Seriously, FFIX is one THE BEST entries in the FF series. So why is it so forgotten? Final Fantasy's I-VII have all seen remakes or ports of some kind. FFVIII was ported to PC and it's main character made multiple appearances in the Kingdom Hearts series. FFX has got a sequel (and might get another soon) and been ported twice. FFXI has appeared on multiple platforms and has an enormous lifespan. FFXII has a sequel and is likely for an HD remaster soon. FFXIII is the first FF series to get a trilogy and has already been ported to PC. FFXIV has got an expansion pack and regular updates.

...

But what about that other one? What has FFIX gotten? Vivi made a VERY brief appearance in KH2 and that's about it. It made cameo appearances, but so did every other game, which leaves IX as the official most forgotten FF ever... :( I really want a PS4 remake, or AT LEAST a PC/PS4 remaster.

It is the most forgotten by Square Enix, and that's fact.

Yeah, and you want to know why? Because the only two people who can do anything about it are too busy. If it wasn't for its producer you would never have Kingdom Hearts and the director is too busy with XVI and XII HD. The work needed to get IX up to PS4 standards would take a lot of work.

FFIX was released in 2000

less than a year later, FFX came out

it had fully 3D environments, characters WITH voices. Cinemtaic cutscenes, and mind blowing CG

FFIX was met with critical acclaim, and it didn't sell TERRIBLY, but it had an awful release window

Really, you can see this with most console generations. At the end, the best stuff starts to come out, becuase they've mastered the old tech... but everyone wants to move on to the new thing

Like most things that reached acclaim, but weren't that popular, eventually FFIX will swing into the public conscious, and then you'll be sick of everyone saying its the best

im sort of glad they just left IX alone. I enjoyed it and think it's a good game as it is. A remake isn't necessary when the original game still holds up.

but

FFIX-2

we could have Garnet, Eiko, and Freya dress up in skimpy outfits and look for Zidane

It's still early in the gen. I say after XVI, he shows IX some attention in at least some form.

FFIX was shadowed by the PS2, the best selling console OF ALL TIME and still managed to sell over 5 million copies. With the right window, it could have easily sold 8 million. While I'm a huge fan of FFX, I believe IX deserves a bit more praise. Just an overall more creative game. Square needs to hurry up and show it the attention it deserves.

honestly, the right widow for FFIX to be released is right now, when everyone is asking for a return to classic FF

it never had a right window during the PS1 era, when everyone wanted to see new technology, new scenarios. Contrasting today, back then people were practically begging Square Enix to change and innovate

IX was also playable on PS2 in case you forgot and the PS2 hadn't even fully taken off yet. Square was not expecting X's amazing sales.

Doubtful, Ito's taking his sweet time with XVI.

Also, IX would have had a PC version but the PC versions of VII and VIII went so badly they didn't keep it going.

People wanted a fully voiced 3D game, so it doesn't matter if it was playable on PS2. PS2 was such a huge jump in technology that interest in PS1 was almost instantly lost. This proves that IX could have sold amazingly if it managed to make 5 million in those conditions.

Indeed, so Ito needs to hurry up.

no I mean it should have come out now. Nobody will care if it gets remade

Tell that to Nomura. Unlike Ito, Nomura's kept millions of people waiting for a decade.

Ito's trying to design the best game ever and that takes time.

You've got a fair point there, but at least Nomura doesn't forget his creations.

Completely different. The PSOne port was basic, nothing added other than horrible FMVs and are loaded with problems. The mobile ports had no involvement from original staff other than Kazuko Shibuya and her new sprites have been received very negatively.

LOL. Let me know when FFV & VI get remade.

they're not his though, you can't claim he's forgetting his creations when he barely had a hand in making them

All you need is an artist from the original game to do a remake in the vain of the PSP remakes.

And who are the other key artists?

Tetsuya Takahashi - running a certain Nintendo owned studio
Kazuko Shibuya - We've already seen her attempt.
Yoshitaka Amano - freelance/only does logos now
Hideo Minaba - freelance for XIV and likely XVI

you don't need anybody to remake a game

it's a nice formality I guess, but only the designers can actually impact how a remake or remaster turns out in a notable way

You actually do. X/X-2 HD only happened because Toriyama & Kitase approved it.

XII HD will only be happening because Ito approved it.
