If you cannot see what I'm saying after several posts explaining exactly what I'm saying and how this HINDERS the cause there is no point to continue .Rioting isn't working for them either and causes MORE damage . He never advocated that - he was just calling attention that there was a real and deep issue going on. Now look at his actions and speeches on how he handled the problem as proof. As for the media I'm sayin' that unless you were there yourself you yourself are using the media as your source and there are biased media on both sides of the issue/propaganda.

I'm not saying he advocated that, so can you clarify what you meant? The problem of racial inequality still exists today, I wouldn't say it has been resolved. Peaceful protests are good, that's been established. Nobody pays as much attention to that as they should though. I don't recall seeing anything on the news about the community acting in a peaceful manner before the looting and vandalism began. Mainstream media takes the authorities' perspective when it should remain objective. Yes there are biased reports present from both sides, however I find it very hard to believe that what the people who are involved are posting is less accurate than what the news is covering.

Clarify ? I agree with you on several points .Yes racial inequality still exists and so do disgusting stereotypes. Yes the media contorts on both sides but you cannot use media  as your source while condemning using media as your source since it can be biased on both sides and you are contradicting yourself . My main point is that violence, looting, and such involved in rioting hinders the cause and only perpetuates the stereotype that you are fighting against . The victims own parents are calling for peace and 'doing things the right way '.Also here's a good quote that also explains what I mean too

National NAACP President Cornell William Brooks implored residents to "turn your anger into action" while condemning the violent response to Brown's death.

Lesley McSpadden, right, the mother of 18-year-old Michael Brown, watches as Brown's father, Mic …

"To sneak around under the cover of darkness, to steal, to loot, to burn down your neighborhood — this does not require courage," he said. "Courage is when you strive for justice."

"Martin Luther King did not live and die so that we may steal and lie in the middle of the night," he added.

Yes, I agree. And, thank you for understanding my post.

Very few people on here understand and are very oblivious to what is really going on. Racial discrimination still exists. People act like it does not; however, if a minority or anyone who is not originally from the the USA says something about how they are treated they are 'pulling the race card'. It don't mean to harp on my family, but my ancestors helped built this country for what it is today. My ancestors (many greats) John English was one of the founding members of the Jamestown society and a member of the House of Burgesses who rallied against the unfairness of the King. Barnabas Pope was a English General and his son was a Lewis Pope was a Revolutionary War General fighting along side his cousin who would later become the first president of the United States (George Washington). My grandmother marched with MLK from Selma to Montgomery and fought the KKK and in the Civil Rights movement. My mother is from Selma, Alabama, the heart of the Civil Rights movement.

This is not what they dreamed of.

I can't go to a store without being judged by my skin color. I can't be smart without someone claiming that I must not be black and asking," Are you part Asian?". Someone says thinks that I am loud because I am black.

Some of you don't understand. Please be empathetic at least.

I do empathize and agree with you up until it involves rioting and violence .It just isn't right period . Rallies, marches, protests, even boycotts I'm also fine with . There is a right and wrong way to fight a cause but committing crimes to fight crimes isn't right either .

Yeah, what you wrote didn't make sense to me because that's not what I was saying. "You also seemed to try and use that quote to back up rioting when that wasn't what he was advocating / saying ." "He never advocated that - he was just calling attention that there was a real and deep issue going on."

I'm condemning the use of mainstream media.

The riot was a result of individuals frustrated by the police and the current situation when they finally reaching a boiling point. The property damage can be repaired, but death is irreversible. The entire point is that the police are out of hand, and their misconduct goes unpunished. I'm glad that Mike Brown's family is encouraging everyone to abstain from violence, but honestly debating on whether or not a riot is justified or not seems so unnecessary when the real problem is all of the injustices being committed by the authorities who are supposed to be protecting the people, not hurting them.

What? You got something against large, African American women?

Hi so are you a trans?  You self identify as a woman but your profile says male?? Or you self identify as a male but your really a women?

I'm just asking for correct pronouns/ trying to check if your post was an offensive joke.

