Naruto Shippuden is awful except for the pain arc. That was the only part I truly enjoyed. The first naruto series was vastly superior.

Bleach also sucks.

(This is going to turn into the "Firaga and Spider Argue About Unpopular Anime Opinions", isn't it? )

 

• The ending of the Buu Saga at least took things in an interesting/new direction but not only having Goku's Spirit Bomb take energy from the ENTIRE universe but having a comedic/actually endearing human character in Mr. Satan help take charge in the matter.
• I've never cared for Gohan as a main character so I don't really care about his role in the Buu Saga.
• Krillin and Piccolo at least still got to fight/do important in the Buu Saga and freaking Krillin got to fight Kid Buu of all people (its filler but shut up. lol)
• Yamcha and Tien aren't in the same category because they lost relevance ages ago at that point.
• Naruto and Sasuke being given the power of the Sage makes sense in hindsight when you realize that other events like Black Zetsu and Kaguya are stirring up in the future.
• The point isn't that every single member of the new generation can blow stuff up better than the old generation. All of the Hidden Leaf Eleven plus Sai matured and grew stronger by the end to a point where they become great tacticians/soldiers and had potential to become even greater once they became old as shit just like Hashirama and the others, because a) they're still teenagers and b) Hashirama and the others didn't hit their OP stride until adulthood. lol And again, Naruto and Sasuke are exceptions because screw you, that's why. lol

 

• More like it fell off a cliff, soared like an eagle, and saved itself from dying.

 

* Fair enough, Buu saga have to courage to play around with new things, and Krillin and Piccolo did get to fight, but granted, it ended up like most other fights in DBZ do that aren't about the characters who are actually strong enough to hold their own against the villains are, they get tossed aside like fodder as always. They were still important though, i'll give you that.

 

*Even so, the way that they got the power up out of nowhere and how Kishi probably made that plot point up super fast rather than planning to implement it in advance (i remember a year prior that Kishimoto said he STILL didn't know how to have them defeat Madara at the time) , and let alone didn't even train for it felt like it diminished the worth of it in my eyes. But given the situation and how far Kishimoto had gotten into the battle, he didn't really have a choice but to do that. This is why writing needs to be planned ahead IMO, and not just made up on the fly while making the series itself.

I am not sure if my opinions are unpopular or just opinions.I actually like harem anime protagonists, and wish they would get fleshed without needing girls to be around them in nearly every progression! That being said I find harem animes annoying with all the drama between all the characters. And often I wish for an anime in that setting with the same protagonist, but without all the girls gushing over him. Maybe having a good portion of girls that couldn't care less about the protag in a romantic way. And more other male characters. 

Also I don't actually care if an anime is flooded with 'fanservice' or not. What I care about is that if the fanservice gets in the way of the story progressing. 

I don't actually know what the general consensus is on this, so this might be a popular opinion, I dunno, but here it goes:

 

The Devil is a Part-Timer! was pretty much garbage. The plot was unique, but also stupid. The dialogue was bad, and I'm pretty sure that the people who dubbed it knew and told the VAs to ham it up for that explicit reason. There were a number of lengthy scenes where the characters in Ente Isla (probably spelled that wrong) spoke in nonstop gibberish (which sounded to me like they frankensteined a bunch real languages together to make it) and there were no provided subtitles to give any inkling of what they were supposed to be saying. Some characters were essentially pointless. And the show could never really decide if it wanted to be pure comedy or to be taken seriously.

 

That said... I very much enjoyed watching it. It was highly entertaining.

I don't know what to say about this, but here goes.

 

1) DragonBall was way to long battle wise. The show itself seemed a little boring, ESPECIALLY the battles. Every time, Krillin dies, then gets revived. What was the whole point of those deaths? Just to motivate Goku to go Super Saiyan.

