June 9, 201510 yr Sonic Boom on Wii U was glitchy as hell, KSL, but Shattered Crystal was at least decent. It's honestly a smart move to continue this franchise with a 3DS-only sequel knowing that any plans of going forward with the Wii U game would just breed more mockery and possible setbacks.
June 9, 201510 yr Boom 3DS wasn't the awful one, but it's still bizarre seeing it get a sequel rather than oh I dunno Generations or Colours?
June 9, 201510 yr Boom 3DS wasn't the awful one, but it's still bizarre seeing it get a sequel rather than oh I dunno Generations or Colours? They don't need sequels because they didn't have a port that turned out to be the second coming of Sonic '06.
June 9, 201510 yr They don't need sequels because they didn't have a port that turned out to be the second coming of Sonic '06. generally you give sequels to good things, not bad
June 9, 201510 yr generally you give sequels to good things, not bad *insert lame Call of Duty joke here* The point I'm trying to make is that this sequel is being made for damage control reasons rather than just making another Sonic Boom game.
June 9, 201510 yr Why Sega, WHY?!!! WHY THIS?! Why make a sequel to the worst Sonic game?! It's stupid!

June 9, 201510 yr this isn't damage control look at the posts here people think they're making a sequel to the worst game since sonic 06 Well, that's their fault for not reading between the lines. I'm sure even Sega knows they screwed up with the Wii U version of Sonic Boom so why dig the hole deeper?
June 9, 201510 yr 3DS sequel was a smart move. (Don't know why amy wasn't playable in the first place.)

June 9, 201510 yr it's their fault, but making them understand is Sega's responsibility I didn't see this trailer advertise anything about a sequel to Sonic Boom Wii U. They specifically showed gameplay on the 3DS and the only platform that the game was advertised to be on was, again, the 3DS. It can't get much clearer than that.
June 9, 201510 yr generally you give sequels to good things, not bad To be fair, Lost World can easily be viewed as a sequel to Colors, and Generations really isn't set up for a sequel (doesn't help that a surprisingly huge amount of people didn't like Generations, even though it was the best Sonic game in quite a while).

Story wise it's a sequel, it's just weird that after people loved the Unleashed style gameplay they just decided to stop (the developer actually said he never wanted to touch the formula again since he was worried fans would get bored, which basically summarizes the problem with Sonic Team for the past 15+ years)

Yeah, LW was basically Sonic Colors without the Unleashed style of gameplay, but I do applaud them for trying to have a slightly more intense plot than Colors did...I just wish they had actually followed through on that instead of forgetting what they were doing about mid-way through. And yeah, Generations was pretty much meant to exist as a stand alone title, which is really a shame since recreating every game in glorious 3D HD with the Unleashed style of gameplay would have been the best idea ever. If anything, I still stand that it's the safest route SEGA could go if things REALLY start to go downhill. But if anything I think the main reasons that Generations wasn't received so well, despite having what I think is the best gameplay of the entire series, was mostly due to the lack of a strong story fitting for an anniversary title and the lack of additional content once you finish all of the missions and clear the story (and yeah, I guess the Final Boss could have been a bit better). doesn't matter. If you're worried about us getting bored, then let us get bored first, and THEN try to experiment when we start asking you to! Don't just throw everything you've achieved away for the sake of being "different". Be good until being good makes everyone bored, and then start experimenting to try and find the new golden ring nugget of Sonic gameplay. The problem is that they don't realize that the last 10 years of failure were all so they could reach Unleashed's style of gameplay in the first place, and now they want to go through all of that again, possibly even longer? I tend to support a lot more things that Sega or Sonic Team does than others would think I should, but it's moves like this that really make me question what the hell companies like SEGA, Konami, and Capcom are even thinking. Oh yeah, in terms of THIS game in particular, I'm actually kind of stoked for it. I still want to see how far the Boom initiative can go before anyone gives up on it, there's still room for it to improve and to be the best it can be. Edited June 9, 201510 yr by Hero of Light XIV
June 9, 201510 yr I can understand making this for 3DS, since SEGA could rush it out without gambling too much with another costly console release...but, really? The first two sold terribly with hardly any positive critical appeal (Shattered Crystal stands at laughable 47 in Metacritic). I'll take a guess and say this only exists so they can tie in something with the tv show only 3 people watch. But even then, what's the point?
June 9, 201510 yr doesn't matter. It's not the viewer's problem if they get it wrong, it's Sega's. They shouldn't have made another Sonic Boom game. The Sonic Boom brand isn't just going to disappear. We were set to get another game at some point in time, anyway. Might as well take the best direction in doing that, and in this case, it would be going forward with the game that wasn't a broken mess.

I'll take a guess and say this only exists so they can tie in something with the tv show only 3 people watch. But even then, what's the point? Actually the show has quite the viewership, it seems to be doing well with the intended audience and the numbers of adult viewers are pretty high too. Sure the games have kind of sucked so far and the toys will only reflect the quality seen in the games and shows, but the show itself is probably the second most successful part of the franchise, right after the comics of course. It's a shame that the comic line as a stand alone is discontinuing, but at least the characters and stories will continue on in the other Archie Sonic comics.
June 9, 201510 yr When I first saw this I thought it was some fake render on my tumblr. Then I found out it was real and I laughed so hard I cried. Though I am fairly interested. Shattered Crystal was okay. It's downside was the backtracking and tedious, long levels. The official Sonic the Hedgehog twitter account seem pretty confident in 'Fire & Ice' though and are replying to lots of tweets with jokes here and there. It has the same development team as Shattered Crystal so hopefully they are working to improve on it's faults for the sequel. I think it was definitely better to have a 3DS sequel than a Wii U one and I'm curious to see how this goes. It seems to be taking more from the tv show which gives me more hope. I want to see where this goes and how far they can take Sonic Boom as a whole. Just because the first 2 games were medicore at best doesn't mean this has to be the same. Or maybe I'm just too optimistic I am currently enjoying the tv show and the comics (even though the last issue is upon us.) so Sonic Boom hasn't been a complete failure in my eyes. (The name 'Fire & Ice' bugs me though. I don't know why and it really bothers me. Ughhh ) Edited June 9, 201510 yr by TheEightMelodies
