This means a much higher risk of getting hacked for users, and that's just one example... Thanks, Microsoft. -_- Glad I don't use anymore, but this sucks for people who do. Not everyone's able to put down the money for a new OS.
March 9, 201411 yr This was announced years ago, and it's about time. It was released in like 2001. You can easily pick up Windows 7 or 8 for a cheap price these days.

March 9, 201411 yr Author is still the most stable OS created by microsoft I find Windows 7 better personally, but I feel bad for those who are still using and are now at risks of being hacked.
March 9, 201411 yr is still the most stable OS created by microsoft Hardly, it's always had security issues.
March 9, 201411 yr Author Which version? Ultimate? I was never told what version, my friend who has just searched it and told me that 7 costs that much.
March 9, 201411 yr I was never told what version, my friend who has just searched it and told me that 7 costs that much. If it's Ultimate or Professional that's a good price. And anyway, WindowsXP is ancient now. People should be lucky they supported it this long, they wanted to cut it years ago.
March 9, 201411 yr What freaks me out is that all the computers at my college use windows 7, and when I borrow a laptop that is supposed to help with captioning during class (which it does), it still uses that Windows . I wanted to throw the laptop at the wall sometimes.
March 9, 201411 yr Just realized that all your smilies were actually an attempt at typing out "X.P". That can get annoying from time to time. Other than that, I can't really say I have much of a PERSONAL opinion regarding the shift. I understand that a lot of people may still use the OS, but I also believe that people need to inevitably upgrade, especially when considering the pace that technology advances. It also makes sense from a business stand-point, Microsoft shouldn't have to struggle to maintain a product for a crowd that might be better off with a newer, more advanced version of that product. I know that the price can be a bit steep, especially for someone that actually doesn't mind using WindowsXP. Like I said though, had to happen eventually. But I do agree with you that it sucks these people might end up getting their system's hacked, since they might not be following the news that support's being pulled. Hope things turn out alright in the end. Edited March 9, 201411 yr by Arcmin
March 9, 201411 yr Lol this is great for technicians. System prep for Windows adds an extra hour charge to customers. People won't get hacked really. Unless of course you download a rootkit or something. Security updates for normal users are really just patches for exploits in XP's code. In other words its virus protection in the actual softwares code. They wanted to get rid of earlier because it was so much easier to take advantage mostly due to so many holes in the OS. Either way Windows 7 and 8.1 are good as long as someone has a PC with a dual processor and more than 2 GB of RAM.
March 9, 201411 yr Security issues are due to the inability of the user. Ive been running for years and never without anti virus. most businesses still use cause of the low level requirements and stability. its also been the only OS Microsoft has released that is still available and the longest anyone has last. Vista being a disaster and 7 and 8 can be shelled down to which is still the foundation. but to each his own
March 9, 201411 yr I've been using Windows 8 for a while, and I'm still trying to get used to it In therms of stability, was the best really (:
