As I was looking at a gifset on Tumblr earlier today, I noticed that the Young Xehanort's hairline is drastically different than the Young Xehanort that we know from KH3D.

 

Shortly after the release of the KH3 trailer from E3 of this year, there were also a lot of people saying it didn't make sense that the YMX in the KH3 trailer looked younger than the YMX that left the islands. 

 

I think I have a solution.

My theory is that when Xehanort took on Terra's physical form, it affected his entire timeline; thus making the YMX on the islands look like a young Terranort, much like how Sora interacting with Ventus's heart made Vanitas look like Sora. And that's why he looks so different than the YMX that we see in the KH3 trailer.

Sorry if I sound insulting when I say this as I mean no offence, but I don't see how Xehanort taking over Terra's body affects the entire timeline, especially the past. If this were the case, then shouldn't the Young Xehanort training with Young Eraqus be affected too? He probably just took a haircut. I mean we've seen this with Riku and Sora.

In my opinion, it's just his hair that's significantly different and he does look a tad younger. If anything, but not likely, it could just be another oversight with the continuity of the timeline like with Donald and Goofy not knowing what the Mysterious Tower was or that Yen Sid resided there in KH2 but was there with Mickey in BBS. Definitely don't think Xehanort taking over Terra's body had anything to do with a change in the past though.

The YX from KH3D is a Xehanort from after the Terranort merging thingy, due to the events of BBS that take place in the future, that affects him since YX holds the same heart as all the Xehanorts'. The heart can control appearances and such. Due to the creation of Terranort, Young Xehanort is TEMPORARILY affected.

 

His heart is almost reacting to the presence of his other hearts, we know Xemnas had grown a heart and Xemnas is Terra's body, which most likely holds Terra's heart or a large portion of it.

 

Think of all the Xehanort's hearts as one huge chain. If a single link in the chain is affected, the other links are also affected.

 

When YX returns to his time and forgets his experiences in the future, his hair returns to it's normal look because his heart is not affected by the hearts of other Norts since they aren't around there (Except Ansem SOD but he's not really close enough)

Young Xehanort was long before Terra. There is no connection between the two of them and their appearances or his appearances throughout time. Master Xehanort made Terra his vessel. It had no impact on the appearances of his own selves. YX looked that way when he encountered Ansem SoD through time travel shown in KH3D.

His hairline is receding because of male-pattern baldness. Boom.

Young Xehanort show Sora a flashback of how he first met Ansem SoD in the brown hooded robe and how he gain the power of time travel. You said that the Young Xehanort in DDD was the Xehanort after merging with Terra but is not.

Terra has always looked the way he did and MX taking him over altered his looks. What happens with Terra does not affect YX look wise. It is that way just in general. YX is MX before he left and it is truly him. He has not had any looks altered. Maybe a haircut, but no more than that. What he looked like in certain places of time was what he looked like.

Must be to do with the engine and that hair changes. Nothing wrong with your thoery other than the timeline part, otherwise not too bad.

Just because something isn't 'stated' in KH, it doesn't mean it's not there. Are you just going to ignore the fact that Xemnas spoke to Aqua's armour, showed familiarity with Roxas, tried to find Ventus armour in CO and say they are 'coincidences' or disregard them? If so, then wow.

 

THE YOUNG XEHANORT from the cutscene in the beginning of BBS HAS NOT TIME travelled yet but has been given the powers. We see them standing in the exact same spots when approached by Ansem SOD, and when saying 'this world is just too small'. The quote implies him wanting to explore other places and do other things, such as using the powers he was given. 

 

Also, just because Xehanort doesn't notice Ansem SOD doesn't mean his heart didn't. Hearts can sense things that the mind cannot.

 

Isa by coincidence has the same hairstyle as Terra. That's it. The reason Young Xehanort has been affected is because the other norts are different versions of him. Isa is not a different version of Xemnas or Ansem SOD, he's just a guy with a portion of Xehanort's heart in him.

 

Young Xehanort doesn't HAVE TO BE RIGHT NEXT to someone for their heart to affect his, a heart can merely be in the presence of another and sense it. Hearts are extremely sentient.

 

And in DDD it was stated by YX himself he will eventually return to his own time and forget all his time travel experiences, therefore if he stated that after he came back, it would've implied he'd remembered things. Which would mean he knows what was going to happen in the future and potentially try to change things, which would go against the laws of KH and the universe. Thus, no one should be able to remember their experiences of time travel.

 

 

When YX returns to his own time, his hair goes back to the hairstyle in the KH3 trailer, because there are no norts around him anymore.

 

Oh and you said 'Even after YX went back to the past his hair was the same as DDD'

which I believe to be false because of my counter argument as stated above.

 

 

I refuse to believe the answer to this question is something as insignificant as 'oh he got a haircut'. It's KH for crying out loud, there's obviously far more going on that people refuse to recognise.

 

In the end, it all depends on whether the opening cutscene of BBS was before Ansem arrived, or afterwards.

If it was before, then you've won, but if it was afterwards, then my theory has the edge.

I stand firmly in my beliefs but we'll find out in KH3  

 

I just think 'a haircut' is much too simplistic of an explanation. I also think showing YMX looking like that in the KH3 trailer is to signify that he's related to Riku in some form (he's originally from Destiny Islands so it's not too far fetched of an idea) and also why they flash an image of Xehanort over young Riku & then he becomes the teen Riku that we know from KH2 in Birth by Sleep. 

 

Overall I really want the mainland of Destiny Islands to be playable specifically for the purpose of finding out more about Xehanort's background. I guess that's sort of off subject but it's still a theory about YMX =P
