Lightning has replaced Cloud as the face of the franchise

Posted

It happened slowly, but it's happened. Cloud has been replaced as the face of the franchise. The Compilation of FINAL FANTASY VII was supposed to continue past Advent Children Complete, but it didn't. Why? Lightning became the face of the franchise. Lightning was the main character in FINAL FANTASY XIII, and while she wasn't in XIII-2, her sister was and the game only happened because of Lightning. And then in LIGHTNING RETURNS, for the first time ever only one character was playable. This was of course Lightning. And what else has been going on for Lightning? She's in FINAL FANTASY XIV: A Realm Reborn both to fight alongside you but also provide quests to unlock her gear. And what's the chance she's in FINAL FANTASY XV? I'd say quite high considering Square Enix confirmed she could appear in a future FINAL FANTASY game, and the new world in LIGHTNING RETURNS looks a lot like FINAL FANTASY XV's.

  • What about this little guy:     I always assumed it was the mascot of the franchise because he's almost in every games and there's always a chocobo theme playing somewhere

  • The face of a franchise isn't chosen by the fans.   Tell that to Kingdom Hearts II and Square Enix.

Any argument I've had with you I don't care. Sure I care enough to actually type stuff but I really don't care about the outcome. We're all just very opinionated people at the end of the day.

Well that's nice. Glad you enjoy our arguments. I don't, the only thing I can possibly get out of all this time wasting is increasing my post count.

All of you make good points. Cloud, and Titus are my favorite Final Fantasy characters. Although, he was the face of the franchise for many, many years I have to agree that he's lost his spotlight. And that lightning has been the Flagship character recently. I personally agree with both sides, in certain aspects. Yes, Square makes the games. But, they make profit from the fans. Who purchase there products. Companies will most likely go for whatever is selling best. The most popular usually sells the best. And in many of our eyes, we see Cloud as the more popular character. I believe Lightning will remain the Franchise character so long as she remains popular, and the profits are good.

One more post than you've had before right? One more headache as well.

No, it's not. Square Enix are the ones who make the games, it's up to them.

Yes but it's the fans that decide if they are popular or not.

Yes, and the FINAL FANTASY games continue to sell.

I don't honestly remember typing the word "enjoy" in my post but rather I said I don't care, but good to know that we're all wasting our time here.

Yes. You've proved your point, Sora96. We get it. I suggest you lock this topic to prevent any more arguments.

Well it's my topic. Lol.

Yay!

Well a more recent interview said Lightning could appear as a guest character in a future FF game.

Well they already stated that both games are completely seperate so I doubt XV will one of those future games :)

Whether the fans like it or not, Lightning is the face of the company. Square Enix confirmed this a long time ago, in a whole video dedicated to Lightning Returns. They said she is their idol, and her picture is like all over the place in their offices.

I don't mind, Cloud is cool but I like Lightning better, but I never really finished FFVII due to my copy keep on freezing after you escape the church in the beginning with Aerith so its not right for me to compare. Regardless of that, I still like Lightning, and I don't understand what is the big deal. Sooner or later, another FF game is going to come out with a big protagonist which gains sequels and sequels and that protagonist is going to be the face then.

Lightning might be lacking personality at times, but it truly does shine a lot, and thankfully LR:XIII and some parts of XIII explained why she acts like that.

This argument is very enjoyble as someone who read all the 3 pages.

Cloud=amouts of games he appeard in can't be count with 4 hands or barley

Lighting=.amouts of games she appeard can be count with 1 hand.

Just saying.

Not that I  care tho, as I hate cloud, and lightning=failled clone of cloud.

And this is why I love your comments.

Sorry,but NO

Heck Lightning herself is a female clone of Cloud

This.

Accepting that Lightning is being pushed as the modern face of the franchise, can we ask whether or not that is necessarily a good thing? Considering both the character and the games she's appeared in have divided the classic fanbase more than perhaps any of the other games have done, does saying she is now synonymous with Final Fantasy run the risk of losing many of the older fans' future interest in the series?
