I'm introducing a relative to the KH saga, and since I don't own any of the KH consoles, we're watching walkthroughs. For KH1, Re:CoM, and Days, I'm using KH 1.5 ReMix.

I think we're going to be ready for KH2 before 2.5 comes out, in which case we'll have to use either the original KH2 or subbed scenes from KH2FM. I'm definitely going to show him the Lingering Sentiment battle and the scene where Xemnas talks to Aqua's armor, but aside from that, is there anything significant that we'll miss by using the original KH2 instead of KH2FM?

A bunch of extra cut scenes exploring relationships between characters and hints at BBS

A lot of stuff. A lot of things that improve gameplay and flesh out the story. KH2 FM was the basis for a lot of the things expounded upon in BBS, for instance.

Aside from the scene where Xemnas talks to Aqua's armor, the Lingering Will, and the secret movie at the end, is there anything majorly relevant to the main plot? I've only seen bits of KH2FM.

And as far as gameplay goes, it doesn't matter. He's in it for the story.

Well, there's a scene during Roxas' week where Axel talks to Namine, a scene in TWTNW where they explain why Roxas woke up from inside Sora so suddenly as well as one with Axel and Roxas speaking to each other for the last time and a scene during the second Armored Xamnas where it's implied that Sora may have remembered Namine after she and Roxas finally completely rejoined Kairi and Sora.

Just little details that flesh out the story of KH II but don't necessarily connect it to other titles.

Kingdom Hearts II Final Mix is so much better.

KHIIFM. Do it, man.

The reason I'm leaning towards the original is because I know that he's going to find the English voices much more engaging than Japanese voices with English subs. He's going to see Xemnas talking to Aqua's armor, the Lingering Sentiment, and the Secret movie.

Final Mix version are always better then the original.

Hahahahahahahah Honey that's like comparing Frozen(Basic Version) to Frozen(Sing-Along Version). There's no competition that the latter is the better version. So Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix to answer your question.

I either misunderstood the concept of Kingdom Hearts's Final Mixes or you missed out on the fact, that the Final Mixes always have english voices. Since the cutscenes are more relevant for you, that should be okay then, cause only the text will be in japanese. The additional cutscenes are mute though and I think there are voiced versions too for completing Re:Chain of Memories in KH2FM+ or something. Those are voiced in japanese though, so you'd have to find fan-subbed ones.

So in short, I'd go with the Final Mix.

There is English voices, the only Japanese voices there will be is for the extra scenes

Yeah, so wait for 2.5 like everyone else. I guarantee you it'll be worth it over rushing into 2 before the new game comes out.

Yea I think you guys should wait for 2.5 no need to rush into the KH story and over flowing your mind with so many things going on since the KH story can be hard to follow from time to time.

Wait for Kingdom Hearts 2 Final Mix.  The game has so much more things than the normal version.  Don't worry, the game should come out soon. After all, we're already in the third month of the year, so Nomura should release the game sooner or later! :P

KH2FM on PS2 has English voices...

But you should wait until KH2FM comes out in English for the PS3, imo. It'll be far worth the wait to have him experience FM's extras in his his first playthough in HD.

Some new cutscenes .
