So if anyone else was confused, there's your answer. Square Enix does not own Kingdom Hearts.

 

This includes all original characters & worlds including Sora.

In other words, Sora is a Disney character.

When you play kingdom hearts you instantly see who owns what. Yes, Disney owns the series. As in the name.

 

Although there are multiple aspects to it. SE actually does own rights to the characters they designed. Which is why you see less of Disney character figures and more kh original coming I of SE at least in terms of merchandise. Any promotional work based on films isn't directly from them and are concept work.
