Nintendo Direct Analysis: February 13, 2014

Posted

Hey guys, Black Star here. We got the first Nintendo Direct of 2014 today, and, like last time, I'm here to fanboy over everything that they showed. Well, not everything, but quite a few things. Also, just to make a note, I might miss a few things since my stream was lagging, or because they were kind of minor (Like the indie games). Anyway, I'll give my score out of 10 on how excited I am at the end of each mini-review. Now, let's-a go!

Super Smash Bros for 3DS and Wii U (2014)

I'll be totally honest, I was shouting in excitement at the fact that they opened up with a Smash Bros 4 trailer. The shouting kept up when I saw who it was: Little Mac. He's not a particular favorite character of mine, but I've been kind of suspecting his arrival for a while now, and hey, he fits Smash Bros pretty well. He seems like an interesting character, and I like the looks of his power meter. We also got to see the health display for in-battle, which I don't think we've seen yet. That was pretty cool. 10/10

Mario Golf: World Tour (2014)

To be honest, I'm not a sports game kind of guy. I mean, I guess the customization looked kind of cool. Although, since I don't like sports games or golf, I must admit I'm not excited for this one. 2/10

Kirby: Triple Deluxe (2014)

As usual, I'm really looking forward to this one. The new collectibles that we saw sounded really interesting, as well as the new Streetpass features. Aside from those, there really weren't that many new features shown this time around. It still looks awesome though, and I can't wait to try it! We finally got a release date, too: May 2! 9/10

Yoshi's New Island (2014)

Once again, not too many new features. I did start to lag out during this part of the stream, so I might have missed something. Still, it looks like its standard Yoshi's Island gameplay. Of course, that's not a bad thing at all. I'm definitely looking forward to this game, too! 8/10

Steel Diver: SubWars (2014)

I never played the original Steel Diver, but I've heard its fairly boring. This game looked kind of interesting, and its free, so why the heck not? I might as well download it when I'm done typing this up. 5/10

Rusty's Real Deal Baseball (2014)

Once again, I'm not into sports games. This one looked decent, since its minigames, but still kind of eh. I lagged a lot during this one, so I can't say much on it. I went back and watched some of it, but it didn't look too interesting still. 4/10

Pokemon Battle Trozei (2014)

I never played the original Trozei, but it looked like a good pick up and play type of game. This one looks fun too, especially with the whole battle element involved. Once again, I lagged a lot, so I don't have much to say. I did watch the trailer afterwards, though, and it looks really fun. 7/10

Professor Layton and the Azran Legacy (2014)

Meh, not interested in the Prof. Layton series, to be honest. I don't have anything to say on this one, really. 0/10

Monster Hunter 4 Ultimate (2015)

I still have yet to get Monster Hunter 3 Ultimate, but I'm still excited for this one. It's a franchise that I've wanted to get into for a while, and seeing that the next game comes out for 3DS next year is exciting news. I kind of wish there was a Wii U version, but hey, at least we're getting it, right? 8/10

Weapon Shop: de Omasse (2014)

This game sounded fairly interesting. Playing an RPG from the perspective of a shopkeeper sounded really cool, and it looks fun in general. I'll be sure to look into this one when it comes out! 7/10

Inazuma Eleven (2014)

Again, I'm not a sports game fan. This one looked kind of interesting, I guess. I'll be skipping out on it, though. 2/10

Donkey Kong Country: Tropical Freeze (2014)

This game's looking great, as usual. Not much to say here, but I'm definitely looking forward to getting this one soon! 8/10

NES Remix 2 (2014)

NES Remix with some of the more well-known games on the NES, such as Super Mario Bros 3 and Kirby's Adventure? Heck yes! I still have yet to get the first, but this one looks even more fun! I'm also interested in the Super Luigi Bros minigame, it seems like an interesting twist. Getting it for free with the game is a definite plus! 8/10

GBA games for Wii U Virtual Console (2014 and onward)

I had to give this one some sort of mention, right? I'm happy that we're finally getting to play GBA games on the Wii U! The selected games all look great as well, definitely the best starting lineup they could go for. I'm just hoping that The Legend of Zelda: Minish Cap will be another starting title. 9/10

Mario Kart 8 (2014)