 

2) Then there's One Piece. Just knowing the number of episodes tells you it should die. Every character Yells or whispers their attacks, which is annoying. And once they meet a villain, they never really battle them again. Every villain they encounter thinks they are the most powerful thing on the planet. Also, they talk too much about their powers and back stories. I didn't watch very much, but my brother is, I get annoyed by him acting like the straw hats.

 

3) Attack on Titan is just plain gross. Eren just kept biting his hand just to fail, almost every time. A bunch of blood.

 

4) Hunter X Hunter was great at first, but then it just got annoying. With the bad guys always killing just to show how evil they were. Those scenes in the episodes were almost pointless. Then Kurapika and Leorio vanish into the side character material after Gon and Killua went into Greed Island.

 

5) Fullmetal Alchemist was okay, but had a few flaws. One was the death of Hughes. That was not cool. The Humunculi (I think that's how it's spelled) were so stinkin' annoying. Envy, no one cares about you, get lost! The endings of both versions were a little iffy.

 

6) Pokemon are still awesome in the games, but the show, completely different. Brock tried too hard to get a girl to like him. Ash in season one was unfair because he just had to beat team rocket at nearly every gym and he got a badge for each without fighting the gym leader. Team rocket was awesome until James changed his voice actor. Worst mistake they could ever make. And most of the girls despised Ash and kept calling him a kid.

 

7) Digimon. It was very great in plot and character development, I even have a favorite digimon, which obviously, is Veemon, but there were a few flaws with the seasons I got annoyed by. Again, saying their moves out loud, but this time, the digimon weren't ordered to attack by their digidestined, they just did it on their own while the children just moaned and complained about missing home. The digivolving scenes were very repetitive.

 

 

Now I will say what flaws many animes all have in common.

 

Every anime that has something to do with exploring the world has at least one Ghost houseCreepy kid stalking the main character(s). These episodes get really annoying for me cuz I feel like I've seen them before, cuz I have.

Another thing too is that cook off episode where the protagonists are slowed down by some stupid cooking showdown and the antagonists cheat or the judge of the cook off acts like a jerk and chooses the antagonist to win just because they were already working together to stop the protagonists.

One final thing to say is the repeated clips, lines, and character animations. Like the " How many times do I have to tell you, my name is Butch!" line from pokemon. Yeah, I think we've seen them all.

 

And that's all I have to say. I still like to watch animes, but when they do this kind of stuff it really bugs me. "Got it memorized?" *Whew*

I'd say its worth a watch if you're able to not take a show seriously and just enjoy the ride. It was pretty entertaining with some decent humor. It did have some fanservice (if you care about stuff like that), but compared to a lot of anime out there it was very tame.

I am not a fan of the excessive amount of fanservice in anime. We get it, you have boobs. Congrats.

You know how there's fanservice everywhere in anime? Like, you'll be hard pressed to find any currently airing anime that doesn't have fanservice. And I mean the nakedness and shit like that. This happens because the anime industry panders to its audience that pays. Usually it's the otakus or the like who would pay a whole lot of money to get some figma of their waifu.

 

The anime industry has to pander to that audience because that's who pays their bills. So, they give perverted material to the perverts. Now, to come back to my wish that anime never becomes mainstream.

 

Mainstream is a difficult word to define. Maybe I even used a poor word to describe what I don't want to happen. But, I'll define it as "A person completely new to the medium," because this is the point I want to get across. If it becomes mainstream, people who have nearly no idea what makes a good anime will be dishing out money to almost every anime, be it good or bad.

 

So, most companies making anime will see this trend, say "Shit, our awful anime is printing money, let's make more of that kind of anime," and the whole medium will be going down the drain.

 

Of course, some companies will continue to make good anime, but it will be drowned out by the bad stuff, because that type of anime just easier to make.

 

As another example, a few years back, and even now, though less prevalent, was the "Moe-blob" genre. Basically, if you seen K-On, that but a lot more boring. A bunch of cute girls doing cute things. One of those anime by itself may be good, but if you were forced to watch that almost all of the time, that would be boring. Those anime are relatively low effort compared to anime that is actually well written, well animated, well executed, and all that jazz.

