Is it just me, or does anyone else get annoyed or seriously pissed off when one of your friends/rivals, in-game of course, interferes in your saving the world? For instance, Cheren in Pokemon Black and White. The way he talks about strength for one is annoying itself, but when he constantly gets into your business when you're supposed to be the hero who saves the Pokemon pisses me off. I think they did a better job with Calam in X and Y, he's at least much nicer and doesn't seem to get too involved, but there are still situations where he gets on my nerves.

 

Am I the only one who feels this way, or is it relatively normal to basically hate your rivals? 

Well, I feel it's basically normal to hate your rivals in the Pokemon games.  But the most interesting rival out of all the bunch was N from Black and White.  (I know he wasn't the main rival of those games, but he did come to you from time to time.)  He had a compelling backstory, and he was interesting to battle with.  But yeah, rivals are douches.

Every other rival just seems to care about strength and nothing more.

Yep, that's true, N could be considered a groundbreaking change of pace in rivals in the Pokemon games.  We'll see if another rival like him comes along in future entries in the series.  And yes, Gary is too much of a showoff, lol.

well actually i didnt like how the friends/rivals you have in x/y dont really interfere at all. (i like it when they interfere during the climax)

I usually like the rivals, even the ones that are jerks.

I miss the days when my friend/rival was the final thing keeping me from saving the world- good old Gary/Green/Blue

I've always liked the rivals. Especially Gary. 

The only rival I ever got that feeling from is Cheren. He was annoying as fire truck lol to be honest I always considered N my true rival in that game.

Exactly! Shauna seems like she's so young, so I know she wants to prove herself, but when she shows up at the end and wants to help I think "No, it's too dangerous for her here, she'll get hurt." But then Calem just lets her tag along!

I'm like: "UGGGGGGH! COME OOOOON!" 

 

As far as Calem is concern, he's alright.  But that boy shocked the mess out of me when I saw him Mega Evolving his Absol.   I kept wondering how in the world did he obtained a Mega Ring...

Technically they all are, although N is more of an enemy rival. Cheren is that 'friendly' rival, and Bianca just has no idea what's going on it's not even funny.

I agree that N is the best rival, but not because of his strength or Pokemon. I think because of his story and the fact that he really is trying to do good in his own way, he just really can't see any other way to go about it, and the fact that along his journey he sees things that change his point of view and sees the world really is more than just black and white.

Totally agree with you here

 

His story is actually really sad,probably the saddest story in the Pokemon series,and I'm talking about his backstory,how he was an orphan raised by Pokemon and got manipulated by Ghetsis (whom N considered to be a father) who adopted him and made him a puppet boss for Team Plasma just so he can capture ResihramZekrom

 

And that cruel assholic speech from Ghetsis towards N at the end......Man if I were N I would've cried in shock of what I've heard

 

That moment I just said : I'm gonna defeat that son of a bitch.

 

Just the story alone(alongside BW 2's post game) makes Gen 5 my favorite generation
