Anyone Remember When the Elite Four were a Challenge?

Posted

I remember back when they all had at least 5 Pokemon, and those Pokemon were decently tough to battle. Gen V's were still kind of tough, but they cut the amount of Pokemon to 4, which bugged me. X/Y's elite four, while I really liked the typings and the characters themselves, felt like they were a joke in terms of battles. I hope that they won't cut the Elite Four's team in OR/AS to four each, that would be really disappointing.

Then add the fact XY didn't even upgrade the lvs of the elite 4, which at least BW did.

I doubt they'll put it to 4 Pokemon. HGSS didn't do this iirc.

I don't think that R/S/E upgraded levels either, but yeah, they should have done that in X/Y.

Gen IV was before they cut the number down to four, I think.

Um...when was this? They've never posed a challenge to me.

The only Elite Four I had a challenge with were Gen 5's Elite four specifically Black and White 2,those were legitimately challenging

Sure Gen 6 had a higher level Elite four but they were really pathetic with 4 Pokemon each instead of 5 or 6

Honestly, I love the recent Pokemon games, but the way they've made the gym leaders and Pokemon League is unacceptable, in my opinion. Only three Pokemon for gym leaders? Four for the Elite Four? These battles, along with the evil team, are supposed to be the main challenge of the game. A player can feasibly have a full party of six Pokemon by the time they get to the FIRST gym battle. Getting into the mid to late game, a three party team should not be very difficult to take down with a six party team of adequately leveled Pokemon. I mean, in FireRed (just as an example) Sabrina, Koga, and Blaine all had four Pokemon, then Giovani had five. Half the gym leaders in FireRed had a number of Pokemon equal to or exceeding X/Y's Elite Four.

I'm not one who calls for every game to be hard, but honestly Pokemon needs to have some challenge. I don't even get excited to fight gym leaders anymore, as I rarely even get close to losing. :(

Honestly, I think gym leaders should have a max at 5, then the Elite Four should have 5-6, and the Champion should always have 6.

Man, you guys must grind ten levels higher than the gyms and Elite Fours, since I had trouble with every one of them...well, not everyone, but I still felt like I was in trouble with the majority in each game.

am i the only one that had an extremly hard time with Drasna and Siebold? ESPECIALLY siebold. his dragon dancing gyrados was almost imposible to beat!

but the champion was a joke. i have to agree there.

lol why did you let Siebold use DD numerous times? Anyone who lets that happen ain't going to have a splendid ride. Dransa was too easy compaired to other Dragon gym leaders/elite 4 members. I still blame the 4 slot Pokemon limit GF had.

i tried not to let him use it so many times. but i just couldent get his health down enough. >_<

Well, they used to be MORE of a challenge. Now they're pathetically easy. :

I don't grind much in the main storyline, and found them to be a breeze. I didn't even have to use the EXP Share in Y.

DON'T EVEN GET ME STARTED

I don´t know... in Pokemon Gold Silver and Crystal the elite 4 was easy, the only real challenge is Witney and her Almighty Miltank.

Oh geez, don't remind me of that horrible demon cow... That thing ruined my Nuzlocke of Silver. >_<

I think it's less that the games are easier and more that we as trainers are smarter and more efficient at playing the game. In Gen I we knew next to nothing about pokemon it was a learn as you go process and that's what made it so challenging compared to it's predecessors. Five generations later we know all about the workings that make a powerful pokemon and have a firm understanding of what it takes to sweep each game. I myself have not lost a single in game battle (With the exception of Red) since Gen I. Grant you some of the E4s are lackluster compared to other ones but even a noob understanding of pokemon would know all you need to beat the Kalos Elite Four are pokemon of the following types Dragon, Grass, Fire, Water and Steel or Poison. The players are smarter plain and simple. That's why so much more emphasis is placed on competitive play then in game content. Except Red NO ONE out plays Red........

Well, to be fair, we haven't had a champion as tough as those two in a while, either. xD

I honestly only really had Emerald out of the Hoenn three (I had Ruby for a short time, don't think I ever finished it), but I like what I saw of Steven. I think that I prefer Lance, Green/Blue, and Cynthia, though.

Cynthia is honestly my favorite Champion with Lance coming as a very close second, both are challenging and they have an amazingly epic champion theme especially Cynthia...as for the battle with Cynthia I can sum it up in one word:GARCHOMP.....seriously that Garchomp is a nightmare and if you don't have an Ice type you're gonna be wrecked especially if you're doing a nuzlocke with dup clause rules

They still are.  I've never beaten any of them.

That Garchomp is the worst Pokemon any champion's ever used, it's so overpowered. xD I like Green (I call him by his Japanese name since I honestly think it fits better ._.) since him being champion played on the rivalry thing, making the battle feel way more personal. Lance was just really cool in general. Cynthia was probably the toughest.

Gen 6's was harder than Gen 5. Gen 5 you could keep healing at the Pokemon Center.

Yeah I'm pretty sure they locked the gates the moment you step through.