I hate that I have to be super cynical with this, but Japan doesn't really give a shit about our opinion in terms of how an anime is made and handled. They're a very xenophobic nation, and the style and content of their anime depends on their tastes, not ours.

 

Besides, after the industry heads in the US got past their "let's make all anime corny and suitable for six year olds" mentality in the 90s, they've pretty much done a 180 since then. Companies like FUNimation, Viz Media, and even Aniplex are getting rights to all kinds of praise-worthy anime, and even if they get an anime filled with fanservice or moe-blob-ness, it's only one out of the countless titles that have been released in the past and are still being released today.

 

The point I'm trying to make is that the US is actually smart about how they handle anime, and even if it went mainstream, I doubt that film/TV heads who are responsible for churning out the mindless garbage we produce like reality television and soulless explosion-filled action movies would be able to damage that. All these companies are still in charge of handling these products, and the demand for good over bad has always been at an all-time high.

I find anime irritating to make myself sit down and watch. I don't know what it is, but I just cannot make myself do it.

 

No matter the case, I prefer mangas. I like the fact that I can be anywhere and read it unlike watching an anime, and I just overall prefer book presentation of things to movie or tv shows.

 

Am I missing out? Maybe, but I rarely care anymore.

I pointed out the fanservice as an example. What I'm trying to point out is low quality anime. Low quality meaning lazy writing, poor animation, and sporadic pacing. Fanservice may be a contributing factor, but I'm more worried about the other stuff I listed.

 

I was talking generally, not just the United States. It could become mainstream in the U.S., Russia, Australia, France, any high population place and it will affect the anime industry, because, like I said, it's for the money, not our tastes. I don't think they are xenophobic at all actually. Japan is very westernized, so I don't see how they are xenophobic, but not the point.

 

Those companies are smart, listening to the fanbase. The fanbase that gives them money. Of course they would get the license for the acclaimed anime, they know it will sell. But the audience for anime in the U.S. is relatively small, especially the paying audience. I'd argue most of the recently airing anime aren't praise-worthy at all, but again, not the point.

 

Both Japan and the U.S. companies aim to make money. That's the ultimate goal. So they will be smart with anime, at least in their eyes, by finding the best ratio of how much work they put in versus the amount of money they get out. If anime becomes mainstream, the balance will be tipped to have low quality versus high money. I don't believe I mentioned anything about U.S. companies unrelated to anime affecting the anime industry.

That's not what I'm saying. Continue to support the anime industry. I know it's in need of it. I won't shame anyone getting into anime. But, I'm against the whole idea of it being mainstream, because of the reasons I stated before. It sounds contradictory, I know, but I'm honestly not trying to discourage people getting into anime. 

 

Awful is subjective or objective, depending on the context. If I were to say, "This human feces tastes great!" is it suddenly good? No, obviously it's objectively awful tasting, because it's literally shit.

 

I'll take Sword Art Online as an example. The anime is "mainstream" in regards to the anime community. I see the anime is full of bullshit. For example, the obvious harem that is introduced halfway through the first arc. They waste so much valuable time on those girls that could've been invested in the relationship between Kirito and Asuna, but instead, we got a bunch of girls who fall in love with him because he's high leveled and romantically oblivious. There are more problems with it, but I found a handy list of a bunch of things wrong with the SAO anime. Oh, and here's one for the second season, just for kicks. And don't excuse the anime's shortcomings because that's how it was in the source material. If the anime studio had cared about quality, they would've either made it better or never touched it in the first place.

 

So, SAO is riddled with bad writing and bad pacing. Why is it so popular then? It's because it panders. It gets a cool sounding idea and just writes it like a 15 year old imaging what it would be like if he were a Gary Stu. It's a huge powertrip. It might be entertaining to you, but, to be brutally honest, you don't know what makes a good anime.

 

I apologize if I typed a bit of gibberish. I'm very sleepy. I just wanted to type this up real quick.