Also @ OP & people saying they're " playing the race card" I think that's really rude and you just don't understand.

The riot isn't because of the one black man that was shot and killed and unarmed. It also had to do with the dozens and dozens of similar cases like it. They are just tired of all of it, and are trying to show it.

Basically your saying that you'd follow the law no matter how unjust you'd find it?

Earlier you talked about the peaceful protesting followed by Martin Luther King's leadership.

You do know that they were breaking the law by refusing to sit at the back of the bus?? They literally fought crime by committing crimes as well.

Ok well thats what it came across as to me so thank you for clarifying .Media in general cannot be trusted completely not just mainstream . As for corrupt police and authorities I also agree. I just don't agree with committing violence to achieve my goal since the damage it does only makes things worse not better . We can agree to disagree.

Tell that to the KKK that marched in my mother's neighborhood rioting in their neighborhood and killing their brothers and sisters.

Tell that to the KKK and other organizations still rioting, gathering, and threatening the minorities and their supporters in the townhalls of Greensboro, NC; Olive Branch, MS; Kokomo, IN; and other places in the country. (I have witnesses and seen)

You can only tolerate it for so long.

This is what the media does not show you.

I'm just gonna throw out there, that the quiktrip that was burned down had absolutely no relation to the incident, and destroying it is only creating more victims.

and there was a newscast by the parents of mike brown asking for the violence to stop, and that it isnt something mike would've wanted

What I am saying is that sometimes you have to fight. It is inevitable.

You can just turn the other cheek and expect that person to stop. Some people are persistent.

This is why war happens.

You are sitting playing here pulchrum sanctum, but there is righteous anger out there too.

Don't think MLK did not throw any punches either.

Don't you think that perhaps...if people respected the authority of the police more often..stuff like this wouldn't happen?

The kid was being questioned about shoplifting, so he was obviously some hood...and he GRABBED AT THE OFFICER'S GUN!

What did the kid expect to happen?

But hey...any excuse to loot a free flatscreen eh?

well, this kind of violence is wrong. what about the man who owned that quiktrip. how's he supposed to feed his family now? I see where you're coming from. sometimes you have to fight back, but burning down a quiktrip with no relation to the incident isnt going to solve anything, it's just adding fuel to the fire

Do you know how to read ? I have acknowledged the problem I just don't  agree with committing violence and in turn creating more victims that were innocent that in the end doesn't even help you prove your point but instead only proves you wrong . You are GIVING the stereotype credence by committing violent crimes to protest your anger. In the end you prove them right by doing so .

You know what, I not even going to discuss this anymore after this to refrain from being really rude and ugly to you people.

I am not condoning what those who are taking the opportunity for this to be a looting fest. I came here with good intentions to explain why people are fed up and angry. However, we are not on the same page. You guys don't understand where I am coming from. I understand what you are saying, but I understand what they are saying too. I grew up in all white neighborhoods; I made a post about being the only black. Personally, I agree on most of what you guys are saying but also listen to the other side.

You have no problem with creating even more innocent victims to further your cause ? That's what the 'other side; is trying to say to you . That it isn't right and doesn't even give resolution but actually makes things WORSE.Also, like I said, I do empathize with you on most points up until it involves violence and more hate that makes the situation even worse

k thx bye

I am not supporting the ignorants that are out there harming other people. That is not the other side I am speaking of. I only condone violence as a last resort. If someone tries to fight me, I walk away numerous time, but if they are continuing to fight me, I may have to fight. That is what I mean with fighting.

I just cannot articulate what I mean to say and have people understand it they way I intend it. I get frustrated and shut down which what I just did. This happens every time especially on sensitive threads like these.

It's so hard refraining from saying something 'politically insensitive' for something like this. Reminds me of Los Angeles all over again, where residents find any excuse to riot. The Lakers lost the game? Riot! They won the game? Lets party by rioting! Blowout sales at the electronics store? Sounds good for a riot!

Really, it just sickens me about this. I bet they're playing the racial card too...

Do you recall the 1992 LA riots?