This game looks beautiful, as usual. We also got to see that the Koopalings are now playable, and they're definitely a welcome addition by me. Aside from that, not much more than some new beautiful HD tracks. Can't wait for this one! 10/10

Monolith Soft's Untitled Wii U Game (TBA)

I can't stress how long I've been waiting for an update on this game. It's been nearly a year since the last trailer, and I'm glad to see that it's still going strong. The combat looks similar to Xenoblade Chronicle's, which is to be expected. However, the mech combat looks fantastic! I can't wait for this game, it's easily in my top 3 most anticipated Wii U games! 10/10

Bayonetta 2 (2014)

I'm honestly not interested in the Bayonetta games. I mean, it's cool for the fans that a sequel's coming, but I'm personally not buying it. 0/10

Overall: 107/160

Well, that's it for this month, folks! Hopefully we'll get another next month, I can't wait to see what news Nintendo has to share with us then!

Whoa whoa whoa... what were the GBA games announced? And why not for the 3DS as well? No complaints, that just seems curious.

They said a couple of games like Yoshi's Island and Metroid, but that was pretty much it. Wish I knew the reason the 3DS isn't getting them yet considering, ya know, it would make sense, but Nintendo seems to love not doing what makes sense. :^]

Yeah, it would make sense considerin they have regular Gameboy and Gameboy color games exclusively on the 3DS Virtual Console, that they were trying to somewhat have the original handhelds be part of the new handhelds...

I guess they know it's something people wanted, and put it to the Wii U in an effort to boost sales for it I guess. :/ A bit douchey.

Also, Yoshi's Island, firetrucking sold. EDIT: Thought still questionable that they don't put the original SNES version on the store but whatever.

If I had money on my Wii U, I would buy Metroid Fusion HD from the Virtual Console.

Metroid Fusion, Mario and Luigi: SuperStar Saga, and Yoshi's Island, with more to be seen in the future. I heard that GBA won't come to 3DS to keep those exclusive to 3DS ambassadors.

It won't be in HD, it's the GBA version emulated on the Wii U. :/

It's a good thing that I bought my 3DS on day 1 lol. I'm one of the embassadors that was able to download the free GBA games.

Inazuma Eleven is actually a great Soccer RPG game. Kinda sad that it only got release now. I've played the Japanese version and it was awesome.  It's not exactly very soccer-ish, but you kinda train them and level them up to learn awesome new moves, whether it be a defence or offence move. If you like those anime/dragonball-kind of moves, you'll love this game.

Other than that? MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4MH4Bayonetta2Kirby!

I bought it as soon as Nintendo posted it on the eShop and haven't looked back since. It really reminds me of some weird amalgamation of Fire Emblem and those Mario sports RPGs Camelot used to make (i.e. the GBC version of Mario Tennis), except reskinned as a soccer game with an even heavier emphasis on RPG elements during matches.Consequently I'm finding it equally as hard as Fire Emblem, but I think it's one of those games where you get better once you know what you're actually doing, kind of like playing TWEWY for the first time.

I'll probably have to look at a trailer, then. I didn't see many RPG elements in the Direct livestream, maybe the trailer will show them off better.

I probably should have specified that it plays a lot like an in-depth version of Blitzball from FFX, except that it's actually... ya know... fun. lol So in that respect, it's more like a real-time strategy game than, say, a turn-based one. I don't even like soccer that much, but so far I'm really having a blast with it.

Ooh, alright. xD It looked like an RTS, I just wasn't sure if there was more to it than that. A fun version of Blitzball sounds interesting. xD

I barely enjoyed anything they announced for the 3DS aside from Kirby, MH4U, and Yoshi's New Island (I'm a bit skeptical about Yoshi's transformations though...).  Little Mac wasn't that interesting to me. Mario & Luigi Superstar Saga's the only Starting title I'm interested in for GBA VC, though, They would have had me with The Minish Cap.

Mario Kart 8 looked beautiful, but I dun really care about the koopalings. Bowser and Bowser Jr. are good enough. Still waiting for Kirby. It's kinda unfair to make a misleading Rosalina trailer and hold back a brilliant idea of guest kart racers.

I'm really excited for Monolith Soft's new title.

Bayonetta 2 seems cool, but I never touched the original so I may skip on this one as well.

Trozei's gonna be $8, so I'll be sure to get that and play it with my friends.
