OMG how did I not see this before?

I was reviewing the early BbS cutcenes and I realized something. It is very likely that Master Xehanort convinced Master Eraqus not to proclaim Terra as a Keyblade Master by feeding on the latter's fear of loosing one of his pupils to the darknesss. There are lines that hint at this possibility.

1. When delivering the result ME says "We have deliberated, and made a decision." Key word here, "we", not "I" This heavily implies that Xehanort had a say in the decision as well. Eraqus may have been on the fence about making Terra a master and Xehanort' input was the final nail in the coffin. This is by far the most damning piece of evidence.

2. MX tells Vanitas that he has to "keep up appearances". while that obvious that he means he's convinces Eraqus that he's given up on the x-blade as well as darkness in general, those thinks would also make Eraqus more likely to take his advice.

3. Eraqus tells Terra that "if it were up to me I'd name you master in a second" this further implies that he did not make the decision alone.

By convincing Eraqus to not make Terra a master, he manages to alienate him, allowing his darkness to grow unchecked so he can then pretend to be the good guy, take Terra under his shadowy wing, stroke the boys ego and get close to the would-be master all in preparation to make the pupil his first vessel.

So did anyone else miss this or am I just incredibly slow on the uptake?

I thought this was something... everyone knew?

So...

You are saying Master Xehanort convinces Eraqus not to make Terra a Keyblade Master, because the whole talk about "fear of loosing one of his pupils to the darknesss".

THAT right there, was the very start of him "Nearly, guiding those 3 in their proper places"?

Well, technically the start was when Young Xehanort met his future Heartless, but still it's possible that Eraqus may have made Terra a master had Xehanort not advised him against it. Until last night I was sure it was all Eraqus, (not that I was mad at him I always just assumed he was begin over protective) but now I'm thinking I may have been wrong. Xehanort was behind everything else, why not this? So, yeah, kinda.

Lol that was explained in the Xehanort Reports via MX's letter to Eraqus.

Please accept my deepest gratitude for the invitation to witness your pupils' accession to the office of true Keyblade Master. It was a heavy mantle our Master placed upon your shoulders naming you Successor, but you have nonetheless persevered and raised two Masters yourself. I know it cannot be easy.

I did you terrible harm in the past over a petty difference in opinion, and just a few years ago selfishly thrust my own burdens upon you. I think of you like a younger brother, and yet, fool that I am, I have never availed myself of countless opportunities to apologize or thank you for opening your home to the boy. Yet not once have you blamed me; on the contrary, here you are inviting me to such an important ceremony. I intend to be there to offer you all my blessings.

Our Master chose his heir wisely. Ours is a bizarrely ironic task—to watch over the light from the shadows—but in the face of that, the warmth in your heart and unfailing dedication to the light impress me to no end.

I have taken to wandering the World, and seen much darkness hiding in the light. Lately, I fear it has taken a turn for the worse. Perhaps Yen Sid has already told you about the Unversed? These fledgling emotions derive from negativity, and I can now sense their presence in nearly every world.

And on the topic of darkness: we must speak of another matter that concerns me, one related to the upcoming ceremony. When I visited several years ago, your pupil Terra drew my attention. His power is immense, to be sure, but within his heart I could see darkness just waiting to be awakened. I know this is none of my business, but I have reservations about welcoming Terra as a true Keyblade Master without taking certain precautions. The traditional examination, perhaps, to see if he has the Mark of Mastery? The choice is yours, and I will humbly respect your decision.

Take care. I eagerly await our long overdue reunion.

It wouldn't have convinced me, "Yen Sid" and "Our master" could still refer to the same person. but we'll find out soon enough. I'm not going to get in to it now.

Fair enough agree to disagree lol. :)

Wow, I never saw that letter before... I always thought Eraqus was just doing what he thought was best and trying to follow the rules. He wanted in his heart to name Terra a Master, but in his head he was worried that he wasn't ready. That WAS my theory, anyway. Now...XEHANORT YOU %&$*#(@&!!!

<end anger of fan whose fave character is Terra>

Yep. Just like you don't see the point in revealing Yen Sid  was there master after all this time, I don't see the point in withholding thei master's name unless it was someone important we already knew. I wouldn't push my opinion on to you, but I'll defend it until i'm unequivocally proven wrong.

I mean, I know this whole mess has started when Young Xehanort met his future Heartless. I was putting that, and other stuff that has happen before the Mastery Exam aside.

I was meant to say that the very first thing you mention, was they very cause of Terra becoming one of the Dark Vessels instead.

Because I was thinking something else was the cause in BBS.

Yep, MX convincing ME not to proclaim terra a master was the start of Terra's decent into darkness.

These hints confirms that Xehanort is an old clever fox.

I never thought about that, but you make a very compelling point.

For number 3, it's more about professionalism

I thought everyone could see Xehanort clearly orchestrated this along with everything else!
