Sorry. This is going to be a rant but I need to get this off my chest. I will try to be polite.I’ve heard a lot of hopes and speculation about possible KH III worlds and most of them, quite frankly, in my own personal opinion, are just terrible. Pixar, Marvel Star Wars, Indiana Jones, yeah, okay, I can sort of see where you’re coming from, though I’m still not a fan of those ideas, but when things like Kim Possible, Sofia the First, Chrono Trigger and even HARRY POTTER are being added into the mix, it’s time for a wake-up call. What’s wrong with just sticking to FF and the Disney canon? Why are people trying to push KH away from the very thing that made it great in the first place?
There are fifteen main numbered titles in Final Fantasy (or rather, there will be by the time KH III rolls around) and that’s not even counting all the sequels, spin-offs and sub-series. As for Disney.
Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, Pinocchio, Fantasia, Dumbo, Bambi, Saludos Amigos, The Three Caballeros, Make Mine Music, Fun and Fancy Free, Melody Time, The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad, Cinderella, Alice in Wonderland, Peter Pan, Lady and the Tramp, Sleeping Beauty, One Hundred and One Dalmatians, The Sword in the Stone, The Jungle Book, The Aristocats, Robin Hood, The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh, The Rescuers, The Fox and the Hound, The Black Cauldron, The Great Mouse Detective, Oliver & Company, The Little Mermaid, The Rescuers Down Under, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, The Lion King, Pocahontas, The Hunchback of Notre Dame, Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan, Fantasia 2000, Dinosaur, The Emperor's New Groove, Atlantis: The Lost Empire, Lilo & Stitch, Treasure Planet, Brother Bear, Home on the Range, Chicken Little, Meet the Robinsons, Bolt, The Princess and the Frog, Tangled, Winnie the Pooh, Wreck-It Ralph, Frozen
These are all the movies in the Disney animated canon. Bold indicates entries that have not been featured, or even referenced within the KH canon.
Big Hero 6, Zootopia, Giants, Moana, King of the Elves, The Name Game, Untitled Teen Space Race Film
And these are all the movies that are currently in development for the canon (good news for Marvel fans, the first one is based on a Marvel Comic) I believe there's even one in the works focusing of Mickey Mouse himself. It will be his first entry into the Disney animated film canon.
Now, don’t get me wrong. I’m not just some blind Disney fanboy, I know just having the Disney name on it doesn't turn crap into gold, I realize there are some genuinely terrible movies in the first list, but there are also many excellent movies that are not as popular just because they didn't gross billions at the box office. You can’t sit there and tell me that many of these movies would be better suited to KH than Disney’s more recent acquisitions can you?
I realize this post may sound bitter and more than a little bias and I’m sure I will get flamed by at least one person, but I sincerely think the fan focus for possible worlds in KH has shifted too much toward properties Disney has acquired in their rapid race toward global domination through total media control because it’s new and fresh while many of these are old and forgotten.
Rant over.
P.S. Despite this being a rant I would appreciate feedback. I will try to keep an open mind to all parties who can be reasonable and insightful weather they agree with me or not. We will never change each other’s minds, but at least we can listen.
