tell when he's being serious and when he isn't.

 

Biography: Born and raised into whole acting scene, Wendell had been manipulated and bossed around all his life. Despite that, as a famous young actor, he was given everything - and he thought that compensated for the years of being left alone, with nobody his age to play with. He had his first big break when he was 7, and the movie offers just kept rising and rising as he grew older. His parents gladly accepted the money that came with it, and they honestly thought they were doing the best possible thing for their child.

 

He's been this way for years, and for years he's endured it. He's attempted at getting harmful substances but has never gone through with it. He's pretty well-known; he's been in more shitty teen dramas movies than he can keep count for.

Ah, that's fine! Don't worry, anyone who submits their first character has higher priority over someone who enters a second one. I'll explain more if we have to resort to second characters to reach the minimum amount of needed characters.

Name: Aurora Stadtfield

Age: 16

SHSL: Super High School Level Bisexual Gamer

 

Appearance:

 

 

Personality: Aurora is a quiet and distant girl; she doesn't like speaking really, unless it is through a chat program or headset. The girl hates to be forced into a conversation she does not want, nor does she like being forced to leave something unfnished. Aurora also hates being wrong, and argues util there is no way she is right - and she will admit when she is wrong, ulike others.

 

Biography: Born to wealthy parents, Aurora was spoiled but unloved. Her life was spent in gaming, day i and day out. She identified with video game characters more then actually people, to the point she lost most, if not all, social skills in face to face conversation. Her parents did their best to get her social again, but in the end, she became an amazing gamer that earned the eye of Hope's Peak, where they offered many video game related classes. Her parents pushed for her to join, and soon enough...she was on the way to Hope's Peak.

Until, that is, the S.S Despair Happened.
