His retirement alone might have hurt the studio.
August 3, 201411 yr This was expected anyway sense Miyazaki retired *sigh* But you will be missed Studio Ghibli TT-TT
August 3, 201411 yr This sucks! Yes, most of their movies that aren't directed by Miyazaki don't have a good story, but that's something they can work on!
August 3, 201411 yr Studio Ghibli Article: http://oh-totoro.com/post/93700803450/studio-ghibli-announces-closure-toshio-suzuki NO NO NO NO NO WHY WHY IS THIS HAPPENING? Of all anime studios to close,of all anime studios to vanish,Why Ghibli? I hate so much when a great studio like Ghibli puts so much effort into their works while other garbage studios(like the people behind Ikki Tousen) still lives and steal all the fame from those who actually deserves with the most generic cash-whoring techniques you can see in the industry? Farewell studio Ghibli,we will miss you
August 3, 201411 yr An anime studio that produces true works of art like Castle in the Sky, Kiki's Delivery Service, My Neighbor Totoro, and Spirited Away can get closed down while studios who make garbage fanservice anime stay in productionWhat a world we live in I would thumbs up but for the first time ever, I have hit my quota. But yes I agree, though I've honestly only seen a few Ghibli movies (trying to watch more when I get the time).
August 3, 201411 yr I'm sad for some reason, even though I have yet to see any of their movies. I hear such great things about them. Does anyone know if any of Studio Ghibli's stuff is on Netflix?
August 3, 201411 yr At least they're going out with their head held high. That's all you can really say about it.
August 3, 201411 yr Well let's not forget that everyone of those works of art you mentioned were made by Hayao Miyazaki, the highest grossing director in all of Japan, who is now retired. His retirement alone might have hurt the studio. While I cant deny the work Miyazaki has done, there was another that had potential, one that could have still led the studio int a new age,and that man was Hiromasa. He clearly showed that he was able to make good movies, one of those being The Secret World of Arriety, which was both highly acclaimed and well received, which I personally think it deserved,I couldnt get enough of it when it released. It also saddens me that his latest movie was also the last this studio will make, which is When Marnie Was There,Ive only heard good things from critics and regular people, and Ill be looking forward when it(hopefully know since the bad news) comes to the States personally, but I cant help but feel it fell victim to the dismay of Miyazaki leaving,I cant help but feel its low reception was all due to bad timing. And if two movies isnt enough to prove his capability he HAS worked on plenty of past Ghibli movies as well,so hes knows what hes doing I think. It still sucks though, the studio still could have made good movies without Miyazaki, and it sucks that it has to end like this. Edited August 3, 201411 yr by lostmemory123
August 3, 201411 yr Aw...That's a shame, it was a great studio. Farewell Studio Ghibli, you'll be missed. Also i guess this means no Ni No Kuni sequel.
August 4, 201411 yr They actually said they were just taking a break from making movies since they have nothing in the pipeline and the founders have retired, so there's still a chance they'll come back someday. But if they don't, then it is truly a shame since they've undoubtedly made some of the best animated films of all time and arguably some of the best films altogether.
August 4, 201411 yr Author Some good news, what J. Severe has stated is correct. Though they will be halting/closing for the time being, they did hint on the fact that they may be still producing movies.https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NXX9Epb4mHI Kotaku Article:http://www.kotaku.com.au/2014/08/studio-ghibli-is-not-dead-yet/ Anime News Network Article:http://www.animenewsnetwork.com/news/2014-08-03/ghibli-co-founder-suzuki-studio-considers-dismantling-production-department/.77263 Edited August 4, 201411 yr by Jaune Arc
